Welcome everyone.  Smiley

Hi my name is Jake,

Im the guy that ignorantly over looks the 'introduce yourself' part of forums and posts regardless. But today i'm going to make a change.

Im 21 years of age grew up in Bristol and left at the tender age of 18 to study FIlm & TV Production In London. I have now finished and broke as expected and of course living back home with my parents.
Also I now have a lack of friend in Bristol..so I need to get busy make new friend network with people and start enjoying life in Bristol again.

I film anything related to music. Its what I love to do combining 2 of my favourite things together although the ultimate goal is to work in wildlife production but thats another story for another day.

My music interest are all genres bar 'pop' I just cant bring myself to do it. But yeah post-rock anything like Explosions in the sky, Sigur Ros. Erm Electro Drum and Bass Dubstep I like all sorts.

Ultimately I would like to start working with musicians around Bristol not only musicians but anyone who's doing something productive/creative that might need some promo videos or perhaps even a photo-shoot.

So yeah thats me, I'm a calm slightly introverted person almost too laid back to a point it worries me. But its alright.

Hey HIJACK,

My name is Vytis and i go by the name BOYFRIEND.
I DJ and Produce for quite some time now. Check my soundcloud www.soundcloud.com/boyfriend
I released on labels such as Diabluma Sound, Senseless, Mad Decent, Discobelle, Man recordings, etc.....

In 2011 i DJ'ed in Bristol and fell in love with the city and that's why me + my GF are relocating to Bristol early February. I desperately needed a change and this sounds like a perfect plan!

During the day i'm a Graphic Designer. Doing lots of corporate and boring stuff at the moment tho... i LOVE flyer design and anything music related, you can say it's my speciality. Check www.vytisgruzdys.com for my latest music related stuff, won't bother you with corporate stuff...

And if anyone has got a spare double room to rent somewhere central - hit me up at boyfriend@clubtropi.com !

Nice to e-meet you all, this looks like a great community!

Hey Hijack, Tomato Bad Teeth

I'm 19 and am currently in my second year at Bristol uni, now I never want to move back after growing up in Worcestershire.
In 2010 I briefly started up a clothing company called 'Psyched', it was stocked in 'Seven' on park street but I stopped after getting fucked over by numerous manufactures... until now.
Looking forward to a spring launch, should be big. really want it to be more than a bog standard Bristol based clothing brand, I want to add to the vibrant music culture in Bristol and am really keen to start a club night.
I've helped out at both Brisfest and Fear of Fiction festival last year and am so inspired to be involved in the music industry.
I'm really into a wide range of music from  DnB, Downtempo, trip hop and house to the sounds of shoegaze indie.
So much love for Bristol. Heart

Nice to meet you all!

Hey Hijack,

I'm Ad. I've been living in Bristol for about 5 years after coming here to study. I love this city, it's got a lot to give.

I'm joining Hijack after all this time as I'm looking for DJing leads in Bristol and new music inspiration. I've been DJing for quite a number of years but have only managed to play out a handful of times, mainly because I've worked so many hours a week for the last few years that I haven't had much time for recording or self promotion. My new years resolution is to make that change!

That said, I'm writing this from the office as I 'work' late on another 'extra' project...

Btw I build robots for a living, so you can see why its easy to get sidetracked by work!  Doh!

So, if anyone has any tips for getting DJ gigs, let me know Smiley I used to rely on people at parties just offering me club slots, but I think I'm hanging out with the wrong people these days Tongue

Hi all,

I moved to Bristol recently and am hoping to find some other people, in the area, that are into 8-bit/chip/lo-fi music to gig with.

I've just released a free 7 track EP of horror/bass-influenced game-boy tunes. If anyone's interested in giving it a listen, you can download it for free here:

Hey dudes, dudettes, Ravers

Name: Harry
Age: 30 (christ!)

I'm newish to Bristol, I moved here from Aberdeen, NE Scotland in late 2011.

I'm not big on slagging off other musical genre's, after all it is just sounds after all. I can't tell someone the sound they're listening to is the wrong one!

However, my preferred genre is electro/electro house. Think Boys Noize, Erol Alkan, Crookers, Zombie Nation, Proxy, Mumbai Science etc etc. As I'm sure you're all aware (or please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) there does not seem to be much to cater for this in Brizzle. Although I have discovered Bath has a bit more.

As such I am at the early stages of trying to organise a club night to cater for this in the area. I've never done anything like this so its all new to me. Obviously in an ideal world I would be on the line up. Unfortunately up until very very recently the only DJ-ing I had done had been of the midi decks/sync button nature. I just upgraded to CDJ's and am still getting to grips with them.

I've found a venue to host such a night, at a decent rate and would be looking at running it on a weeknight to hit the student market. The main thing I'm lacking at the moment is DJ's who would like to play this kind of stuff. I can't offer any money. And I'm not doing this with the idea of making money. Its more a labour of love, I just want to make people happy and dance. If I break even I'd be happy.

If you think you may be able to contribute, be it as a DJ or anything else towards this night please give me a shout.

Keep Ravin'

Hi my names Jay i've been a professional guitarist for 16 years in the last few years i've been doing more and more sessions for electronic artists and producers. Coming from a rock background i've decided to throw myself into the world of electronic music and educate myself and see where an old school analogue guy like myself can fit into the modern digital world.

Hi, I'm Oli, 28. came here because I saw a bunch of hits on my blog from here, been aware of the forum for ages, but wasn't massively my sort of thing. I've sent a few people here though. I fix old valve amps, and soldering new photo cables onto Technics decks seems to be my new thing to be doing, word got round or something. Really, I'm pretty sure all they need is the photo jacks soldered on properly, but people bring me them with whole new cables, and I don't even know why they use phono connectors to start with, so who am I to argue. That blog I mentioned: http://ampstack.wordpress.com/

Hi all!

My name is Mat and just logged in Bristol. I come from Poland (Wroclaw) and will stay in your city for the next 6 months. I'm really excited to be here because I've heard a lot of good things about UK music scene. We don't have such huge and well organized electronic music scene in PL therefore I would like to discover and learn as much as possible.

My favourite genre is techno, however I really like dnb (especially neuro) or even harder style like raggatek (I was on party few weeks ago and that was sick! Wink).

Also, if you need help in organizing venues/events stuff (dj equipment etc.) let me know  Wink

I hope you will show me real music scene in your lovely Bristol.

cheers!

Just thought I'd say hi.

I'm Paul and I build and design synths for a hobby, which I'm trying to turn into my day job (I currently work in IT and it sucks).
I built a synth called the Monowave (http://vacoloco.net/synths/monowave/) a few years back, but recently I built a step sequencer called GorF (http://vacoloco.net/synths/gorf/).

I've just launched a synth called Zira (http://vacoloco.net/synths/zira/), you can hear a demo of it here on soundcloud - https://soundcloud.com/vacoloco/see-you-zira-demo and there's a tutorial video here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EC402wIhqvc

I live just south of Bristol but I frequent Bristol often for gigs and to meet friends.

Thanks for letting me join!

Hey guys,
my name's vice / James.
I recently relocated from Birmingham to Bristol, and have setup Street Soul Studios, which is located near Fishponds. I'm experienced in Hip Hop, Funk, Soul, Jazz, Dubstep, and much more. Street Soul Studios is fundamentally a session suite, ideal for recording multi-tracked vocals and instruments including horns, strings, bass, guitar, keys and more. In addition I have a deck and Serato setup ready to record DJ sets, podcasts or just to use as a practice space. My rates are very competitive, mainly because I love music, and want to work with as many people as possible. The studio is clean, comfortable, has WIFI, and is in a nice secure location.

I offer engineering, mixing, mastering and remixing services alongside full production. If you have an idea of how you want your music to sound, then bring along some reference tracks and i'll help you to create the sound you are looking for.

If you're interested, please give me a shout. and I'll try my best to suit your needs and budget.
Thanks
James -

Hi Guys, my name is Paul. I came to Bristol 2 months ago. Before I'd lived in different places in the UK, but Bristol is the nicest one I've ever been in. Apart from that there is a good music scene here what I value a lot as music has always been the most important part of my life. I've been djing for the last 10 years, mainly in Poland, where I also had my own series of events. Currently I'm working very intensively on production wanting to implement my own vision of music and looking for some people to share my passion with, go to clubs and hang out. I'm happy I found this forum and now can join you. Hope I will have a nice time here and get to know some interesting people. My music style is deep/progressive/tech house/techno.

Ello,

I'm Carlo Zen; D&B first and foremost on the turntables, also into trip hop, dub, chill and Latin music.

Favorute people like; Klute, Dom & Roland, Bad Company, Ram Trilogy, Markus Intalex, Bryan G, Dillinjah, Bukem, Ed Rush & Optical. Found myself enjoying cinematic sounds recently, and also more into ambient electronica.

In joke, Sorry.

Basically a local 'artist' accused promoters in that thread of only booking their mates. Or more specifically of not booking him.

It turned into a mega belm fest and now the thread and argument usually get mentioned when the words 'mates' or 'promoters' get mentioned.

Well, I say usually, really that was until this forum died on it's arse a couple months ago.

Either way, welcome  Smiley

Hello people of Hijack,

I am a sonic artist, Bristol based with a keen habit for Max/MSP.

I host wednesday evening at Golden Lion, Bristol where we have a monthly ambient/noise night and a month producers/laptop night.

I am looking for performers for these nights, but if you are keen to get involved message me as even if you don't feel you fit into these 'genres' we want different styles all the time and there will always be a slot for you. We do pay (small budget but always money) and always a few beers.

Please message me if you are interested, or even add us on facebook 'Uberphonic Presents' and come check us out

Best--- Lloyd

Hi I'm Jack AKA thebendywizard I'm 25 and very new to Bristol,

Im previously from London where i did a sound and media degree. You could say London kicked off my passion for DNB, Starting with Hospital nights i slowly grew into more darker areas of DNB and started going to Dylans Therapy Sessions and Tech:nlogy nights. Then moving to Bristol its the perfect place for me to settle and try get a few slots of my own.
With this I'm trying to find my feet as a Drum and bass DJ mainly doing Techstep/ Dark and Neurofunk but i wasn't sure where to begin so thought this may be a good start.

Has anyone got any tips on how to or a good places to start trying to sort a slot somewhere?

Cheers

Hello there! I'm Neo Brown and I'd like to say hi, amongst other things..  Cheesy

Me and my 2 chums re::form & The Hiphoppapotamus have got a night going at No. 51 Stokes Croft by the name of Funky Friday.

It'd be marvellous to see some of you folks down there, the last 3 events have gone really well and been so busy it's really worth getting down early as it's been 1 in, 1 out after a certain time.. Surely it should be 1 out, 1 in.... Hmmm. Well, come along nonetheless!  Two Thumbs

Here's a purrrdy picture for you that will also link you to the FB event page. Ahh that's nice, eh?

Howdoo Hijack, I'm Andy King a degenerate misfit/drifter trying to make a contribution to the Bristol House scene. I have been extremely interested in old skool house and garage music for some years now and dig everything to do with those retro vibes. I've dipped my toes in to the world of producing and am seriously considering breaking in to the realms of DJing/rave promotion. Currently my main influences are NY 90s garage and Italo House - not all that easy to find in BS, but some of the deep house stuff at Dojo veers close to that....

cheers

For UK Garage, Ben Daley is Bristol biggest fan I think

Hey Jackers!

My name is Jon, I'm a Bristolian who left this place when I was 14 and since been working in London as a music producer / mix engineer. I have always wanted to return to my home and it looks like now is the time.
I'm hoping you guys can fill me in on the scene and give me some guidance on where I should advertise and hang out to build up local clientèle. Any thoughts?

Hello, fellow people. My name is John and I am a gardener in Bristol. I live in the BS1 area, and have a wife and a small daughter. I'd be happy to meet new people here and to learn something more about the city, as I'm new around. I relocated a couple of months ago from London and so far I like the city a lot. Smiley
