Did black people really carry around giant stereos and play them at full volume? It seems conceivable but I find it hard to believe as I've never seen it.

The 80's were all about moustaches, cheap cologne, those tracksuits in pastel colors and geometric shapes, golf, convertibles, moustaches, sunglasses, suits, women in bikinis, mobile phones, music with keyboards and vocals with echo, moustaches, hairstyles like A Flock Of Seagulls, and moustaches.

I find it hard to believe that the kids today are content with playing shitty mp3s through tinny mobile phone speakers. Bunch of lightweight cunts.

During the 80's those of us that listened to sound system through the 70's couldn't believe that people played music in the street on tinny little boomboxes ..especially with drum machine and keyboard rhythms....
80's was a bad time for music

I mainly lived in Long Ashton in the 80s, where ghettoblasters (and come to think of it, black guys) were few and far between. My stack stereo system was a behemoth though, and had a pillarbox red sony walkman that looked like a brick. Bigger was definitely better in the 80s.

Line in is extremely common on the good ones. I've picked up two from Repsycho in the last couple of years. I got a brilliant one by National Panasonic with Line in and out and it only needs 8 DD batteries to make it work!

About sums the 80's up! A BLEAK decade brightened up by a great couple of Northern Soul nights circa 84, Tony Clark at The Mayfair Rooms and John Stapletons night at The Western Soul Domino Club, anyone as old as me and remember them ? !!!

I wasn't here in the 80's but i imagine those nights were an oasis for music lovers...i never went out during that decade..save for the first year or so..i saw Dobie Gray in about 81 and Ann Peebles with Otis Clay

I used to rock one... although it should be noted that my parents wouldn't buy me a proper one so I just had a tiny bright red Panasonic one that I used to swagger round Horfield with... I was a badass 9 year old... Salt N Pepa, MC Hammer, Vanilla Ice. TLC... yeah man... Vanilla Ice - had the album on cassette

I got horribly sad the other day when I found bags of tapes that I had made myself in the 80s and early 90s; mixes I had made off the radio; 5 wanted to have a listen but realised I had nothing to play them on

All those dismissing the 80s as crap are wrong, yo. It wasn't all about and Spandau Ballet and espadrilles. I love so much music (and art/films) from that time. And boom boxes too.
