yeh get this, theres many big poster spots & every single god damn day i have 2 go down there & stick my poster back up (over the one thats covered mine) its a different nights, mostly all the big ones that u see everywhere DUVET VOUS is one of the many monkey knife fight is another. every day i have to drag myself all the way down to st wourborgs, montpellier, st pauls & stokes croft & its starting 2 do my head in, i've got other parts of bristol 2 cover rather than wasting my time & money postering the same spots again & again.

im gonna one day catch this person in the act & have a right go, those a0 posters cost £1 per poster & to get 20 a day is stupid

I think I've had enough to be honest.

I understand he's been around for many years, and I've not..but I still dont get it...why the fuck is he allowed to cover up other people's posters with his?Huh?
Because he's getting paid for it? or because I dont pay him to put up mine?? (£1 a poster Huh Doh! Doh! Doh!)

I put up some A0 and A1 last night on top of OUT OF DATE posters round Montpelier...and they were all gone and/or covered up by his this morning.

Mate, those sites with all the big A1 and A0 posters are run by "somebody".
If you stick your posters up there without paying for it then they will always paste over them again, not out of malice to you, but because somebody else has paid for that spot... (therefore, it is also worth noting that it aint necessarily the responsibility of whoever's poster is over yours the next day, as the placement of posters is decided by the people who maintain the poster sites, and not the individual promoters).   Doh!

ull love the stuff i have just bought from E-Bay then, i used to use it in plymouth & it works very very well. basicly its like super-glue mixed with sticky gell that dryed transparent & theres no way of removing it, what you do is stick ur poster up, wait an hour or so, come back & paste it over your poster, no-one  will be sticking over your poster for quite some time. the only stuff that can stick onto it is itself, so u can go back & re-stick a more up2 date poster over the top of ur old 1, its rockin stuff, it is £50 for a tub of it but its worth it, u cant even sprey on it, its totaly anti-vandle, anti-weather & anti-stick

BAJA are a different problem. they're a big machine with a lot of money spent on advertising, paying outside people to put their posters up.

Here I'm talking about independent promoters like us (I think) who also post on this forum.
I would expect a bit more of respect and some sort of sense of community.

CALM THE FUCK DOWN! dude, jesus!, could have been anyone, there is someone going round bristol putting posters up 4 other promoters & people that havnt been in bristol long who are promoting dont know what's going on with it all like me.who do u pay to put your posters up 4 u? infact who does everyone pay to put up posters for them, its not just your night n duvet vous, its all of the more established nights, bashout, blackout, dub from atlantis, tribe of frog! & the list goes on & on & on & on, if i was paying someone to stick posters up 4 me & i found out he was stickin them up over other peoples posters then i'd stop paying him & do it myself or get someone else 2 do it.

there alll good nights including yours, just need to sort this postering thing out bcus its gettin really silly now, i mean im spending £20 a day on posters & not even gettin the other side of bristol done, it wasnt this bad a few months ago, it has gotten worse, not just for me but for all more underground promoters

yes indeed scrampo welcome to Bristol...

I personally think that the idea nowdays of putting posters up everywhere to promote a night is a little outdated..
If you think about how much money a promoters spends on posters and then the working time actually putting them up or paying Bear, its a total waste of money...
Heads all know what clubnight they will be going to without the use of posters.. (word of mouth is the best publicity)

if you feel the need to poster the night....
There are many newsagents and record shops, cafes etc that will display a poster for the length of the promotion... so you cant moan !!!
thus keeping shit tips like stokes croft a little bit tidier etc etc...

Promoters have argued about postering for years... its not gonna change...

my rant over... now all f@@k off.... Cheesy

yes - whether you like it or not he runs the big postering and is in contact with the council so its the best way to get them up.

your glue stuff sounds greedy, childish and un-enviromentally friendly and will possibly get your legs broken in the end.

Its all a joke, especially the little fuck wits he keeps taking mine down before the event is over in cafe, newsagents, takeaways.... my night mostly is completely diffrent to others but because the space aint there some cunt takes it down to put theres up. And yeah just like everyone else i pay for the posters outa my own pocket, and hope to regain the funds from door entry on the night. A0's and A1's i give to some geezer who puts most others up, A, fuck it why should i get caught doing it, B its more convienient, and C he knows whats out a date and whats not so leave it to the man that can.

But redoing stokes croft to Horfield because some little wanker has no shame in pulling other people posters down before the events happened will get a slap if caught, cause theres no need for it, is there. either spend more time looking at the ones that are there, that are out of date, or if theres no room fuck off and find somewhere else to put it!!!

Sorry to offend any1, rant over........

Personally I'm really starting to doubt the value of street posting any more, the posters stay up all of about 10 mins and my co-promoter got gripped by the fuzz (sounds painful...  Bad Teeth) last night doing it... Think we may stick to the strictly 'legal' sites, ie shops and that, just not worth the hassle.

I have had one or two occasions where people have covered over my posters (mostly round UWE where I work so that is very silly...) but I have had words with the relevant promoter and it has all been sorted! It's mostly just people who are being paid to do it that do this kind of thing, I think all the actual promoters know the score and who wants to get into stupid poster wars?

Pete Kraymon wins 'most sensible post' award. This is another debate that goes round and round (and round and round...) every year at the busy times (return of the students, xmas/nye) so I can't be arsed to say much, but:

S's sites are tolerated and so are the closest thing we have to the legal flyposting areas everyone's always banging on about.

Almost everyone uses him (if you don't know which are his sites, ask around. It won't take you long).

If we all used him, perhaps the lack of flyposters in other more aggravating (for the council) areas might mean a change in their current heavy-handed approach. Who knows?

Plus he's out every day and his posters stay up (the two things aren't unconnected). Much better value for money than doing it yourself.

Agreed. We used S for Tricky Disco on a number of occasions and he always does a good job/it made life easier for myself and Nick. Postering is a pain in the arse, so you might as well pay someone who's in cahoots with the council so it gets done and your arse doesn't get roasted over an open fire.

Aboulutley agree S is the man when it comes to it, hes fair and square and even asks you what area you wanna target!, on and of used him for the last 7 years. and the prices aint bad at the end of the day give him 30 posters 15 days before job done sorted.

thus keeping shit tips like stokes croft a little bit tidier etc etc...

Promoters have argued about postering for years... its not gonna change...

my rant over... now all f@@k off.... Cheesy

Hav 2 agree to a large extent here Cridgesy, even in London postering is more of a way to keep old derelict buildings stuck together than to advertise anything to anyone... to similar degree, flyers have dropped in their impact rates.  Word of mouth is always good and a supportive word from a group of happy clubbers will probably go much further than a poster or flyer.  On the comment made  :twothumbs :up there ^^ about people "owning" posting sites, let me tell you catagorically and for the record "No-One Owns Any Independent Postering Sites In Bristol." These are the words of the Council, not me, heard with my own ears from a council rep... here's the deal in Brizzle as was last discussed : -
In Bristol, any form of postering outside of the properly regulated advertising boards is considered as illegal fly-posting, there are certain allowances made for people using "non-permanent" fixatives but (and this is the important bit) In the coming year, the council is considering a trial run of dedicated promotional boards solely for the independent music/arts promoters in Bristol - These boards are proposed to be installed between the Horfield end of Gloucester Rd. & Stoke's Croft - and promoter's found defacing any of the sites along this route (especially with permanent fixatives) are running a massive risk of being noted and refused permission to use the new advertising sites when they become active.

This was a statement, as i said, from a Bristol City Council representative for the BMF and he seemed pretty adamant that once the scheme goes into piloting, any posters found outside of the specified spots will incurr serious penalties.  So to re-iterate, no-one in Brizzle owns jack so if there's someone out there monopolising space - either deal with them personally or do the easy thing and poster elsewhere until the council boards appear (if they ever do.. oh yeah, and of course avoid Gloucester Rd!)  I did raise a few points over this at the time as i can see already that there's gonna be some really tight competition over space.  I mean, look at this thread for a start - There's so much space in Bristol to poster without covering anyone else's but still we have these problems, I fail to see how offering a very small number of sanctioned spaces is going to make things any easier.  Same number of nights/posters - less number of spaces - people getting ridiculously huge posters vs. other ppls more sensible A3s and A2s therefore leaving less space for everyone else... i think you can see where this is goin.

Like i started with, it's kinda academic these days anyway.  It's very rare that a clubber today sees a poster and thinks "Yeah! I'm Goin There Tonight!!" now it's really more about word of mouth and getting media based advertising - such as a listing on Kiss (they've been pretty good at this recently) 1-Xtra, Radio 1, Venue, OOH and other mags.  Web-based advertising and a mobile mailing list are also more effective ways of advertising in this age.

Anyhoo, plenty to chew on there.

I disagree. I'm definitely a 'head', and I do of course find out about a lot of the nites I go to via word of mouth etc...BUT, I definitely still check posters all the time, esp the larger ones and also posters in shop windows (particularly on Park St).

yeh get this, theres many big poster spots & every single god damn day i have 2 go down there & stick my poster back up (over the one thats covered mine) its a different nights, mostly all the big ones that u see everywhere DUVET VOUS is one of the many monkey knife fight is another. every day i have to drag myself all the way down to st wourborgs, montpellier, st pauls & stokes croft & its starting 2 do my head in, i've got other parts of bristol 2 cover rather than wasting my time & money postering the same spots again & again.

im gonna one day catch this person in the act & have a right go, those a0 posters cost £1 per poster & to get 20 a day is stupid

rant over

FUCK OFF SCRAMPY!!!! we never did that! you're confusing the fact that we PAY to have big flyposters put up, like many promoters! he will post over yours if you put them on top.
DONT EVEN TRY TO ACCUSE US

CALM THE FUCK DOWN!

how can you accuse someone of putting their posters over yours in one breath, then tell them to calm down in the next? You're a prat scrampy, and your suggestion of using bombproof paste is fucking stupid as well - how to really really piss off the council in one easy step and make them even less tolerant of postering than they already are. Pillock.

caught in the act a minute ago: DUVET VOUS covering our poster on a phonebox.  I'M SO ANGRY! I'M SO ANGRY! I'M SO ANGRY!  Tut Tut

if there is a poster that is NOT out of date, LEAVE IT. simple
there is enough space in the whole city. sort it out.

wow, that re-opened the age old debate eh?

appollologgies for the poster cover clu / anyone else who wants to vent spleen, and yes its the age old case of got some one else to do it for us, thought he knew the rules of the game though ? ?  bugger

congrates to the council for this 'we'r happy with posters here' pilot scheme if it gets off the ground and works. There are plenty of shops that'll put up posters alot charge per weeks though?(which is far enought)  to play devils advocate, a night can put up a poster in a shop for £2 for 2 weeks or buy some paste / blu tack and get 400 up (we do put up in shop but to keep cost down onlt free ones)
until a realistic alternative provides its self i know which i'd do

there does seem to be duvet vous posters fuckin everywhere, so respect for that hard work, although i still dont have a fuckin clue what music you play at your nights  Bad Teeth

On a side note, somone appears to be rippin down the small number of posters we actually have on the glos road/cromwell road areas, since i go to catch the bus every morning and put some up, but find them ripped down more often than not and before anyone says the council, the council remove the posters completly they dont tear it in half and leave most of it stuck to the wall/bus stop etc... So somones obviously doing that or its just pissed students, either way its fuckin annoying.

internet/mobile etc promotion is the way though i reckon.

I still don't get how someone can "own" an illegal flypostering site, just because they get paid for it doesn't mean they own sites or have more rights over it than others. I'd hazard a guess that there have been ppl postering longer than him as well. hmmmmmmmm If he had legal sites set up in his name that he officially owns then that's a different matter but i'd bet a fair bit of cash that itsn't the case.

Personally I'd love to meet this postering man of bristol to have a proper conversation about whether he has a right to these sites just because he seems to poster first (there are several sites i know he uses that he was not the first to use)

Also anyone who's postering over in date posters is a twat whether being paid for it or not. It's only going to create a backlash and I understand why!

i wish we could, but we don't pay them, we've just got a team of dedicated umpaDuvetlumpas who do loads for us. i do do some postering but within the club night good flyposting code of practice. thought about getting matey who put up the biguns on the case but not sure if he'd do a3's (the cheap printing option) an i think little and oftern has a better effect / coverage.personally when i see 10 - 20 a1 or a0's up all together i don't pay them much attention.

i fully agree dude, been doing this on and off for 7/8 yrs we've had our posters rinsed a few times and its really shit / disheartening / expensive / time wasting, at least theres hijack now to so its not quite as faceless as it used to be.f.

I dunno if it's just a ridiculous coincidence, but I'm really begining to think that some CUNT(S) has been ripping alot of the MKF posters for this Modeselektor gig. Most of the posters I've seen of ours that have been ripped down  it's normally the date that has been attacked. The thing that made me think it was malicious was the only posters that have been attacked were ours in a huge line by Bath Buildings and at the end of Picton Street, none of the other posters had a blemish on them!

Now this maybe a crazy coincidence but I've never experienced it before while promoting to this level.

@Scrampy... we've had this debate before haven't we? fuck sake, take note init!!!

Nobody "owns" the spot, the poster guy uses thoses spots to help the promoters, he probably has to recollection of what posters he's putting up, he'll just assume that he put the previous poster/s up and go over it when the date has expired. We pay him to do it for us because he knows where all these spots are in the city because we can't be fucked to find them, it's just easier this way.

I cud name and shame a few people ive witnessed taking down a various range of material to replace with their own..
but
..i just think its a bit sad, even with Hijack which is supposed to support all promoters Together.
- people still feel that they deserve to be better promoted than others by being ruthless, it doesnt actually help!

Birmingham nearly lost its music scene because promoters decided it was a type of war rather than a party and in the end the music suffered.

Stand out because your better, not cos u broke every1 elses legs.
