Morning lovely Hijack peeps. Today marks the 3rd anniversary of the passing of one of Hijack's members, Neil Kymatik. Now a lot of you n00bs won't know him or remember him (if so BTW I urge you to hunt out the thread containing links to all his mixes, quite the legacy, I assure you). For those who do remember him, I'm sure you have really fond memories and stories to tell! Me and Sarah Cole (Foo-Fon Fire on here) are actually running a 10K at the end of May in Neil's honour. We are running for CRY, a charity I have banged on enough about on here. In case you don't know CRY help families of those lost to Sudden Adult Death Syndrome and undetected Cardiac conditions. In addition to that they offer free screenings to the under 35s who might be at risk from Cardiac problems, fund research into Cardiac risk in the young and offer additional post mortum services for families who are worried about genetic risk. Anyway not being the most athletic of girls we are training hard and so your support is appreciated (and a big thank you to those 'Jackers who have donated already ) but any donation, no matter how small would be appreciated for this amazing cause, even if it's just the price of a pint you would no doubt to love to buy him. Link is here: http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fundraiser-web/fundraiser/showFundraiserProfilePage.action?userUrl=SarahColesyHave a lovely Bank Holiday Monday xxxx

As someone who's just been diagnosed with a 'severe leaking valve' and will undoubtedly be undergoing heart surgery this year, I'd be more than happy to chuck some money your way. You're braver than me for running 10k!

You're braver than me for running 10k! Fucking hell man I hope you're ok? Its one rare condition after another with you inart. Yeah - I'm very speshul. Haven't announced it cos I'm still waiting for the details, but back in January I had some x-rays (tube down the throat - really quite horrible) which confirmed that a) I have a small hole in the heart (that's not uncommon) and b) I have a leaking valve. I've known about this for a while, but it's now classed as severe. Annoyingly, I was glibly told this by the nurse at my bedside and I have heard very little since. This was in mid-January. Being in the dark about it all has been the worst thing. Anyhoo - operation is more than likely, but whether it's key-hole or open-chest I have no idea. I know they're "talking about me" which is a good sign, so things are starting to move. In many ways, this should be a lot easier and more routine than my previous surgery (removing a tumor from under the brain can't be THAT easy I would imagine ) and - yes Pip - it's more than likely that the excessive release of growth hormones have caused the muscle and valves to grow. Sorry. Didn't mean to hijack this. But it goes to show how important awareness is.

Sorry. Didn't mean to hijack this. But it goes to show how important awareness is. Absolutely. Crazy they haven't told you more details. I'm no doctor (no shit) but saw a documentary about fixing leaky heart valves, and they got something called a butterfly valve, and they went in through a tiny incision in the patient's groin, up an artery and then attached the butterfly valve (so-called because it sort of has 'wings' that come out to block the hole). No open-heart surgery required. All very clever stuff.

Ah interesting to know. I have not been told ANYTHING. I would rather they had said "we'll let you know". Being told "you're probably going to have to have heart surgery" with no follow up info is - in my opinions - really bad practice. When I finally get my consultation, I'll be lodging an official complaint. After all the other shit I've been through, it's sent my family into mini-turmoil and given my mum endless sleepless nights. Whilst it's routine for them, it's life-changing for us. But I digress. £20 donated.

My old man had a heart operation on one of his valves and they went through his groin... it wasnt leaky, tho, it was something to do with an irregular heartbeat? He's all fixed now, and his heart was pretty worrying at times. #justsaying @Pip, as soon as I get some $$$ come my way I'll contribute

If I can do it in under an hour I will be absolutely delighted, however if the weather stays hot it might slow me down a bit, I've only trained in the cold.

Surprisingly! It’s like you understand my mind! You seem to know a lot about this, like you wrote the book in it or something. I think that you could do with some images to drive the message home a bit, but other than that, this is wonderful forum. A good read. I’ll certainly be back.
