may have seen my message enquiring bout decent D&B nites in Bristol...I lived in Bristol from 90-99 Being 23 that means that i have had my fair share of Bristol D&B, my first club nite was 2 see [the late] Kemistry and Storm at the Blue mountain in 95. I used to go to nites like Ruff neckting and joy. The venues used to be Trinity and easton community, powerhouse, thekla, blue mountain and the uwe used to put shit on..Then i moved to London which was fucking expensive but a good place to live with a nice scene. After a while i moved to Brighton Which i love and doubt i would have left if it wasn't for Newport being the only place in the country that does the degree that i am studying for [documentry film.]
Seems as though Bristol has changed alot in 4 years and due to being a particuly poor student cant really get over from wales that often. Going to fabric this friday and back to brighton for Fallout/Minimelt on tuesday but can anyone let me know whats going on next weekend in bristol... I'm not being lazy honest just cant really afford a trip 2 bristol to get flyers if nothing much is happening... Oh also am not just limited to D&B very much into HIp HOP esp UK[ jehst, blacktwang, taskforce, braintax, aspects  etc] Breaks, electro, jazz, funk, bit a punk blah blah anything that emotionly moves me and means something to the person that made it..stuff with passion

Werd to the hijack crew!

My names Alex, and I'm 19, and just moved to Bristol to do Maths at UoB. I spent my gap year in Hungary working for a language school, and got into the dnb scene there - you gotta love Chris.SU.

I've only really got into Drum and Bass in the last year, but have tried to learn as much as I can about it, cos it moves me/gets me movin Wink. I'm into most types of dnb, techstep, hardstep, liquid, jump up, old skool - anything good really.

Had such a crazy last few weeks, lovin the scene here in Bristol! Met a few of you at the Jungle Soc social, and apologies if I stepped on any of you at the Fez - still getting used to these cheap student nights - messy! TeeBee was excellent - as it goes I saw him in Hungary as well - where he killed it as well.

Boo!

My name is Luke and over the last year I have finally got round to getting into dnb proper; although I really started listening after the vocal sample on Kloakin Devices (Krust). Im 21 in my last year of an msc in physics at Bristol, I listen to all sorts of dnb/hip-hop (UK mostly)/electronica/indie/funk/breakbeat, have had a show on Burst student radio and joined junglesoc for the first time this year.

I have been spinning for eight months now, listening to a wide range of dnb; all except some vocal stuff (e.g stamina mc..). Liking a lot of stuff on frequency, formation and commercial suicide at the moment; but thats always changing - I do tend towards the darker side. Regularly at Rubix cube on a monday (lots of room to dance), pop into the thekla a lot and keep meaning to get to clean cut records nights, although never manage it. Looking for some other student to co-spin on my new dnb Burst show (not final but should get it), get in touch.

Yeah, the board is wicked... surprised I don't know many of the supposed legion of dnb physicists.

As for spidergoat, he's my flatmate in mixing training, the name came from watching the news when really spaced... It was all about spider genes being spliced with goat (in canada) to produce a goat that has silk strands in its milk. The silk would then be used in bulletproof vests as it absorbs a lot more water (read sweat) than kevlar. Having said that it might not of actually happened.. I was really out of it... As for the training, he can only manage one mix, 100% of the time; the rest of my tunes he can occasionally mix (by accident).

Well, there's me, Lata, Consensus Ben (OK, maybe he's an ex-Physicist and ex-Hijacker these days), Alkemy, err....

Err, damn, maybe Hijack physics crew isn't actually all that big after all...  Embarrassed

I also like to climb rocks, ride powder, and mix & produce on a 'just for fun' basis.

Do you know any of the mountaineering club and are you doing a PhD in the department or something?

As for legion of dnb physicists, I lie; I vaguely know consensus Ben and Alex... Didn't realise that there were more though

Finished my PhD about a year ago, now I'm an RA in particle physics...

I dunno how many current UBMC crew I'd know, really. I know some of the old timers, though (cos I was an old timer when they were freshers Embarrassed). Ha ha, actually that reminds me, ask the old school people if they know Jungle Jim... Wink

Alright 7_below, nice to meet you last night at that house party.  I'm sorry if I was a bit rude at any point, cos I was knackered and fucked after PRANK.  I passed out for a bit, had a listen to the sound system and went home at 5.
Was very confused.

Yeah it was wicked... I was more concentrating on not offending other people than anything else, I was so out of my tree. Did you speak to Napeleon (sic?) Bonaparte or Steve McQueen? They were a comedy duo, had me laughing for a good half hour...

Nah, didn't really speak to anyone apart from a few mates.  I'm always useless at house parties and I was well knackered from an entire week of getting up early to watch cartoons.

I thought I'd better add my tuppence worth here, seeing as I've been picking your brains regarding my masterplan...

My name's Ed, I'm in my final year of a sociology degree, but am going to avoid real life via postgrad education of some sort for at least another year.

The aformentioned masterplan is the new night I've envisaged (read my thread 'doing things differently...'), borne of a bitter contempt for the circus music that seems to pass as d'n'b at the big nights these days. I want to run a non-profit event that pools local talent, showcases a variety of musical styles, gets a big-name DJ in to play a set that's a break from the norm, and shows the Burberry massive how it should be done! Now, everyone join hands...  Wink

Music-wise I'm into anything with a breakbeat, and also plenty of house/electro/punk/metal/Bavarian noseflutecore.

That is all.

Real name is Sarah. I'm 20 and moved to Brizzle about a year and a half ago from Oz. Got into d'n'b when I was about 17 through a mate who lent me a metalheadz album and have been loving it ever since. I think Bristol is the most amazing place to be. My friends back home get green when I tell them I saw Patife last week, krust the week before and etc etc. It just doesn't happen anywhere else! I have a bit of a thing for the darker side, but there's nothing that makes me happier than rushing to a roller.
I've got that Friday feeling and tickets to Thekla. Only 7.5 hours of slavery to go!!!

Well, thought it was aboot time to tell you lot a little more aboot me!

My name's Mark and I'm currently in my third year of a four year computer science course at UoB. I've been DJing (badly) for the last 5 years, getting into it all when the whole trance thing took off (Matt Dairylea etc...). I've played Trance (before that went to the big castle in the sky), Progressive house (before that died too), Hard House (until I got a headache), NuSkool breakz, tech house, funky house and US garage. I bumped into the Rubiks Cube lot (Doug, Kendall and Jim) at a festival called Soul Survivor just before coming to uni here.

Then everything went a bit quiet for a year - most of my mates from the first year (with the exception of Jonnies) are completely wet when it comes to going out. Its impossible to get them into a club, and if you manage it you know its gunna be playing cheese  Cry. I got involved in Contageous thru Woodlands Church though, and got to know the Rubiks Cube / Cafe crowd and now help out at both events as much as I can.

I'm at Rubiks every week almost without fail, often on the door or behind the decks when they get desperate  Wink Oh yeah, I also got bitten by the D'n'B bug badly. I had to buy LK and Playtime, and not been able to stop since!

Not much else to say really. I avoid going home at all costs because a) I love Bristol too much and b) What the heck happens in Salisbury anyhow? I need to go to more nights, but I'm still living with people who just don't do clubs - so normally struggle to know who to go with. Oh well!

Thats me then... next!

Hello, welcome to the board of limittless joy and love.
Firesticking eh? Any pictures to show us what you mean? I'm not a big fan of the balls on the ends of strings that people twirl around - but if it's the sticking I'm thinking of then that is cool. Looks impressive and mesmerising when done by someone who is good at it. Anyway, there's no such thing as too gay for jungle. The gayer the better.

Easy all

Finally found a Bristol based dnb board, hurrah!

been hanging around on DOA for the past couple of years and just seen the link to this place

Anyway, I'm Dave 25 nearly 26 currently living in London though my heart is in the west country (and i'll be back in june, can't wait)

been into dnb since i got "educated" by some mates at uni in about 1996.  "Who's Ed Rush?" I asked of one of my mates who then proceded to introduce me to dnb, was into hardcore and house (fabio and grooverider tape from around 92 that i pretty much wore out) a little bit before that anyway but not really majorly

been djing for about 4 years though for the last year my decks have been in storage sue to sharing a small studio flat with my (non-dnb) girlfriend who is in her final year at uni.

I like loads of styles of dnb, can't really settle, especially fond of tech-steppy stuff like stakka and skynet, C4C, concord dawn etc, though i'm beginning to develop a taste for the more liquid styles, there's just too much good dnb around too choose.

oh yeah as a job at the moment i am a professional scanner, very boring but luckily only a temp job, i am hoping to be a primary school teacher though

1996 has gotta be one of the best points to get into the scene with some of those Ed Rush releases like "Skylab" and "The Raven".

to the best of my knowledge all photos taken in bristol, clifton. as far as the firesticking goes talent is a strong word, only been going since christmas but would suggest anyone to give it a go, it's smacking yourself with a big metal pole thats more dangerous than actually setting yourself alight, anyway thanks for the intrest, must stop hijacking this thread now.......

Hello,

I've been reading and occasionally adding my 2 cents to Hijack for a little while now, so thought it only polite to introduce myself.

I'm Stuart, although most people call me Ronnie, I'm 26 and an original West-Country dweller (Weston-super-Mare; a painful, yet thankfully distant memory).Went to Uni in the Midlands until 2000 when I moved to & work in Clifton.

Been into DnB since 97/98, when one of my mates got some decks and we tried to teach ourselves to mix it. I'm more into the liquid side of the scene, but a tearing anthem will still get me going. Slayer

I'm also very much into Hip Hop; not the commercial shite, but the well-produced, intelligently MC'd stuff (think RJD2/Soul Position, Ugly Duckling, Aspects, Shadow etc). I also like Soul, Breaks n Beats, some House music (which I used to DJ before I got all disillusioned with the scene) and anything else that makes me tap my feet.

Try to go out to DnB nights when i can, although this has dwindled quite recently on account of my friends either not being into it Eek or having settled down with non-DnB girlfriends. When I do manage to get out, Metric is a common haunt.

Hi

Thought as i'm new to the forum, thought this might be a good place to start.

My name's Andy and i'm 24. Been into Jungle/DnB since about 97 when I went to my first Ruffnect Ting at UWE. Never looked back then really and got my set of decks in 99. DJ more for fun really now, though have played a couple of sets at Bar Latino a little while ago.

Had kinda fallen a bit out of love with the scene last year culminating in me only going out twice in a year, but a couple of good nights recently have got the enthuasiam back. Been a bit of a Drive By stalwart in the Thekla/Creation days, but not been so much since it's been to the Academy. Other fave nights have been Locus/Metric, Infdelity which I spose reflects my love for the more liquid stuff. I don't know must be getting old  Smiley

Anywat, time to knock off work. Look forward to chatting more to you peeps.
