Hi Hijack, stumbled across this site so thought I'd join up I moved to Bristol a couple of months ago. I've not made it out much yet but am looking forward to meeting you all. I haven't DJ'd for a while, but play all sorts. Hopefully I'll post some of my mixes here soon - all sorts of rave/fidget/techno/indie dance/acid type stuff. I think some of you might like it

Hi all, not really convinced anyones going to actually read this so I will keep it short ) My name is Rob a.k.a DJ Strafe. Im 27 and have recently (well not that recently really) moved to Bristol. Im a drum & bass DJ who plays deep dark moving music by artists such as Klute, Icicle, Alix Perez, Spectrasoul etc. I have run my own nights before back in my hometown of Norwich and have played at lots of events, most recently for Signal at Timbuk 2 (Bristol). I also produce, you can hear my tunes at myspace.com\strafeuk I also Play FUNK, BREAKS, and HOUSE. In fact I will play anything that appeals to me really. Im looking to find some gigs in the Bristol area playing Funky nu-skool breaks etc Something to keep the party vibes going and the ladies dancing.. (and we all know that we need more gals dancing in clubs right fellas!). I tend to spin tunes by artists like Krafty Kuts, Merka, Neztic. Ils, Atomic Hooligan, Rico Tubbs etc to give you an idea of the style of music I play.. Funky and wobbly and guaranteed to get you moving! I do a bit of writing here and there and have contributed to ATM magazine a few times. I also work in one of the bigegst underground record stores in the UK. So if anyone facies chatting bout anything at all really.. or even better.. know of any slots going for me to showcase my skills then drop me a line at r.sayles@hotmail.co.ukCheers guys!

Hi
I am Imperial_Master_Chief_55. I consider myself a citizen of the world and can mostly be found on on Wikipedia attempting to post inaccurate but plausable entries mostly based on re-wording actually entries to make them seemingly correct but totally inaccurate.
I am pro choice, secular and think the PS3 is better than the 360.
I like the usual stuff like reggae and dance music and pendulum, i generally dont tend to like music that "features" anyone, which rules out most stuff with Wcliff.
probably wont hang around long as i cant think of anything worse than talking about the music scene in bristol (sorry but i no idea what your all on about).
but thanks for the warm welcome board!

Alright here it goes.
I'm Colin aka The Laughing Gnome. Why? Cos I'm always happy, it take a lot to piss me off. I'm 48 and been in the sound/pa business for 30 years. I have toured all over the World with bands, theatre shows, weekenders and corporate events. I've worked for some of the major record companies and management companies that are based in London. I have also set up and ran rigs for Trojan Records, Slammin Vinyl, Gatecrasher, Vision, Vibes Alive, Rezerection, Fantazia and Ektos. On top of all this I have worked at the BBC maida vale doing live sessions and recording exclusive tracks, worked in TV and radio, engineered and produced albums at various studios around the World and I'm very proud of my silver disc hanging on my living room wall!
I took myself off the road about 7 years ago due to back problems, crushed vertebrae from a truck loading accident! I quite happily bobbing along doing small PA work for bands, acting as the main engineer for the BOB fest in Bath, Oakland and Bremen every 2 years and helping my friends make their systems work to their full potential.
So there you have it 30 years working as a sound engineer man and boy......Still act like a big kid though!
Preferred system? Funktion One Res 9's with F1 digital switchmode amps built in (You can't buy these or find them on the website!) Funktion One 218's all ran with FFA custom built 10k digital switchmode amps (again you won't find these easily either!) This system will kick the arse of any other. Ask any D&B DJ or MC that has done a Slammin Vinyl show in the past! No distortion, just pure eyeball wobbling, gut wrentching bass and pure clean mids and tops. 40K in Brixton academy metered at 141db La eq 5 min. Got most of the dust out of the ceiling when running it up in the afternoon! Job done.
Anyway that's me!

Hi im plodocus. I have been living in Brizzle for about a year, and I am loving it. I feel right at home here! Loving the wide variety of music/nights on offer. had some messy ones already - particularly 'byte'. I was the big banana at the monster mash....good work uncle basic!! I am into most types of music, especially dubstep at the moment. I lean towards the more chilled side of things in general though, and if held at gunpoint would name 'dayvan cowboy' by boards of canada as my favourite track of all time! I (somehow) got a fine art degree in Exeter, so if anyone needs art for album covers or animation etc message me and i will see what i can do... I live with the one they call 'Phaeleh' and did the art for his 'Inside' EP.. Well sorry it took so bloody long to join in but im here now and thats the main thing. Safe Safe Daver

hey guys. i've come here straight from nuskoolbreaks.co.uk and am liking the look of it. my names theo and i've been living in bristol for two years now, djed for 5 or 6 years and been producing for quite a while now as well. if you are into breaks and big beat, check out my tunes at www.myspace.com/djchamber - all free to download. since january i've been doing a radio show on nsbradio called Cluedo Homicide which mixes up mainly big beat/breaks/hip-hop and a bit of scratching but has also been known to delve into drum n bass, funk, reggae and pretty much anything to get souls shaking. listen to that at nsbradio.co.uk or download the old shows from here: http://archives.nsbradio.co.uk/archives/index.php?dir=DJ%20Chamber/&AutoIndex2=fb58243cf3521941f2e00e6b4ed93d04i'm hoping to start a regular night in Bristol later this year with pals Dr Fish and DJ Minijay so we shall see how that goes and maybe if it goes well I'll be booking some of you guys for dj sets soon. cheers

If you are a wannabe journalist you should get in touch, we are ALWAYS looking for new people esp people into the dance music scene!!! Get in touch just e mail me on faye@suityourselfmagazine.co.uk LIVELY wannabe journalist, 23, GSOH, seeks gorgeous music to dance to, listen to, inspire and hopefully enlighten me. Must be soulful. No trance, hard house or other time wasters please. Send mp3 to: BOX NO. 57337I like all music with a soul really. The album that made me fall in love with d&b was Metalheadz' Platinum Breakz but these days you're more likely to find me listening to stuff by Klute, Calibre and most Hospital Records artists. Apart from d&b, I love old fashioned and neo soul, all sorts of jazz, a lot of hiphop, what I call lazy house, some breaks and stuff from the Sonar Kollektiv, Ninja, Tru Thoughts and BBE labels. I don't care what it is I'm listening to, if it makes me laugh, smile, dance or gives me the shivers (and not the way spooky stammering man-child Gareth Gates does), it gets my vote. Er, in other words, emotive stuff. Living in a town immersed in quality d&b has spoiled me and left me very fussy. The more I follow the scene, the more it takes to get me excited about d&b, and I sometimes feel disillusioned with it as too few true innovations are being made and there's too much emphasis on remixes. But then I'll hear an amazing, mind-blowing tune that will restore my faith, innit I've always maintained that variety is the spice of life and over the past year or so I've seen more live music and more non-d&b than I could ever hope for - and I'm pretty pleased with the results. When Jazzanova's Jurgen Von Knoblauch dropped London Elektricity's Billion Dollar Gravy amongst the deep house and soul earlier this year @ Seen, I had a "moment" - that tune had never sounded even half as brilliant. Putting it in a non-d&b context totally invigorated my passion for it, and for d&b full stop. So I guess what I'm saying is, you can have too much of a good thing...! You might be thinking, er, so what has this got to do with you and who you are? Well I tend to go on a bit, big fan of the stream of consciousness biznizz, and basically suffer from a permanent case of the verbal squits. As demonstrated here. I also say "werd" too much.

My name's Michael, I'm 24 and I'm in the process of moving to Bristol from Australia, via Highbridge in Somerset (it's a long story). The indie scene was always my thing up until about a year ago, now I'm split about 50-50 between that and d&b. Back in oz I was pretty involved in the local music scene and was out most weekends reviewing stuff for street press or online media. I'll hopefully find a place and move into the city in the next month or two and, when I do, I'm looking to do more of the same.

Hi! My names Lorna, 21, moved to Bristol 2 weeks ago (Just in time for my 21st birthday!) from Aldershot in Hampshire...awful place, home of the British army, so basically a military play ground when they come home pissed off at being in afganistan for however long, sober and without sex...go figure! I moved here with my boyfriend Alex (or Coleco, producer name), after he introduced me to Bristol and I fell in love. My grandad and nan also grew up and got married here, and I was greatly encouraged by my grandad to move as he says Bristol is the best place on earth! I'm studying nursing at UWE, transferring to do my 2nd year, and live just round the corner from the arches so I'm chuffed, despite having no heating! I'm into all sorts of music, including dubstep, drum and bass, gothic rock, electro, folk and random world music. And I love searching for random vinyl for my boyfriend to sample lol and I also love clubbing, gigs, festivals, urban culture, meeting random people and chatting about psychology and philsophy! Anyway it's nice to meet you all

I'm not from Bristol (currently based in Nottingham), but i'm intrigued by this board. There seem to be some nice folk on it. Big up!

Not really. Oh 'ave a word. Folk take the piss on here but 99% of them are nice folks. Which is a higher percentage than you usually get IRL. Welcome to hijack Toadfish, one piece of advice: don't post any pictures of yourself in a less than desirable state or it will haunt you forever.

Hello All, Newbie here, just signed up today cos I was drawn to your forum - you guys seem alright I've taken note of advice to not post unflattering pictures...anything else I should know to avoid being flamed? Am living in London atm but moving to Bristol after Xmas and am really looking forward to discovering all the city has to offer. Would especially like to hear from people with kids (I have a daughter, 7 y.o). LOVE the vibe in Bristol and can't wait to get there. Am into loads of stuff musically, unfortunately my days of dancing to techno are over but I still love a good boogie, breaks, funk, reggae, folk, electronica and ambient would all feature on a playlist of mine. I'm involved in www.purple-radio.co.uk and www.bigchill.netWishing you all a good monday...take it easy! x
