been on here a while now but forgot to introduce myself

my name is graham, im 25 originally from cirencester in glos, been coming out in bristol since i was about 19 to free parties/clubs etc, i graduated from newport uni last year where i studied ba hons creative sound and music. moved here last year finally,

i grew up listening to metal mainly until i was about 16 when my mates older brother gave me a acid techno mix tape, started producing tunes just over 3 years ago.

I write allsorts of tracks, i like my environmental sounds (going out and recording my own samples) and using them in my productions. despite hating dubstep until i came to bristol i really enjoy producing it. I also like making tracks from videos

im currently setting up a new business with a friend from university

when i get low on money i work as a forklift diver, which is great in the summer

i occasionally teach school children with my environmental music workshops, which i plan on doing alot more in bristol later in the year

Hi there everybody, I'm Jess, new here! I wanted to take the chance to introduce myself and I'm really looking forward to chatting :-). I live in London at the moment, having graduated from Bath Uni. Now really missing the West Country, it has to be said! Hoping to move back to Bristol/Bath in a few years, and still loving visiting old friends a lot. I am mad about music, going out to gigs, clubbing, listening etc,  mostly dance music, electro/techno/trance but always a soft spot for a bit of pop too (plus guitar hero)!  I also like lots of girly stuff, shopping and getting all jazzed up for a night out, be it pub, restaurant, club or cinema. I love horse-riding too, and have 2 horses that take up lots of my time. Hmmm... I also love watching movies, though not that into television (other than lost!) I work with Magners and am quite partial to a nice cold cider at the end of the day. I think thats about it - Thanks for having me here :-) x

alright guys

Like Rydon ('ello!) I've also just recently signed up to the Hijack site. I'm based in Exeter and I co-run the Devon based electronic label Z-bop and as part of NONOM, promote no-nonsense music via online and FM broadcasts, mix downloads and the occasional party. I won't bore you with all that here though, I'll post elsewhere on this 'ere forum. Wink

I'd just like to say hello and wish you all the best from the Shire.  Cool

Hello everyone,

My name is Tim and I've just moved from Amsterdam to Bath to do a Msc in Technology. Furthermore, I am a "semi-pro"  Roll Eyes dj/producer, who's playing a mixture of techno/minimal combined with some live elements. I've heard that Bristol was a great place for clubbing and that especially D&B, Dubstep, house are quite big.

Would anyone know if there are any good clubs for minimal/techno/tech-house?

Thanks!

Hi, I'm Gail, i was the captain of the winning university challenge team of 2008, however, due to a discrepancy with a team member the title was removed from us. Anyway, as Bristol has such a great University life i though i would join your board and try and contribute in some way to the "Bristol underground". The music i am interested in is mainly classical music from the romantic era, IE 1820 - 1910. My favourite composer being Ignaz Moscheles. I am also open to all other types of music, in the pursuit of knowledge.

All the best, Gail

Hello Hijack.

I'm Jeanie.  Some of you know me IRL (Steve Redux, Gecko, Kraymon, Ross DoP, Stuart Wilkinson, Emma et al), and some of you may know me as one of the surly bartenders at Basement 45.  I like teh musics.  And teh dancing.  Probably more than is good for me.  I have just finished a masters and I'm currently scraping by doing some freelance writing, as well as attempting to serve alcoholic drinks to the music-loving public with some degree of finesse.

I like rollerskating, coffee, dressing-up as a zombie, surfing, beetroot, singing when I'm driving.

I don't like doors that push that have handles, people who come to my bar and are impressed that I can add their drinks order up in my head or are otherwise condescending, bad grammar, punctuation and spelling.

Things I have been listening to a lot recently: M83, Moderat, Micachu, and other things not beginning with M, like The Field, Lemonade, Hospital stuffs, and lots of mixes that people have very kindly put on here.

I am currently cider- and techno-curious, and experimenting with the effects of both.  Sometimes simultaneously.

Easy Hijackers...

I'm a Dubstep DJ who's just moved to Bristol... I have a residency in Swindon at a well respected event called DUBS.TEK and i'm looking forward to spead my wings here, from what i've witnessed from my first few nights out it's been boomin every time, seen some big names and some sick local talent from DJ's & MC's.

If you're a promoter who's looking for a new DJ to mix it up a bit get in touch. I've got a link to a mix i've done which is a bit old, but all I have available online at the moment due to not having the internet at my new place in Totterdown.

http://www.zshare.net/audio/65496737d0b84624/ - Live mix (Vinyl)

Things have come a long way since I recorded this mix, I only started to DJ in March/April time.

Have a listen to the mix, let me know what you guys think... I hope you enjoy it.

Drop me a message i'm looking forward to meeting and raving with you you all!!

Big up the Skank....

Safe Hijack.

Hey guys Smiley I'm a vocalist/producer from Australia. I'm in the process of writing lots of vocal tracks to suit triphop/dubstep/breakbeat type stuff. I'm looking to put together an EP of originals, and wanted to get other interested artists on board. I've already had a release through Ministry of Sound in Australia.

I'm going to be moving to the UK next year cause I'm serious about the Bristol vibe and the music. So PLEASE hit me up if you're interested in a collaboration, or if you have any tips on where i can soak up some good music/living places once I'm there! I really want to know what clubs to check out, and some help getting into the scene. Been singing live at clubs with dnb/dubstep and also electro/house stuff. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

Hello Bristol,

My name is Brandon I'm 21 just moved to Bristol about a month and a bit ago to study music tech at college. I'm into most things urban like hip-hop, dub-step, D'n'B and a few other genres.
I've started to get into more electronic based tunes this last year after really only listening to hip-hop and grime.
I've been learning about music by myself for about a year or so and thought it was about time to do things a bit more seriously.
I heard Bristol has a good music seen so decided to make the move.

Found this site after looking for something that might give me a better outlet to the Bristol music seen.
(seeing that I'm doing a music course thought it might be a good idea to get in touch with some like minded people)

So if any knows of any thing good happening in the coming weeks message me

thanks in advance

Hi there,

My names Alastair, or Ali or Alz depending on how well you know me, lived in bristol for over a year now, but I'm from Stroud so still a west country boy anyway!

I've been in to drum'n'bass since i was about 14, going to illegal raves around the Stroud area turned me forever.  Been DJing for about 2 years now, I run a night called Filthy Beats which is very popular in Leicester and is now being moved down to Bristol.

I listen to anything, from reggae to swing to jungle, not too big in to dubstep though (yeh i said it!) but a good tune is a good tune regardless of genre.

Lovin Bristol, the people, the nightlife.

Safe!

Hi all,

I am Adam, part of the new night running in Bristol called FilthyKleen, we're all about finding those styles and blends of music that the people of Bristol want to hear!

We have a major mash up coming on the 21st November and Bristol Finest Club, Lakota.  Headlining will be Adam F and Ray Keith, smashing up solid D n B along with highly supported acts King Connerz and J-Damm.

Room 2 has the variety we are all looking for, with Skeksi plus Harley, Spill, Gez and Actraiser who are gonna be throwing in the likes of Dubstep, Hip Hop, Reggae and Grime.

look out for the FilthyKleen crew at Lakota 21st November, we're gonna tear up 2010! Slayer

My name is James - I have been producing electronic music under various names for the past 5 years or so. I currently produce electronica and borderline minimal techno under the name Clasp. I am always on the lookout for gigs. Will post some mixes and live sets in the show-off section of this forum once I have my feet under the table.  Two Thumbs

I like virtually all types of electronic music and moved to Bristol last year to explore genres that I was less familiar with. Favourite artists include Squarepusher, Gangpol Und Mit, Audio, Ellen Allien, Cursor Miner, Current Value, Modeselektor, Extrawelt, The DJ Producer and basically anything that's tightly produced, innovative or downright sick.

Sup all. It's d-rods here, a veteran dj from Brizzle. Known for playing old skool 80/90's Soul and RnB/Hip Hop plus a bit of Reggae. Was, or rather, still is in a band called Freshblood which were quite well known back in the day!  Shocked

Been out of the club scene for fooking ages, but looking to get back in some kind of residential playing the usual stuff mentioned above ^^ but rather do some kind of funky/vocal house thing in a lounge/bar/club somewhere in my much loved Bristol or South West...

Here's a little mixup of warm-up stuff. Nothing special, just blended vocal house that I quite like...

could'nt get the player to work, so here's the link http://soundcloud.com/d-rods/house-warm-up

Have a good one people and I look forward to seeing what this community has to offer!!!  Two Thumbs

Alreet Hijack,

I’ve been lurking here for a while ‘at work’, and have enjoyed your combination of highly opinionated banter, local music info and well informed bloody mindedness – ‘tis a refreshing antidote to the rigours of the working day.  Even though I can’t be arsed to go out that much these days, lurking on Hijack has given me the illusion that I know what’s going on.  Loving the mixtape selection as well (especially Powercut & Placid Two Thumbs).

Favourite thread so far – The appropriate media / Banksy Mild Mild West witch hunt.  You couldn’t make that up. Bad Teeth

I play keyboards in Smerins Antisocial Club, and basically am into all the musics.  This is my first post on an interweb forum.  Hello 21st Century!

DJMX is an international DJ currently based in Southampton, UK. With a wealth of experience playing at events in not only the UK, but also Germany, Belarus and Ukraine, he is well on his way to being one of the stars of the future. With a drive to entertain and perform, there is no event too big or too small to see MX at his best.

His main genre of choice is Drum and Bass, but he also mixes Breaks with the same level of enthusiasm and skill. With regular bookings coming in from all areas, it is clear to see that hard work really does pay off. Some UK DJs have a fanbase that spreads around Europe, some further, however MX can boast one of the largest fanbases ranging from Australia, Malaysia, Japan, Belarus, and Russia, to Brazil, Canada, USA, Germany, Finland, Sweden and many more.

MX is a relative newcomer to the DnB and Breaks scenes having first got on the decks in 2005, but music has always been part of his life. Apart from DnB and Breaks, there is a large variety of genres still in his collection today, ranging from trance, rock, electro, house and garage. MX says 'People can say what they like about other music genres of the past or present, but i'd like to think that its the blend of styles ive listened to, or experienced at a club or party, that makes me love what I do now. To be part of the crowd of people dancing in front of the DJ booth was something I did every weekend for years, and its a priviledge that so many people from around the world enjoy me to be in that DJ booth now'.

MX (and KRISISDnB) has the support from multiple record labels around the world including Grid Recordings, Crooked Beatz, Dreadnought Records, Promo Audio Recordings, Dirty Needle Recordings, Second City Records, Wild West Recordings, Useless Plastix, Nightwalker Recordings, Motion Sensor Records, G-13, The Factory Recordings, Flight Recordings, Yaak Records, Rollin Soundz Records, Class A Recordings, Subfusion Records and more.

MX also has links and has played alongside major artists such as Simon Bassline Smith, Twisted Individual, DJ Pleasure, DJ Sly, Highroller, Dub Alley, Rusty, Breakneck, Sub Zero (G-Dub), Sensa, Rowney, Jayline, Dub Zero, Twin Audio (Alter Ego), Manga, Dose, Propa G, Messy, Dangerous, Butcher, Adge, Redeye, Logan D, Analoge, MC Rhymes, MC Spooka, Youngman MC, Impact MC, Phetsta, ShockOne, Killswitch to name the main ones.

Apart from being a DJ, MX is also co-owner of internet radio station KRISISDnB.COM alongside DJ NeO. Jealous and cynical people may say thats how he has had the exposure and successes he has had so far, but thats far from the truth. MX says 'KRISISDnB was started to change the selfishness and politics that is prevalent in some forms of underground music stations. NeO and myself wanted to give opportunities to good DJs and MCs from around the world to perform to a worldwide audience and thats exactly what weve done. The station built the KRISIS brand, and weve taken that brand to clubs not only in the UK but abroad as well and given opportunities to well over 50% of the artists on the station to perform in front a crowd alongside some big name artists'.

KRISISDnB was fast recognised by international artists who could see the openness of the station and they wanted to be a part of it. With DJ Louda from Toronto starting the ball rolling by having 2 weekly shows, that extended fast to now include more shows from Canada hosted by DJ Sw@t, Jaygatz, Vast and Spam as well as shows from Perth Australia hosted by the Inhibit Crew, Sao Paulo Brazil with DJs Rusty and also Artomik, Askart from Germany, Red Catz and Zeb from Belarus, Low and Mac from Malaysia, Funkmod from USA, and TDK from Belgium, its propelled the station to be the station of choice for DJs and MCs of any nationality.

The months and years ahead look to be exciting times for the travelling DJ, with more events in the UK, as well as Russia, Belarus, Canada and Czech Republic. If you want MX to perform at one of your events, then please contact him directly to avoid agency fees on any of his contact pages (Myspace, Facebook etc) or directly via the contact page on this site.

I'm an economic migrant travelling over the bridge or under the tunnel every day from Wales to Bristol. I'm into breaks, D&B, jazz, hip hop, funk and also acoustic music. When I'm not being silly with Fruity Loops I play double bass and whatever I bought on eBay last week. Sometimes this happens live with a good mate of mine from Caerleon called Chupacabra who plays latin percussion. We have a website and stuff but it would be crass to post a link here.

I like to listen to: any old Fused and Bruised, early Squarepusher, Highcontrast, King Tubby, should have started this list with Krautrock probably, free jazz played on Turkish instruments, drones, the sound of no hands clapping at jazz gigs, rain on plastic sheet, ZeroDb, Los Van Van, and you get the general idea.

It's nice to be here. A big thanks to the people who maintain this forum.

Cheers
