Not to my ears, but then it's all personal taste. I think it's probably a case that I've heard many more MCs who came before him that I think were much better and he's brought nothing new in subject matter or flow.

Songs like Jesus Walks and Through the Wire for instance are things that, as far as I know, have never really been touched upon, particularly in terms of mainstream hip hop... no one ever bigged up their (albeit short) college educations... I could go on.

IMO, it's not about better, it's about coming along at a specific time and being refreshing and unashamed of what you are... which, to me, is dope!

I thought the cliche he's talking about pretty much died in the 90s. So to say it's a cliche is stating the obvious, only he's more than ten years late, and yet by saying that he still thinks he's breaking new ground.
