with this That is what State of Virginia wants to do to women in Virginia! Basically new law proposed that would require pregnant women, who want to have an abortion, to have Trans-vaginal ultrasound of the fetus prior abortion! People who are against this, call it State sponsored Rape!

What you mean my missus was "raped" when they checked her for ovarian cancer using an internal ultrasound last week?
Get the fuck out.

The key word is 'required'. Having any procedure against someone's will. Rape is a violation without consent. A woman does not consent to someone probing her, but will be denied a treatment she wants without it. There is no medical reason for the violation (why must she listen to the heartbeat of a foetus that is going to be aborted). There is every chance she may have already been a victim of abuse or rape, therefore this is going to be adding to her trauma. I'm pretty sure your girlfriend gave her consent fully for an ovarian scan, so of course it wasn't surgical rape. But a girl being required to have a state sanctioned probe put into her Vagina for NO MEDICAL PURPOSE, yes I would call that surgical rape.

Yes I possibly over-reacted there. But matey did appear to present the probe as if it had been invented for the sole purpose of scaring women away from abortion. I'm sure even under consent its a humiliating enough experience that nobody needs anyone going around denormalising it on the internet.

One of my heroes from history is a woman called Josephine Butler, she campaigned against what she coined "surgical rape", and had the Contagious Diseases Act repealed in the 19th Century (basically the police could haul any woman in off the street on suspicion of prostitution and forcibly examine them for signs of STDs). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Josephine_ButlerControl over women's bodies has become alarmingly central to right-wing politics in America, it is a worrying notion. Where hopefully it will be almost impossible to actually make abortion illegal in America (or safe, medically supervised abortion anyway), little tricks like this are a worrying step towards control, and could still send vulnerable women away from the correct medical treatment to alternative treatment that will do them harm. Hopefully this will get stopped before it starts. BTW Sodapop, have you actually got a link to information about this please?

Maybe it wouldn't be so traumatic if they added a 5-speed 'vibrate' function?

In all fairness he did mention the american state that wants to carry this out. State rape.

Are you for fucking real? are you? Yes. This isn't a joking matter. This isn't just about the procedure, as people are pointing out, trans vaginal ultrasounds are carried consensually for many medical purposes. I doubt it's comfortable or a nice experience, but I imagine few are traumatized by it. This issue of trauma comes from it being unnecessary, intimate medical procedure is being carried out, as a condition of treatment, to women who may already be in a vulnerable position. They are only doing it to emotionally blackmail women and to fuel the anti-abortion argument, it is not to help the woman in any way and could actually damage her further, not to mention infringing on human rights.

I just chalk it up to yet another abuse of human (not gender) rights perpetrated by the americans. aside from that the OP is a photo of a pokey thing that goes up ones woopsie.

Shouldn't we really spend our time getting annoyed about the shit things our government is doing? Our folks in charge must be doing a pretty damn fine job if we've got all this time spare to take up the hand of protest on behalf of all these other nationalities.

A Judge stopped a bill from being passed in Texas forcing pregnant women going for abortion to listen to the heartbeat of their foetus beforehand. Did I mention the church?
