$crampy/ Pete I think you're right there mate.  It's been going around the office all day today, the higher uppers who work here kinda know everything about the developments in and around st paul's and although I still can't believe it myself, Lakota's being/ been sold and is going to be turned into shops and flats - probably part of the regen project.  I'm still taking it as credible gossip but still...

FUCK.

I know this is some kind of repost and I did say I'd get back to ya $cramps so my bad for taking long.

I shall be officialy devestated if this is true, Lakota = best club in Bristol. Bristol has lost so many clubs over the last few years , they'll be nowhere left soon. Sad

Nooooo!! This is not good news. Lakota is definately one of the best venues in Bristol and the only decent venue of it's size.

It used to have sound bouncers.

Last few times I've been to Lakota it has been great.
It'll be sad to see such a long standing fixture of the Brizzle club circuit turned into souless laminated floored new build flats and shops.  Sad

No idea what the timescale is - does anyone on here know?

And I only started going back there this year (First was Gener8r in April) after a 6/7 year hiatus. A damn shame.

Well, we still have the Black Swan and the Trinity.  Where exactly are the Gener8r's going to be held once it's finally shut its doors??

we will all go back to illegal raves & there will be so many so often that the police will have to do something to make it partialy legal or something, its just started happening in plymouth, everyone's pulling together & putting on many raves/parties everywhere round town & becuase there are so many the police can't really do anything

Yeah i heard this a while ago. its sucks big time. Have had some great nights there this year, its just a shame cos just as Stokes Croft seems to be picking up after 3 or 4 years of ghost town club land, Lakota gets sold.

Missed Gener8 last weekend but really looking forward to our night there on the 24th. It may be our 1st and only venture in Lakota Sad

We (Tribe of Frog) have dates booked at the Lakota through into Summer 2007 and beyond..   and have been promised at least 6 months notice when the time comes.

...the trouble with Black Swan is that it is only licensed for 350...     Lakota is licensed for 1196.

you know that's not a crazy-as idea as it sounds!

@ TOF - maybe that means Lakota will still be open for at least another year before it finally shuts down. Fingers crossed...

That's good then, so no need to start crying yet and by the time it shuts down I'd like to think my rave shoes will be put to rest for good anyway. Will be 24/25 by that time  Slayer

Yeh, fingers crossed on that...      but what I like about the Lakota is all the different rooms it has. Its nice to have a venue where you have lots of scope for creating different environments and you have a bit of fun exploring it all.

The same dates that we have been doing for the last 6 years..  All of which you can find out without that much effort by looking on our website  http://www.tribeoffrog.com.

For your benefit...  we do the last Saturday of the following months ...February, March, April, September, October, November..     then we either do NYE or the last Saturday in January.

However I don't quite understand why you would be concerned with clashing, as your music policy and style of event is nothing like Tribe of Frog.

If 5000 clubbers stuck up half a month's wages that'd be enough even if they were all on 12k a year. Its not that unrealistic.  Undecided

If everyone chips in for an 'executive' flat when it's been developed the shoddy new build workmanship will mean the partition walls can be easily knocked in to recreate the space...

I have a feeling it will only be sold when it becomes economically viable to do so and when profits can be maximised for the site which means the owners will hold out until merchants quarter (or whatever the fuck it's called) and the rest of Stokes Croft has been redeveloped.  (some hope!)

It's easy to forget that lakota was (is) one of the pioneers of the indoor dance club scene it's been going since 90/91 (albeit with a hiatus in the mid/late 90s) and for me has a better atmosphere now than it did back in the day.

There are VERY few venues left from that era and I have fond memories of DJing there in the early 90s and fonder memories of clubbing there now at various nights covering a variety of genres.

I can't imagine any other venue in Bristol being able to host the kind of parties that Lakota does and will sorely miss it if/when it goes.

Losing the Depot was a big blow to the independent club scene, losing Lakota would be an even bigger one.

It's going to be turned into flats as of next Year.  I work for the company involved with it's purchase and I know the guy who runs it - who has also confirmed that it's a more or less a done deal.

it'll be a shame, But to be honest i'm not majorly dissapointed. It's a reliable club but not my favourite my any means, as long as the regular nights find somewhere not to far away to go i'll be happy.
Wouldn't want to live where lakota used to be though, it'd be wierd..

I think it's quite sad.  Mostly for nostalgic reasons.  I remember going to One Love quite regularly when it first opened and had a many a legendary night, particularly watching Sasha play there in 92.  I also made my TV début when BPM was filmed there.  Stokes Croft is now going to be Gentrified.  There's no doubt about it.  The sad thing is that in their drive for a quick buck the developers may well destroy the very thing that gives the area it's unique appeal, the people.  Who's going to want to visit the area when it's nothing but bland exec flats and poncy wine bars?

 LIGHTAH!

Blimey.  Sad

Yuck.

The club released a press release last week saying they would be open for the whole of 2007, so hopefully that's 12 months grace at least. The closure is pretty inevitable, to be honest - the building is a fucking state (as anyone who's seen inside in daylight will know) and looks like it's not a million miles away from coming down by itself.

Hopefully Clockwork is going to be as good as everyone hopes as we're going to be completedly fucked for big venues otherwise.

 Sad

Zammo surely your life experience would have told you this was always going to happen? The process has been mirrored all over the first world...it seemed obvious.

The same convo hit DSI last week - someone from lakota commented and said that it is purelty closing down in January to make repairs etc to the club - probably health and saftey shit, and will be reopening in Feb...

So apparently have no fear...  Roll Eyes
