Hey, I'm currently trapped in Birmingham studying Sociology but will hopefully be moving to Bristol after I finish this summer. I'm a regular at Glade and Waveform and a massive fan of TribeOfFrog, and I hear nothing but good things about the 'scene' in your town Smiley

Up for most things musically but particularly fond of psybreaks, electro house, dubstep, breakbeat... anything psy, glitchy, bassy and dirty... and psychill/psydub type stuff.

I'm a long time musician (did the whole academic and grades thing up til age 19) and have been learning production for the past three years, tried writing a little dubstep but have now come full circle back to my first love, psybreaks. Just got to get this pesky degree out of the way...

Anyway, hope to see some of you dancing/sweating/gurning-your-faces-off somewhere in Bristol-land soon, I'll be up your end as much as possible from now on!

Good to be here - DJ Daz Greendot playing in sounds of deep house, euro house and hooky tr-ouse. Will be working all over Europe soon but like that mercurial football striker, I always return to the home where it all started. Also produce my own tunes as Cazwalladr and will be re-releasing my album "Angelic Crash" very soon. Also undertake specialist soul, funk and disco nights. Tweet me like u do @dazgreendot.

Keep it slippy,

Hi guys, I'm jamie, (20)

For a very long time ive been into music production and Tech, left school did a Btech in music technology and didnt pursue it once it was over i felt some of the people there to be quite frank were up their own asses and possessed that kind of natrual understanding of music tech, whereas I always had the practical side of things cooshty,
I then moved on to study art for 3 years and dropped out 3rd year, i know what your all thinking he sounds like a right waster, truth is i really enjoy music but i just don't have the skills others
have to be able to move anywhere with it (queue violins) Lol

Anyway long story short, I really enjoy Liquid DnB, ive been working on a few things at the moment using reason 5 please do give them a listen if you get a chance and give me some
feedback whether it be a nice comment or constructive criticism I'm happy either way.

If there is anyone in the Filton/Lockleaze area of Bristol who enjoys producing DnB and has a tad more knowledge than i do that would be willing to share a few tips with me on how i could improve
that would be awesome.

Thanks guys

My name's Matt, I'm 18, moved to Bristol to go to Uni (UWE).

I love dubstep & dnb, but honestly the main reason I'm here is because I can never find any decent dub nights in Bristol, and I was hoping someone can help me.. Especially for tomorrow night!

Nice to meet you guys anyway.

Hello everybody!

I came across this site when carrying out my uni final year project on club culture but only now I’ve managed to post this Undecided All the mates I used to go clubbing with left Bristol and I lost a bit of touch with the ‘scene’ - hope this forum might help!

A bit of an atypical poster I guess, I’m Italian and 41. Finished to study last June at UWE and am still in Bristol working as research assistant and trying to keep on studying.

Despite it is a cliché, yes I do listen to all types of music. I love the music of John Coltrane, Billie Holiday, Miles Davis, Charlie Mingus, Charlie Parker, Robert Johnson, Ornette Coleman, Lee 'Scratch' Perry, King Tubby, Burning Spear, Skatalites, Velvet Underground, Lou Reed, The Stooges, Robert Wyatt, The Clash, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Claude Debussy, Fela Kuti, Sly & the Family Stone, Neil Young, Nick Drake, Serge Gainsbourg, Philip Glass, Steve Reich, Kraftwerk, Aphex Twin, Public Enemy, Tom Waits, U-Roy...well it might go forever! And of course in the 90’s I was hit by House (girlfriend of that time converted me from punk/reggae parties to raves), Techno (Aphex Twin’s Selected Ambient Works 85-92 still sounds amazing after 20 years), the Bristol scene (Massive Attack, Tricky, Portishead, Roni Size) and some Metalheadz drum’n’bass (perhaps Goldie’s Timeless the best ‘pop’ album of the decade?).

When clubbing I would say I prefer a ‘minimal’ sound, possibly very ‘dubby’ if it makes sense (techno like Basic Channel may be a good example) but if the music is fine any genres go – in the recent past I heard excellent dubstep here in Bristol. Oh I’m into cinema as well, nice stuff coming up from Asia and Africa or old French and Italian movies.

Anyway, apart from all the geeky stuff above, it would be nice to hear from you for some wise clubbing (and more) tip, exchange music and make friends!

Thanks and bye now!

Welcome newlings! Get involved with the main board, and there are always new sounds in 'Hijackers tunes and Mixes'.

SnypherZero - 'The Desk' is a good place to get production advice (but be patient because not may people frequent it)

Velcrohead - Bit late but in future if you want to see what night are on, stop by the 'Don't Panic' thread (stuck at the top of the main forum). Usually there will be a thread about each of the nights for lineups and hype.

Timelesss - S.A.W Love You know it. Surprised to not see Plaid/Boards of Canada/Orbital/The Orb/FSOL in your list?

Oh and if anyone calls you 'wold' (it's an in-joke) or gives you shit just ignore it! There are plenty of awesome people on this here forum with which to share musical thoughts (and any other old crap you want to chat about).

Heyo! After a few years of lurking I've finally decided to get involved after seeing my surname appear a thread.

I'm Jelly or WOTZiT (I'll get to that later), I'm 22yr old here in Brizzle studying music production at Access To Music over in Hengrove and I live slap bang in the centre of town.

Originally from London (Arsenal ftw). I've an awesome house rabbit called Fizzy (pics on request). Used to be a bartender until officially unfairly dismissed, still waiting for the money Angry Enjoy going out when I can, however lack of funds mean the last good nights I've been to have been SUB:BURBIA and WOCs Haloween party; all of which were pretty bangin'.

Only real hobby of mine is making music and DJing. I like a lot of stuff... Garage, UK and old US Hip Hop, 90s RnB, Soul, Motown, Jazz Funk (blame the parents), Jazz, Big Bandy Ratpack type stuff, Soulful House and the latest fad of Swamp81, Slugs, Hotflush, etc is pretty cool too. I also like the deeper darker Dubstep shizzle as well as the purply Bristol sound, L-Wiz probably being my favourite producer overall. I've also been a big grime fan for years, not in 'YO BLOOD GIMME YO PHONE' way but that I liked the old school lyrics where everyone took the piss out of each other. I always remember Wiley was spitting against Lethal B and opened with 'Your mums got athletes foot', brilliant lyric. Know though the scenes really come forward with people like Swindle, SRC and Preditah being amongst my favourite producers and Butterz for really trying to push things forward. I myself chose to go by the name Mr Shingles (friends parrots name) but decided to change it to WOTZiT because Shingles whilst achieving the aim of sticking of someones mind more often than not seem to put them off. Besides, who doesn't like Wotsits Smiley and it's easier to work with when trying to make a logo. I mostly produce the deeper side of Dubstep (gimme a break, it's easy) whilst I figure out as much as I can about logic in the process as I can so then I can play about with some other genres. I like to DJ Grime as it's really energetic and bouncy but unfortunately there's not much of a market for it so over the last years or so started playing a lot of house from 125-140ish which is pretty cool and I've played out in Day & Night and Basement45, only college nights so the attendance was piss poor but hey it's experience.

I like to chill out with my friends and chat music, play fifa and catch up on American TV. Big shouts to fans of Breaking Bad, House, Sons of Anarchy, Dexter, NCIS, BBTheory, Mentalist and a load more I cba to mention.

Don't really know what to say, look forward to bumping into people in other threads. Two Thumbs

Toodles,

Hey! I am here mostly to promote the music of the brilliant Hinkley Veltones...
If you are from Bristol you have probably heard of them... I am often asked 'what sort of music is it?' and it is hard to say... a little bit Johnny Cash, a little bit Leonard Cohen but darker, more upbeat..... This is what it says on their website:
There's a menace lurking somewhere beneath the crooning baritones and swooning harmonies on tunes that walk the line between the bitter, the sweet and the psychotic...

You just have to listen so check out their facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Hinkley-Veltones/194696777214037?sk=app_2405167945

And search Youtube cos there's some amazing videos mixed perfectly to the tunes. You have to watch this one to the end to see what Brown Jacket does!!

hello fellow bristolians, hope you are all well.

i have been doing a bit of shameless self promotion over the last few days with a track that i have been working on.
it seems to have the same vibes as the current weather outside, so i thought it might provide a brief soundtrack to your day...

Hi I'm kind of a new member. I joined Hijack Bristol yeeeeeears ago and often dip into it to see what's going on. I've just had to re-register with a new email address. I registered on the hunt for other BF3 PS3 players in Bristol.

yo yo yo,

I've just moved to Bristol from Canterbury this week. Originally I'm from Wiltshire so I'm pleased to return to the west Smiley

I spent 11 years in Canterbury, starting at uni, then messing about and having fun, great place but not many work opportunities hence the move to Bristol. I spent 6 years running a tropical fish shop so if anyone has any questions I'm your man. Two Thumbs I may have also picked up some Kentish scum way of chatting sometimes so feel free to call me out haha!

I'm ALL about the 303 lines and have been producing acid-y electronica under the name jeeroj for a few years. My first album came out on Slime Recordings last October. Before that I've been in bands and played various instruments all through my life so music's always been in my life. But give me a kick drum and a 303 line and i'm happy for hours. Slayer

Hopefully I'll be able to combine acid and the turbo brand of bass you lot roll over here and get involved in the scene Bad Teeth

If anyone else is a hardware warrior and wants to get together and make some stoopid tunes, hit me up!!

I do creative stuff under the name Clef Wretched, but my real name is Bernard... I know it's an old mans name but at the ripe old age of 31 I'm starting to grow into it.

I grew up in Cheshire and spent my youth sitting in a bass bin at Bugged Out at nation in Liverpool. I've been living in South Korea for the las two years and moved back to Bristol last year.

Nowadays I'm into deep dubstep, techno and Sasha and Digweeds Northern Exposure 1, on repeat, forever.

I dabble in graphics, making (shit) websites, DJing, Production and arty stuff and PS3 and live in Totterdown.

Looking to meet some older heads who still keep a hand in the game despite the pressures of work, homelife etc.

www.clefwretched.co.uk for music and pictures.

Hiya!

Good to meet y'all. I've recently moved to Bristol from Leeds. I'm into lots of techno, house and disco-house. Favourites include John Tejada, Mathew Jonson and Todd Terje.

Cheers!

Yoyoyo,

@hooner and EVS, I'm actually from a village in Shropshire called 'Wem' but I went to school and college near Chester.

I know Nantwich a little, will be sure to check out that pub next time I visit my folks Wink

Well then...
Thought I should say hi, I am a bristol based musician/producer mostly into electronic dance/bass music, thought I would get in involved for a bit of shameless self promotion. My band The Warpspeed orchestra are looking for gigs as well as other musicians that might want to get involved, we are currently looking for a singer/rapper to get the crowd jumping. Here is vid from our last gig

and this is our website

Hi, I've been lurking for ages and finally got the nerve to join; my friend told me I'd be 'eaten alive' and put me off... so be nice! Wink (Or is that asking for it?)

I've lived in/round Bristol all my life and I first used Hijack to see what nights were on but I've slowly got addicted to reading the discussions/arguments. I like my music, but no expert although I don't really understand House or Trance

That's it really Cheesy

I don't really understand House

Season 1 is a bit slow but after a few episodes it starts to make sense.

Dear Forum Members,

I'm going to move to Bristol in two weeks. I came from Budapest. I was djing there in techno and writing music in electronica.
I just would like to ask you to please recommend me some places where I can listen these types of musics.

In techno I mean the dark or more industrial lines. I would really appreciate your help.

Thanks and have a nice weekend to all of you Smiley. Smiley

Hello !!

I'll be moving to Bristol after the summer holidays. I'm currently still living in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
My main motivation to move is the music I love and all arrows seem to point towards the UK and especially Bristol.
I've been on short stay's in the city since 2008 when I had the chance and fell in love with the people, the music and the culture in the city.

I'm looking into affordable housing in Bristol at the moment so tips are welcome. Smiley

In holland I run a night called Deep Cutz. We're currently the Netherlands biggest sound system driven UK Bass music in an indoor skatepark but comparable to Motion i guess.
For an idea of our nights check the youtube link. Would be cool to get involved in Bristol and make some noise !!

http://www.youtube.com/v/aL08l5NpqT4

I also mc a bit so improving my english and maybe even get some gigs/collabs going would be awesome. Smiley
We recorded some stuff live at our night's so have a listen if you are curious how a not native speaker tries to sound english lol Tongue

Well thats about it, thanks for reading Smiley

Hey all, I'm Ben.

I recently came back to Bristol after a number of years away. I'd forgotten how good the music scene here was.

Whilst away my tastes expanded quite a lot and now I'm back, of the few people I still know here, none of them are into a lot of the stuff I like.

I'm not afraid to go to the odd gig on my own, but it would be good to meet some new people.

In recent years I've got into house, techno, electro, hardstyle, dnb, dubstep, minimal, a bit of garage, ...general raving. Planning on going to Brisfest for Roni Size, De La Sol, and Beardymand. Also seeing SBTRKT and Disclosure, as well as Alt-J later in the year.

I'm also known to have a play on CDJs or a midi controller and Traktor, unfortunately, lack of funds and not knowing anyone with their own kit has meant this is a rarity.

Cheers.

Hi guy. Checked out your soundcloud, really like that track with the phoneshop sample. Brilliant. Sounds like you've got similar taste to me. I used to ride too, don't have a bike at the mo tho. Used to work as a cycle mechanic too. How much of the Bristol music and bike scene have you experienced so far?
