Riots by the end of the summer ! It'd take a lot more than a government to get the British off their fat arses and into the streets.... Face it, as sad as it is there's more likely to be a riot because of the fucking football. Camereon does not like football...

I think this is a great combo, some people are stereotyping too much and being excessively sceptical on a good vibe.

George Osborne as chancellor... let's see how that pans out.
Badly, I suspect. The man has all the financial nous of a turnip.
Still, we'll see how it goes. If it goes pear-shaped the Lib Dems will get smashed at the next election. A lot of their grass roots members are pretty hacked off about this by all accounts.

I have voted lib dem since I was old enough to vote, and I'm not hacked off about it. We've gone from being the third party to being in a coalition government; it's the most power we've ever had and we have at least a chance to implement some policies, and if not policies then at least ideology. People need to have some faith and stop fucking moaning and being pessimistic, on Facebook people are already moaning and bitching about things that haven't even happened yet. I tell you what, it's a tough job for anyone to run a country that's packed with so many whiny people.

Exactly, Lib Dems clearly came 3rd in the results but have their leader as deputy prime minister!! 5 people in the cabinet!! They are still a small party and many constituencies didnt even have a LibDem MP to vote for, the concs in theory cudve said fuck off and grabbed power like Labour did when they were a minority winner for Blair, but they have bent over backwards a bit to make it work so yeah moaning should stop haha.

There's always going to be problems with a purely left or right wing government. If the right help the rich too much then they ultimately give away power and control to the highest bidders (ie Merdoch, big businesses etc) while the poorest, most vulnerable people suffer because they no longer become a priority of the state as they are not feeding it with their taxes. If the left tax the rich too much, then you get a brain drain, offshore accounts, homes in switzerland etc, where the people with the most money do everything in their power to keep it and our most skilled workers move away to other countries, the government then get in debt by helping the poor while loosing taxes from the rich. It's a fine balance.
Well put. In my mind, the lib dems should at least be somewhere in the middle, hence good for balance. But maybe they are considered more left than middle? We have many parties in Sweden but we lack a proper lib dem party - our "liberals" Folkpartiet taste more of "new liberals" and is soon more right-wing than the Moderats...

I am so glad i fucked off voting for the Lib Dems (for their voting reforms) and went with my core beliefs (Labour), its a shame New Labour haven't really held up all the principles they have stood for in the past whilst in government, but i think it will be good to be out of government and have the chance to refocus on all the issues that have tainted the 13 years in government. Devils advocate would say the Lib Dems have revealed themselves as just middle class socially liberal tories who don't want to vote for complete c*nts. The sort of tories who don't want to burn the poor and wan't to have their green initiatives, alongside shopping organically at Waitrose. It is no surprise the sort of areas they do well in, especially in Bristol. That said I hope this government proves me wrong. Although with George Osborne handling the economy , people might be wishing Gordon Brown was still chancellor (he didnt actually do a bad job.).

Don't tar the liberals with the Tory brush. New liberalism tends to straddle socialist ideology for matters of welfare and social policy, progressive liberal attitudes to Europe/globalisation and conservative ideology with respect to local governments and the devolution of power. They're more cherry pickers than tories-in-disguise. And at that they cherry pick policies which seem to resound strongly with common sense.
Also, Vince Cable in charge of banks == perhaps the best thing thats ever happened in any cabinet since I had sex inside a wardrobe.

Devils advocate would say Labour chose to walk away from trying to form a government when the country needed them most because they had vastly over committed spending based on unsustainable growth figures. Forcing the liberals to talk with the Tories.

That could well be true (i dont believe it really), we will however never know what they were thinking regards not forming the government, i think it was more to do with it being seen illegitimate. Whatever, labour have made the right move though i think. Especially as this government is destined to be hated regardless of how well they do, purely because of the cuts they will have to make.

yes, we'll see. So far I think the Lib Dem voters (at least the generally fairly left wing, nice ones that I've encountered) have been utterly betrayed by their party. If i'd voted for them I would be absolutely livid. Clegg and Cable spent a lot of the campaign (with Labour) warning the Tories about the dangers of immediate cuts after the election and then Cameron announces straight after the election that the need for these cuts is something that the coalition is in complete agreement on. The rise in the base rate of income tax has been labelled an "aspiration" by the coalition, so that will almost certainly never happen. PR is a long forgotten dream. Theresa May, who has voted consistantly against gay rights, is the new Equality Minister. We're getting 100 new peers in the House of Lords. Remind me what's so good about this whole thing again please.

Well the coalition is overwhelmingly Tory, by seats and votes. The liberal voters have been betrayed on all but a few pledges, true. But the opposite would've meant a larger proportion of the voters being betrayed on the Tory policy they voted for.... Its the best of a bad situation, particularly since giving the devolution parties leverage in a majority coalition would've seriously damaged the union we live in, and caused untold financial damage in all three countries in the name of untimely application of academic ideology. Also, it comes as no surprise that socialist-influenced pledges were killed in favour of economic conservatism. New Labour did it with the abolition of the 10k rate. Its almost a likelihood. I would've preferred a minority Tory government, in principle. But at least this way we've got Gideon and Dave on a stronger leash.
