I am so sorry to tell everyone this, but my darling, beautiful boy passed away yesterday (9th April). As you can imagine I am still in shock, he was the love of my life and I was planning to spend my life with him. I can't sum up the grief I feel in a Hijack thread, but I need to do something and writing down how I feel feels like it would help, plus so many of you knew him and thought a lot about him, he was a big part of the Bristol music scene and he lived for music and cared about so many of you on here.
We do not know yet how he died, he was fit and healthy and not been unwell, hence why this has been such a shock. I kissed him goodbye yesterday morning and went out for the day, I came home about 6pm and found him under the water in the bath. I dragged him out and tried to resucitate him, but it was obvious he had been dead a few hours, I just knew, and paramedics confirmed it as soon as they got there. They are doing a post mortem next week and I'll find out more. He was only 34 and we had planned a most amazing life together. He may have slipped, or had a brain heammorage or heart attack, we just don't know, it is devistating not knowing why my baby went like that, it seems the cruelest unfairest twist of fate there has ever been.
Obviously at the moment I feel as if my world has caved in and my heart ripped out, it is hard to beleive I will never see this beautiful person again, who I loved more than anything I have ever loved and who loved me as I have never been loved; who adored his friends, music, and life.
I have had amazing support from my family and especially from Pete Forsaken, Foo Fon Fire, and Whale; they all loved him too as so did many. Also, for all the police-bashing on here, the police were amazing, I had six hours of police and CSI and CID and coroners and undertakers all milling round, but this one policeman looked after me the whole time and I cannot thank him enough.
Everything seems very bleak and foggy at the moment, but I know I will have to arrange a funeral at some point, being so young he made no plans - the only thing he ever said was that at his funeral he wanted our song, the one we were going to have played at our wedding. But one thing I do know is, if I had chance to ask him before he died what he would have wanted to do, I have a feeling the answer would have been 'I want a fuck-off big rave'. So anfter the funeral I intend to, with help from his friends, plan a MASSIVE night in his honour, with wall-to-wall dubstep, and all his mates celebrating his short, but brilliant life. When I'm thinking clearer, I will keep you posted.
Mods, if you could sticky this for a bit so people can write their feelings down and play tribute to him, I think he'd like that, you know I have a strong faith and I truely believe that he'll be reading Hijack in heaven (if anyone tries to question my faith in heaven at this point, they can kiss my ass).
Its going to take me a long time to get over this, but please all keep in contact, I need to have people's support at the moment, I don't want pity, I'm (not quite, but almost) the same person. I'm sorry I have to tell you all this, but I thought it was a good way of telling a lot of people he knew. Plus it's 5am and there's no way I can sleep.
Goodbye my sweet baby, I'll never ever stop loving you, and thank you for making me so happy. I love you forever.

Thank you. I know I'm being pedantic and weird, but can people not use RIP. I don't beleive in RIP,I believe he is somewhere else and if I know anything about Neil, resting is something he won't be planning on..
But thanks for the messages and texts of support, it is a comfort.

I'm absolutely heartbroken. Neil was a good friend of mine and we had a load of great laughs together. I've been in a state of shock since Chris told me yesterday. I've struggled to believe it's real for the whole night and have hardly slept at all. All I've done for the past 8 or so hours is remember all the great times I had with him and what a lovely person he was. I don't really know what to say at this moment in time other than you know I'll always be here for you Emma and if you need any help at all with anything then just let me know.

Dear Emma
Lou and I are absolutely devastated to hear this terrible news and our hearts and thoughts are with you and his family. Neil was my cousin and - although we lived far from each other and usually only caught up once a year - I always felt a strong kinship with him. The last time I saw him was when I met you, at his sister's 40th party last year.
When I heard the news this morning I couldn't think of anything to do other than search online to see if there was some mention of his achievements, and there's loads. I knew how dynamic he was but I had no idea quite how successful - it's been fantastic to read what a good DJ and promoter he was (I never had the chance of finding out myself, alas).
Neil was a force of nature; passionate about music, love and freedom. Long live his legacy. We will never forget him.
Rich x

I only really got to know Neil in the last 6 months, him being a fellow spurs fan we got on well. We were talking just the other day about him helping out with things for the next signal so this news just seems like a big shock and a kinda sureal. My thoughts go out to all his close friends and family. Big up Kymatik

I am actually speechless. Neil is a fucking top bwoy uno, one of the dudes who loved the fact I go to a Dubstep dance and fully kill it with Grime/Garage!, I probs would of stopped if it wasnt for wise words from the likes of him. Still shocked and really dunno what else to say If there is ANY raves to celebrate his life, It would be an honour to come and merk the dance for man, so anything pops off please let me know. J

I'm going to write to you separately Em but as I met Neil through Hijack (five years ago now) when he first came to Bristol then it only seems right to give much-deserved props on here. Neil is a lynchpin of the Bristol music scene- I've not written 'was' because we all know that the legacy of someone as passionate about their tunes as he will never disappear. I've no doubt that he's already blagged his way into a bigger and better party elsewhere (perhaps posing as Skinnyman) and is busy hogging the decks there, but I really wish we could have kept him at this one for a bit longer. Gutted doesn't begin to describe how I feel- Emma I hope you know without a shadow of a doubt that we all have your back.

I haven't really slept and this still doesn't seem quite real. I'm still in a state of shock.
Emma - you know how I feel but I must add my heartfelt condolences and sorrow to what has already been written here. As Ed rightly says, please take solace in your friends - we're all here for you right now.
Anyone who knew Neil will know that aside from his passion and talent for music, he was a fun, friendly, genuine guy and a lovely human being, always full of smiles, laughs, hospitality and good humour. I'm grateful for his good company and his friendship and I'm glad to have known him. Like so many, I will miss him, and I will remember him with nothing but respect and affection.
Godspeed my friend.

I really don't know what to say. Neil was one of the nicest guys you could imagine and he will be missed dearly by so many. My thoughts are with everyone that was close to him. As a tribute, I've started my day with what I remember Neil saying was his favourite hiphop tune of all time 'Dope on Plastic'

I'm gutted I'm at my mums with none of his music, but I think Superisk is bringing me some later, which will be a big help/ Good I miss him so much I feel like I've lost half myself.

We didnt know Neil very well, but we had the pleasure of meeting to him on several occasions and he was one of the friendliest and most genuine people we've encountered since being in Bristol.
Our thoughts go out to Emma and his family. We will raise a glass in his honour tonight.
Dan & Sean.

Such sad news... I really dont know what to say other than big love to all those close to him, and wanted to say my thanks to Neil as he was the first person to take me to DMZ, and I am so lucky that I went that night as it was the one that went down in history the one where they moved from 3rd bass the mass proper... and I have Neil to thank for being there. A great guy who be greatly missed Emma like everyone else i am thinking of you most of all xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

He was my first good friend in bristol, and I wish I'd told him more how much I valued him as a friend and a housemate when we lived together. An amazing person, I can't believe he is gone. I dont know what to say on here, Emma each and every person he met will never forget him... The bells are ringing in the church here at home, and I hope he can hear them wherever he is now, for him they sound beautiful. xxxx

Emma I'm so sorry to hear that. What shocking news. I'd only ever met Neil out but he was always in high spirits with a big smile on his face. His love and depth of musical knowledge was untouchable. My thoughts go to you and his family. Rest in peace Neil.

Tony and I are in complete shock
Neil was a legend and we are both greatful to have ever known such a top bloke
He is one of the most genuine people i have known and would alsways stop and chat with a massive grin on his face. Even when he had grazed his face to bits and had a massive scab on his nose from falling over all he could do was laugh about it!
We will both miss him terribly. The Bristol scene has a massive big gaping hole in it now he's not here.

Absolutely speechless. I just saw Kymatik's name on facebook and thought 'Jeez that's a person I haven't seen in a while.' Seeing that a few of my friend's status's said big up Neil, I assumed he and played some monster set last night or something. So I thought i'd do some internet searching to find out what he had done to deserve so many big ups and to chase him up to potentially catch up for a beer sometime. But this is not what I expected to see. It is a devastating loss to the Bristol music scene (and further a field). I haven't seen Neil in sometime, but still he is a character who I will sorely miss. My condoloences got out to his friends and family and especially Emma. can't hardly believe it.

I am so sorry to hear that. I have known Neil for many years since before he moved to Bristol, when he lived in Leicester. He was a top guy really into his music, always has been, and devoted also to his dog Tara. I'm so sorry to hear this news, and will remember his energy and passion for anything he set his mind to. I hope he lives on peacefully around us. xxx

I am utterly utterly shocked. But thought Id sign back up and say something. Neil is one of the friendliest guys Ive met, always smiling and positive, and very welcoming. He would always stop to have a gossip and a joke in a rave. Just looking at what people have written here, shows how much of an effect he had. My thoughts are with you Emma and his family. And I will be at any rave that is put on for him, getting as hype as I can in honour. Much love H x

This is a real shock and a tragic loss. What else to say that hasn't already been said about this shining light? I only met Neil a few times but it was clear to see that he was a talented, passionate and charismatic individual - and he's going to be sorely missed. I remember when he came to do some DJ workshops at Access To Music. The students absolutely loved it. Bouncy, lively and super keen, Neil was able to communicate his love of the decks to everyone there. All my thoughts are with those who were special to him, especially Emma.

This is utterly devastating news. Neil is one of the most caring, friendly and funny people I have had the had the privilege to have met and would always bring smile to my face whenever I saw him. Emma I don't think I have met you, but my heart goes out to you. There is nothing I can say, but I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say we're all here for you. I can't imagine how you are feeling. This is so unfair and so undeserving to such a wonderful person, he will truly be missed. Keep us posted when we're going raving. Alice and Chris xxx

I never met him but like others, I really felt his presence as part of the Bristol music scene, and socially as part of what I love about about Bristol, and why I came here. Really sorry to hear this indeed. Deepest condolences to pippin-drill and all his family and friends.

totally shocked by this! neil was one of the loveliest + warmest people i've ever met, always completely postive with a massive smile on his face. he was one of the first people i chatted to when i moved to bristol a few years ago, and he gave me some real encouragement and confidence about the music i was making. it's safe to say without the positivity and kindness of people like neil, there'd be a lot less people making beats and djing in bristol! my thoughts are with you emma, and his friends and family.

I have so many thoughts in my head of what I could say in this thread but it feels to surreal typing it. I think James sumed it up best. Absolutely gutting and heart wrenching that this could happen to such a great person and friend who had such big plans and an amazing future to look forward to. It really is lovely to see such nice comments here and it leaves a lump in my throat thinking if only he could read them... Emma, you know my heart goes out to you completely... I can't really say more on here to be honest. Just know we are all here for you xxxx

I really don't know what to say. Neil was one of the nicest guys you could imagine and he will be missed dearly by so many. My thoughts are with everyone that was close to him. As a tribute, I've started my day with what I remember Neil saying was his favourite hiphop tune of all time 'Dope on Plastic' The best way to rememer him, for all of you, is put on your favourite tune and have a skank. I'm gutted I'm at my mums with none of his music, but I think Superisk is bringing me some later, which will be a big help/ Good I miss him so much I feel like I've lost half myself. I will be playing a set in Neil's memory tonight including lots of classic hiphop I know he loved. I know he would want his life celebrated with music

Found out last night, although I only spoke to Neil a few times, it was obvious his passion for music and his involvement in Bristol. My heart goes out to Emma and all his friends and family, those who were with him Wed night............... Such a shock and a terrible loss. I think the party to celebrate his life is a great idea-a great way for everyone to show their support in unison.

I really don't know what to say. Found out last night whilst at The Croft and was absolutely shocked. I didn't know him personally other than meeting him briefly in the clubs, but i knew he was a big part of this scene, and very well respected. My thoughts are with you Pippin and his family, and to everyone who knew him.

only met him once, played a set superisk/chairman/kymatick/zyga 2 tunes b2b. amazing dj and really nice guy. really wanted to play a gig with him again. I lost a mate two months ago, its the hardest thing that i ever went through and not a day goes by that i don't think about him.. my thoughts are with Neils friends and family. remember though, however hard the times to come will be, you will always have your memories to pull you through. its strange how even the bad times can make you feel better in times like this.

This has shocked and upset me. I knew Neil pretty well between 2001 and 2004 and he did a very gentlemanly act on the day after my good friend died after a night out with me. Myself and Madcap were playing at his night at Leicester Uni, however it didn't fill enough to open the 2nd room where we were playing. Neil had the heart and a massive amount of decency to allow us to play the main room for 45 mins because he knew I wanted to dedicate that set to my lost friend. I told him numerous times that was a gesture that would stay with me until the day I part with this earth. Sadly we lost touch over the years and pretty much only ever chatted (and argued!! for those that know - often told us to get a room) on forums and AIM. The time we went to Greece to DJ together, Trisect in Leicester, etc etc. Great times and this only serves to make those memories stronger. Pippin, I don't know you but my heart goes out to you. NEIL - RIP MATE. May we meet again someday for more "constructive" arguements about music.

Very sad news. Thoughts go out to you Pip, I only met him once a couple of years ago when he gave me a monitor. I walked across town thinking it was flatscreen and when i got there turned out it was a massive crt. I just couldnt make it all the way home and ended up leaving it on the street. PM'd him to say thanks - I never mentioned that it didn't even make it to my door.

Genuinely really upset - I met Neil only a few times, but he was always such an amazing character, and so ready to help people out in the industry This is such a ridiculous shame... He'll be remembered - I've already copied out his CD to so many of my friends, and I'll do it more so now, he had a talent, and it needs sharing. My thoughts go out to you, Pip xoxox

I'm totally devastated by this.
Neil was a good friend and the only person I've ever known who was more argumentative and opinionated than me. He was the common link between loads of different people that wouldn't normally get on with each other and never judged anyone on the way they looked or spoke or acted.
We worked together for two years in a horrible corporate office and he was the only person there that kept me sane. We both escaped and were only saying to each other last week about how much things had changed for us and how excited he was about the future. I'll never forget bumping into him at Exit last year and the wicked times we subsequently had out there. Emma, both me and kasha are really thinking of you.
God bless. Jon

I cant believe I was sat sitting on the sofa with him in the early hours of thursday morning after a spectacular Dubloaded... same old Neil, we were chatting about love, life, music etc. He was properly on top form on wednesday night! Full of life and positivity. Emma, my deepest condolences for you and Tara. I know how much you loved each other and my heart truly goes out to you. I know you probably have a million people looking after you right now, but if you need an extra Baggy cuddle you know where I am Neil, it was a pleasure to have known you mate. Thank you for all the superb NYE parties, barbecues, front-of-speaker skanking and general jollyness that you always invoked, I'll never forget the impromptu dubstep rig at St Pauls carnival where you ended up playing for 5 hours, I will certainly be turning up the bass in your honour today

Devastating news, Neil was always so happy, positive + friendly...there will be a huge gap here in Bristol now he's gone.
Emma I can't even imagine how you are feeling and I don't even know what to say.
I hope Neil keeps up the good work wherever he may be now and keeps on skankin to the music.

I can't say I knew him but I knew his tunes as his mixes were on rotation on my walkman. I was watching the Bristol dubstep movie just the other day, which featured him heavily and I'm sure his loss will be felt throughout the Bristol scene. It's very sad news to hear. My sympathy goes out to all related to him.

Emma I'm so sorry I haven't written sooner. I have literally just heard the news. As Spit says - we all have your back. I will catch up with you very soon. But first, here, some words about Neil. Such a caring, bright, lively guy - who got better and better, softer, kinder and mellower the longer that I knew him. I know what an influence you have had on his life and he will be at peace (wherever he is) because of all of the moments that he got to spend with you. He will be missed by many, but somehow he will live on. He was too big-a character not to. My biggest love goes out to you, all of his family and all those close to him. Words fail me... I will see you soon. All my love.

My heart goes out to everyone affected by this, when you're going through the lowest times just remember that everything you're feeling is due to how much he touched your lives. I know that's an obvious thing to say but you wouldn't be going through this if he wasn't such a great guy, it's a true testament to the person he was/is as he lives on through you. xx

I have informed mutual friends of Neils in Leicester via Facebook - Neil had a big impact on the music and social scene in Leicester before he moved down here. They have made some really heartfelt and touching comments. Emma, I don't really know you, but I just wanted to let you know that the shock and impact is being felt up there too and that they are all wishing you and his family great respect and heartfelt wishes at this difficult time. x

Neil is someone im definitely going to remember forever, though i didnt know him very well we've been friends for at least 5 years .. always a person to stop and have a chat if in the street or at an event he was a great person who loved his friends and his music.. (as we all do, but with Neil you knew that he really really loved those things) this is really hard to put into words on here but as he was such a massive part of the forum it has to be done, not these words or even the message i sent to you emma can begin to describe the pain i feel about his passing.. the world has lost a gentleman, a great person and excellent musician, i feel proud to have known him. So long friend

I'm really sorry to hear this. Carly told me last night that Neil had died and I really didn't know what to say... I didn't know Neil at all well as I only met him a few times, I Dj'd before him once or twice or saw him out and about, but he always seemed like a really lovely, friendly bloke, always said hello in the street and always had a smile for you. I do remember the first time I met him though, it was about 5 in the morning on New Year's day a few years ago and Carly took me to a party at Belmont Road. I'd just come from Djing at Level and so I had my records with me. I didn't know many people there and was pretty drunk but I asked if I might be able to play some tunes and was introduced to Neil as I think it was his house. He was kind enough to let me on the decks and after I started playing old D&B and jungle records for a bit he came in and we played back to back for a few tunes. All I remember was that we played about 5 or 6 tunes b2b and then I decided to get off the decks and just listen to him play instead as he was clearly murking it bigstyle I figured I was too drunk to compete and I'd rather sit it out and just have a listen instead. From what I remember his set really revived the late night party crew and he drew for some proper big tunes that I hadn't heard in time. Anyway, I'm not really sure why I wanted to share that, but that meeting sticks in my mind. Reading this thread and seeing all the lovely things everyone has to say about the guy, it is very clear indeed just how much of an impact he made on so many people, and he will clearly be very sadly missed indeed. I don't think there's really anything I can say that hasn't already been said, but my thoughts go out to you Emma, and all his friends and family. x

I can't say I was fortunate enough to have ever properly met Neil, but by all accounts he was an absolutely top bloke. This has still come as quite a shock. I'm sure what has already said about him is only a minimal reflection on just how amazing he was. My thoughts are with his friends, family and with you Pip!

I am Neil's eldest sister and writing on behalf of his family. There are many things we want to say but words are too difficult to find at the moment. He is (sorry I can't write 'was' yet) a beloved son, a truly excellent and loving brother and the worlds best uncle. We are all devastated and in complete shock by the suddeness of his passing. Today we have learnt of how little we knew about his life within the music scene and what we did know just scratches the surface. That is hard to take in. However we have all taken such strength and comfort from the torrent of kind and heartfelt words which have been written.
I want to write so much about our dear dear Neil but just can't as I am shaking too much.
What I do have to say is that we love you Neil and just as importantly, we love you Emma. Emma, you are part of our family and always will be and we are all desperate to see you and give you that big Schuyleman hug that you so need.
Thank you all for your words of comfort
Neil we all love you and we all hurt so much but believe you know that Love Catherine

I haven't seen Neil in years now, but I'm terribly saddened to read this. I met him not long after he moved to Bristol, through Pete and a shared love for proper drum n bass. I though he was a top, top bloke and I have many happy memories from partying with him - him playing at Pinch's Context night, bass worship at the first Subloaded, getting trashed at Hijack NYE parties... I really wish I'd kept in touch with him since I left Bristol. There's a 4 day electronic music festival on where I live, which I reckon Neil would have loved. Tomorrow night there is plenty of dubstep - I'll be thinking of him while I skank.

I've got so many fond memories of Neil, not least of all the time inspired by the photo above. Due to a headliner being delayed Neil stepped in and played one of the best sets I have ever heard, the crowd were going wild. I remember how happy he was when he came off stage, he was so thrilled to have performed so well. It was moments like that which gave him a lot of joy and he was so generous in giving back his passion and enthusiasm to so many. He was always happy to get involved. That same weekend he played another set for four hours non-stop with similar skill and finesse, loving every minute of it. He was so supportive of me through the ups and downs and that is something I'll never forget and always be thankful to him for.
It's rare in life you get the chance to meet someone as warm-hearted and as lovely as Neil, and I'm exceptionally grateful I got that chance.

Just logged on and seen this I'm totally shocked my thoughts are with you Emma and Neils family at what must be horrible time, Neil was a top man always honest and so passionate about his music his 'Dubstep I up landlord' mixes were an inspiration and I know how buzzed he was about Soul Motive and the future.
A truly sad day for Bristol music.

Catherine, It means so much to me that you have adopted me into your family, as you can imagine a guy a special as Neil must have come from a pretty special family, and you all are amazing. I will be there on Sunday for hugs and tears and to give all my adopted Neices and nephew cuddles from me and on behalf of their dear uncle Neil, I can only imagine how you are all feeling, but I believe the shared love we had for wonderful Neil will get us through and make sure he lives on in all our hearts. I too have taken lots of comfort from the messages and tributes, and thanks to ALL to have called and texted and PMed, I'm so proud of him for being who he was and bringing music and happiness to so many. It hasn't really sunk in, I don't think it ever will, that I won't be with my Soulmate anymore, though know in someway he will be with me always. He would be so happy that I am being so well looked after by all our friends who are arriving in busloads to my mums, through the agonising pain and grief, we have been consoling ourselves with listening to his music, talking about all the fun and the love we shared and ranting at how unfair it all is. So I suggest all who loved him do the same, get together, put on his one of his mixes and crack open the Jack Daniels or Old Rosie, it's the best tribute to my beautiful boy x

I feel for everyone close to Neil, but of course especially you Emma - if you read this my thoughts and love are with you. x

It's been a long time since I had anything to do with the Bristol music scene and a few years since I first met and last saw Kymatik, he was a great guy and the sort of person that I would always enjoy talking to. He was so passionate about music and always great fun to dj alongside.
I am sure I have an old mixtape of his somewhere, I will dig it out and put it on repeat.
Love to all your family and friends,

One of my first memories of Neil was the day I moved in to Belmont. He'd helped me with all my stuff, got my Dad a beer after moving everything, then stuck on some tunes and we chilled and had a chat. We then out to the Black Swan, and I remember thinking I knew I was gonna have fun living with him! He was such a nice bloke, one of the genuine nice guys. He welcomed me so much. Love you Neil

The news that Neil has passed away has properly thrown me today I am so shocked and saddened by what has happened I haven't seen Neil for a couple of years but I remember him to be an adorable guy, and very passionate about music. He was actually one of the first person I ever met off Drum n Bass Arena, back in the days when he used to do Trisect at the Charlotte in Leicester. He has obviously since gone on to make a huge mark in the Bristol, and Dubstep scenes . My sincere condolonces go out to his friends and family, and Emma after reading your posts I have genuinely been in tears I can't even imagine what you must be going through - stay strong x

Very sad news indeed. I met Neil some time ago in Leicester and ended up Mcing @ Trisect on numerous occasions. Had some funny road trips with the bloke (one that stands out was getting mashed up in his stall at V festival the one year ) and funny evenings doing his Koollive show. top bloke, talented DJ. will be sadly missed was weird was just saying to our mate how i was trying to get in contact with him a few weeks ago to see how he was and now he's gone RIP Kymatic

Only met Neil once at a party and he came over to chat, I didn't know many people there so I thought that was a really cool thing for him to do. If more people were like that the world would be a better place. Our paths crossed many times since then but never got chance to chat again. Never knew we had so many mutual friends til I saw this thread! Anyways just passing through to say pay my respects.

Emma, I don't know what to say. This is complete shock. I had only just started to get to know Neil properly and I really enjoyed talking with you and him about all the plans the parties and everything. He will be remembered by so many and his spirit will truly live on.
Thoughts with you and his family.

Just found out about this and I'm truly shocked and saddened. I first met Neil just after he moved to Bristol when I was doing a night called Funkified at Thekla...not long after he earned lifelong respect from me for pulling a few big favours and hooking me up with the booking of the great DJ Noize from Denmark...one of my favourite DJ's at the time and someone I'd wanted to book for ages. As it turns out it all went tits up when Noize broke his arm playing basketball the day before the gig and had to pull out...but I'll always be grateful to Neil for the excitement promoting that night gave me. I only met him now and again since...in clubs, carnival, where ever....but as has been said, he always had a smile and a friendly word. He was simply a damn nice bloke. His passing is such a shame. My deepest sympathies go out to all his nearest & dearest.

This is crazy. I'm speechless.
Only met Neil for the first time a couple of weeks ago, but as a regular on the Bristol circuit I caught many of his sets over the years.
I was not a close friend by any means, but this news has deeply saddened me. I think it's a testiment to how much of a good bloke he was that I'd only met him once, but yet I feel really shocked and upset by this. He was kind, friendly, supportive and he seemed to always look on the bright side.
It's so surreal. When we met we both said that it was "good to put a face to the name", and I am masively grateful that I was able to do this before his sudden passing.
Big up Neil.

i have to say what a great guy, fun to be around and always up for a laugh, i remember going to pete bubonic's years back when i had just started to mix and meeting neil there, just watching him in the mix taught me so much of what i know about djing now! he was so nice, i had just met him and he even gave me a lift home. i will also never forget st. pauls carnival 2007 without neil it simply wouldnt have gone off like it did.
much love, he will never be forgotten.

Chris that is so beautiful, I've never seen that picture before and I'm crying my heart out, I feel like he's looking right at me and smiiling, with your permission I would like to use that picture for the service sheet at his funeral, it sums up what a beautiful person he was. Thank you x Em, It's Chris here, I'm at sams atm. You know you don't even have to ask me that, but would be honoured of course. No one has actually seen that picture, just one of the many pictures I have on my pc that's never been uploaded. It's how I remeber him, without fail he would always come over with a smile, a quality which is how I have always pictured him in my head with, and how he will stay in there. I know the emotions photos can create hurt sometimes, but there's a reason why you feel like that, shows how much of a top bloke he really was.

This had really knocked me today. Neil was one of the people instumental in making me feel really welcome to bristol scene/hijack 5 or so years ago - Belmont road parties, Hijack NYE etc. Words can't sum up how much of a great, warm guy he was. Amazing bloke, BADMAN DJ, all round legend Big up Neil Emma, Laura and my thoughts are very, very much with you, you have some amazing friends make sure you keep them close

The vibe in that driveway was amazing. I remember someone dropping Corner Dub and me and Neil going mental.. Absolute badman on the 1s and 2s, showed me some amazing music..Neil was the first person i met in Bristol who liked the drum funk side of dnb. One of the guys that got me into dubstep as well.. Always had a great time with Neil and the Signal boys watching Spurs play, always in the 'ardcore fanzone in the cat and rat. An awful loss, deepest sympathies with Emma and Neil's family..

Really shocked to hear this sad news I only met Neil once when my mate and I played at one of his nights in Leicester (Trisect) quite a few years ago now. We used to chat most days via email or on Drum & Bass Arena. He really was such a nice bloke. He wasn't someone I would say I knew too well but I do remember about 5 years ago now when my mum died, he was one of the few people who rang me (one of those situations when most people just have no idea what to say to somebody - much like this). I remember that day really well, we had quite a long chat and he was extremely kind and said some really heart felt words to me that I will never, ever forget. Just shows what a truly great guy he was. My thoughts are with you, his friends and family x

I didn't know Neil, but ive been introduced to him and seen him around at several nights and i know he did a lot for Beavis. I have been shocked and saddened by the news since beavis told me this morning, i cant believe someone so young can be taken so suddenly and unfairly. From reading this thread it seems like Neil left a bit of himself behind in a lot of people and will definetly not be forgotton. My deepest sympathy to all those who have suffered a massive loss.

This news has upset me a lot, the last time I saw Neil was at the Black Swan for AFM and he left the same impression on me as the only other 2 times I'd met him before that - a genuine, warm, positive bloke! The 1st time I met him was at St Paul's Carnival which he smashed before it got rained off and we ended up at Tao Bar taking over their decks for a B2B session with Ramadanman & TRG - He played this tune twice that day and I managed to get a copy of it not long after (but then lost it, but will get another) and it will always remind me of him. http://www.youtube.com/v/MnaRK8e_Ls0&hl=en&fs=1Big up Neil, you were an inspiration!

Only met Neil a handful of times but each and every time he had a massive smile on and always had something good to say. He was a warm, open and positive person, easy to talk to and frickin awesome behind the decks. Much love, Neil Emma - All my deepest thoughts are with you during this time. You are one of the strongest ladies I know but you have and all my love and a huge, huge hug is on it's way over now.

Am so so shocked, heard this afternoon and still in disbelief I met Neil 8 odd years ago through his love of music and Trisect in leicester, I feel so proud to have helped him run Trisect for 5 years with Mr Fox, Rob Coco Elvish and all the others, a gap has appeared today in my life and im not sure what to think at the moment, ive been busy trying to tell everyone here in leiceter, so many knew and adored him and shared his passion for music.
Emma, god bless you, and im saddened with you, he was a diamond geezer, argumentative, opinionated and loveable...miss him dearly
short on words tonight
there will be one more trisect in leicester soon, in his honour
i promise this
keep on dancing neil dont ever quit

He is a legend, and he is my little brother.
I cannot refer to him in the past, as for me that will never be. I cannot accept the fact that I will never see him again, but that will never stop him being with me.
To read (or try to) all these wonderful comments is both a comfort and gut wrenching to know that there is such a big part of his life that I am not involved in. His passion for his music, and his determination to live his dream is a lesson to me. He lived his too short life in the way that he wanted, and the world will no longer benefit from his golden heart.
The fact that he met you Emma, and found Neil happiness is a comfort, and you are a part of our family, and always will be. My heart goes out to you, you know that, and we all will be there for you always. Thank god you found each other, the happiest my brother has ever been.
I want the world to know the kindness that Neil has is rare. Always caring, love extreme, and nothing is ever too much. That is how our family is, and Neil is key to our caring, comfort, and love.
Not only that, but he is the greatest bloke, things were always fun (and fiery), extreme and passionate. Many good discussions we had, and a family joke for never seeing eye to eye. the thing is, we possibly did see eye to eye, but enjoyed the debate that ensued.
I just want you to hear the family angle, maybe this isn't the place, but what the hell; Neil want to discuss? I like your idea emma of hyjack heaven.
I can't belive this tragedy. In person the world has lost a gentleman in every sense.
He will live on in our lives forever.
I want to come to that rave. i will be looking super uncool in the corner, but what the hell.
I love you Neil.
Emma, do whatever helps, and see you sunday.

really upset by this awful news. Tara and I are thinking lots of you Emma and Neil;s family. He was a really wonderful friend and super nice guy and we were looking forward to catching up with him in Bristol again some time.
I'll never forget how once I was there at his place at a party in a house full of competent DJ's and he let me, a rank amateur play his priceless old school hip hop records and denied anyone the chance to try and kick me off those decks for half an hour.
Lots of love from us both.
CJ and Tara

So sad to hear this. I had the pleasure of meeting and playing records with Neil last year when we were playing at the Croft. Since then he'd alway take the time to say hello and see how I was whenever I was in the Flyer or out and about. Genuinely decent bloke.
One of Bristol's finest without a shadow of a doubt.

I'm shocked and saddened to read this. Like many people here i didn't know Neil that well but the fact that he had such a positive impact on everyone he met is a true testiment to the kind of person he was.
My thoughts are with you emma and family.

I just found out about this and wanted to add my condolences. Neil was a brilliant guy, always really friendly and from what I remember never had a bad word to say about anybody. I'm sure he will be sorely missed and he is a true loss to our city. I can't imagine how tough this is for you Emma, but my thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.

I'm so shocked and saddened. I don't know what to say at all. Neil was a trooper, a lovely guy and like Jem so nicely put, one of the good ones. I can't even begin to understand this bizarre tragedy.
its beautiful to see so many nice words of honour in this thread
love and hugs

I never met Neil, but the way people speak of him, the fondness many of my friends have for him makes this an even crueller tragedy. My thoughts and prayers go out to Emma, his family and friends. I wish you all strength in this sad time.

I only met him once but chatted away for a but at Byte in the garden... It immediately struck me how sound he was, and he was clearly an awesome guy and a talented musician. Pip, I don't know you apart from on here, but I am so genuinely sorry for your loss.

I feel a bit at a loss for words, aware that it's difficult to say exactly what I feel, and a lot of my impressions of Neil have already been touched upon - incredibly sociable, smiley and cheerful, he also struck me as a hard working man with a huge amount of energy and a positive, optimistic approach to life. He seemed a very driven and determined person, and I found this very inspiring.
Reading this thread reinforces these impressions, and the fact that so many people have so many positive experiences of him makes this even harder to take. I find it hard to imagine that I won't see him around in Bristol anymore.
I think the only thing that I can add is that we would be best remembering Neil by trying to adopt all these fantastic characteristics that he had, using them to good effect in our own lives. I think that this would be a fitting and positive tribute to him.
My thoughts to Emma and Neil's family.
Ben

I'm pretty late in this thread because I havn't long known. I'm tottally shocked and heart broken. He was the second person I ever knew in Bristol and a big part of why I thought it was so desirable to live and move here. His and Emmas hospitality warmed our hearts right from the begginning. The first time I went to his house, visiting Bristol before I moved here, they had prepared a beautifull fish meal for my girlfriend Lorna and I. I remember what a pleasent evening it was, and how beautifull it was sitting in their lovely garden chatting whilst the sun came down. I remember my girlfriend and I chatting for so long about how hospitable and lovely they were to us. On the same weekend he excitedly planned a whole walk, like a guided tour around bristol for my girl and I. I remember how enthusastic and excited he was to show us the city as he drew points on the map for us to walk to, and how fun and eye opening it was for us to carry it out, touring the places he enjoyed and that he thought we would too. Neil has been a really good friend to me, and has always been willing to put us up and allow us to enjoy his company, in clubs, pubs, and his own home. I remember when I told him I was moving only down the road from him in bristol, and how heartwarming it was that he was so pleased about it, how honoured I was to be his friend really. Neil was one of only a few people that really had faith in my music from the start, and carried that faith through all the way. He has been one of the people that have pushed my music the most, and introduced me to so many people I have good friendships here with, and I thank him so much for that, if it wasnt for Neil I wouldnt be where I am with my music now. He asked me on Wednesday if I was comming to dubloaded, with the same excitement and friendly charm he's always had in his voice. I'm gutted I didn't go but I had planned to go back home for easter. But that dosn't matter really, what does is that his legacy lives on through everyone else.
So sorry Emma we are all here for you and know you are strong.

I am so sorry and shocked. I have only just found out so I'm really sorry I haven't spoken sooner. But Alex and I were so shocked when we found out, and speechless. I first met Neil when Alex brought me to Bristol because he thought I had to see how wonderful it was and how wonderful the people there are, including Neil. Neil and Emma made us both feel so welcome, and that weekend made me instantly want to be a part of the Bristol community. Neil was always smiling when I saw him, and so friendly. He made me feel a welcome part of the Bristol community and helped show Alex and I some of the wonderful parts of it. He was so passionate about DJing and music, and he really encouraged Alex with his music alongside Pete. The last time I saw him was when he DJ'd at Blue Mountain last weekend, I wanted to go out last minute and Neil instantly invited me along and offered to get me in on the guestlist, Neil would always do anything he good for the people he saw as his friends (of which there were so many!). He told us off that night, as he played Alex's tune, campfire funk, but we weren't in the room to hear it, having gone out for a cigarette! He always made an effort to encourage Alex by playing his tunes when he DJ'd! If it wasn't for Neil I wouldn't be in Bristol, and I wouldn't have discovered such a vibrant and friendly lifestyle of which Neil is a perfect representation of. So much of Bristol will surely be in mourning for a while for such a loss...and it's through this thread that I actually realise how many people he has made welcome to Bristol, and how many people he has encouraged in their music. He just seemed to want to share with everyone his love of music and Bristol life. He would always introduce us to anyone he knew, making us feel at home straight away. I can't express all my thoughts about this amazing man, in any length of post, but I just want to say that Neil will be so sorely missed, and Bristol will always have something missing from it now. I think you have been amazingly strong Emma, and I can't imagine how you must feel. Please know that we (Alex and I) are here for you, and anything you need, at any time, just ring. Your comments about what he would have wanted seem so perfect, and are a testament to how well you know Neil. Look after yourself Emma, you have been such a friend to us, we hope we can be friends back in this time. I still can't believe it For Neil

Just to let everyone know I am doing ok, surving at least and have had an overwhelming amount of support from people through texts, phonecalls, messages and emails, I am trying to reply to all but because of the shear number of messages I haven't got through them all.
Thanks for all the support, reading this thread has been such a source of comfort knowing how much everyone loved him. I'm trying not to let the enormity of the situation sink in for fear it would break me, so trying to survive hours by hour is all I can do.
People who know me know that I live to look after other people and I looked after Neil best I could, so if anyone needs to chat or have a cry, or feel they need help dealing with their feelings or have questions or anything PLEASE get in touch, as I want to do Neil the service of looking after those he cared about (which was so many) so don't be afraid to call, I want to make sure everyone is doing ok.
I'm just so glad that I found true love, and feel luckier than the people in this life who don't get what I had, at least I had four years of being in love with such a person and every message and story makes me feel so proud of him. I am so proud to have been his girl.

I first met Neil when we were at uni in leicester back in the day. He was a lovely positive guy and we always had a lot of fun whenever we linked up. His leaving us is a true loss as both a friend and as a passionate DJ. My thoughts go out to his friends and family. RIP mr Kymatik - my amen brother.

I haven't responded to this thread since hearing about it yet communicated my deep heartfelt sorrow to those closest. All I can say, from my heart, has been echoed throughout and I'm touched that the positivity in here (Bristol and beyond) hints at the pure love and enthusiasm Neil had! I also believe top cat aka benj gave the most salient advice in his recent post.
Respect, I'll always miss working with you brother x Love to emma x

So deeply moved by this that as I mark of respect I'm ending all beef I might have with anyone. I never got the chance to meet Neil but I'm sure I would of loved him the same way I love the rest of the OMG crew. I'm also offering my MC services and massive help to any rave that is put on in his memory, I know my DJ Borai is on this too so let me know on here Emma. My heart goes out to you and my prayers are with you and everyone else who loved him. Jah Bless xxx

This goes out to Tom, Chris, Pete, Em etc if any you know. I remeber neil coming up to me getting really excited about the soul motive T-Shirt he just got made up not that long ago, it had the design going around the side of it. I really wanted one and he said he'd let me know when they were about. I havn't seen anything about them and he said his was only a prototype one. I would love to get one of these as way to remeber him as i love my shirts, did these ever get made up, if so how can i get my mits on one?

Definatly, i can remeber him coming over looking all cool like "check this yo" at the croft, I was like I want one! I was actually asked to do the logo, but the one they went for in the end was sooo much cooler! This was the mood wall he sent me.

Never met Neil but listened to his mixes over the years and read his posts on here. It's obvious from all the far ranging condolences that he was a great guy who made a mark on many lives. My sympathy and condolences to family and friends.

hi everyone, and thanks for all of the new messages.RE the T-shirt's, I'm sure Pete is you man, but Neil was so chuffed about them, and I'm going tomake sure Neil is dressed in his Soul Motive T=Shirt for his final journey on...
I am with his family today and I cannot describe how loving and supporting his family are, all his little neices and nephews looking after me. As I sit here reading this, his little 2-year-old neice Rose just climbed up onto my lap for a hug and said 'I love aunty Emma and I love Uncle Neil, even if he is in the sky'... sums it up really.
I here some big tributes are going down at the Thekla tonight, sorry I can't be there, but Neil will be down the front in spirit for sure.

Hello people. I'm not going to try and explain how I feel on here, safe to say Neil will be sorely missed as both a good friend and as label partner. We will ensure that the Soul Motive Ts are available to anyone who wants one as soon as possible but please bear with us.
We will be starting to plan Neils dance soon so if you are interested in helping out please PM me but understand if I dont respond immediately Thanks Adam

I was very shocked and am still shocked to hear about Neil. Heartfelt sympathy to you and his family. I saw him a week or so ago.... it's still so hard to believe.
Condolences to all that knew and loved him.
Best wishes,

This was horrible news to hear, my heart goes out to you Emma, do take care right now, I can't imagine how hard it might be, likewise for all close to Neil x
I didn't know Neil too well but heard nothing but great things about him. Every time we spoke he was lovely to me and those around him, his life and music was obviously an influence to many and I'm sure they will continue to be, I wish I could have known him better, he seemed to have nothing but a positive influence to his friends and acquaintances and was quite obviously a lot more than a lovely person. I hope he somehow knows just how much he will be missed by not only his friends, but whole communities, truly an awful loss of life.

As it shows in this thread, and anyone who knew him, Neil is a much loved and respected man in Bristol, who has left behind a true mark on the city. My thought go out to Emma and the family, may you find comfort in the fact he touched so many people and made other peoples lives fuller for it.
A truely great guy, one who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

This thread is a really touching testimonial. Really hard to believe that someone with so much joie de vivre won't be around any more.
Emma: this is something that no one should ever have to go through. You deserve nothing but respect and admiration for how you're handling it.

I'd not seen Neil properly for a while but would always smile when I saw his name on a flyer or poster - it seemed to be on the majority of them around Bristol. I've spent the last fw days trying to work out what to say and decided that Ben said it better than I could: I feel a bit at a loss for words, aware that it's difficult to say exactly what I feel, and a lot of my impressions of Neil have already been touched upon - incredibly sociable, smiley and cheerful, he also struck me as a hard working man with a huge amount of energy and a positive, optimistic approach to life.
If there were more people like Neil the world would be a better, and bassier, place. My sincerest condolences to his family, Emma, and his friends. Simon

I second that. Emma you are coping incredibly well, and it's so admirable that you are still looking out for everyone else Just remember that we are all here for you aswell, and look after yourself. Also our friend runs a small weekly dubstep night in Aldershot in the south east on wednesdays. He knew Neil and was gutted to hear the news, so this wednesday as a tribute to him he will be playing one of Neils mixes from a CD, to replace his set.

Need a tune ID... there's a Dubstep tune that Neil sometimes used to play with this vocal that went ',,,,soooo amazing' it may have been on a mix, but I don't know what it is anyone know, cos I was thinking of Neil this morning and it just got in my head over and over.
Pete thought it might have been Ruckspin& Quark - Sunshine, but it's not, though that song really sums things up quite perfectly too.

Been looking for that tune myself, Neil used to cane it. I'll always remember him dropping the ridiculous bassline version of Police In Helicopter and rewinding it every single time

As said previously a true gentleman and scholar, never had a bad word to say.
Much love to Emma in her time of need, definitely gonna pay tribute to him at the next Kingpin party by playing some Hardfloor! I have an amazing image in my head of him raving hard with a massive smile on his face to Mahogany roots! Legend.

Neil, you went above and beyond to help me out once when I needed help, and I really appreciated that. although I never knew you that well, you went out of your way to help others, for no benefit to yourself other than to spread happiness and kindness, both through your words and smiles, and your music. you played at numerous fundraisers and helped us realise our shared dream, and i was looking forward to you playing at this year's festival. the last time i saw you at AFM you had an idea you wanted to chat about but you had to dash and i was on the door, and im so sad your time was cut short. you were one of the most positive and genuine people Ive ever met, bubbling with enthusiasm for all that you loved. As said previously a true gentleman and scholar, never had a bad word to say.

Emma, I dont know what to say, other than if he can see you he'd be so proud of your strength, courage and beauty right now. If you need anything, no matter what, just ask.

Ben
I've had to be so delayed in adding anything to this through just not being able to, I've not stopped thinking about all thats gone on, or Neil or yourself Emma and everybody else since I heard on Friday. I'm still not sure what I can say - though quoting Benj for this reason - As he has summed things up better than I could attempt - The reason for putting the part in bold that I have though is because since Friday I can't help but feel that Neil has been a part of this but I have rediscovered the love for music I once had - where university had made it a chore I'm suddenly so engrossed and so much in love with it all again, with no real idea or reason why - the only reason I can think is it is Neils influence shining through. I not only looked up to Neil and regarded him highly for all the times he had helped me and things he had done for me but appreciated everything beyond words, and can relate many things, if i trace them back in the music/sound side of my life they always end up with Neil being a key element or a starting point of something. This tune will be one that will always put a smile on my face, I don't think there was a single time I came round where it didn't end up getting put on.. In the original guise it's one of my Top 10 tunes, so when first hearing this it blew me away and sealed a love for garage I bear now. http://www.youtube.com/v/EfbIq2kbXXsTheres so many memories as well I wish I could post, because many other people will remember those same nights.. with each thought of them it leaves a big smile on my face.. Much in the style of the man himself! A true soldier that'll never be forgotten, for who I have massive love and appreciation. My thoughts are with you Em, it's amazing to see how strong you are. Much Love. B x

Hi Emma- we really just wanted to say a few words about Neil and just offer our support to you and the family at such a heart breaking time for you all. Being extended family- we only really got to see you and Neil at all the family parties and the last time we saw him was at Steve’s 40th birthday bash. We sat next to you and Neil at dinner and had a great evening, lots of laughs and really this was one of the first times that we have had some proper time to chat and get to know Neil and you properly because the family parties normally fly by and time is spent snatching snippets of conversation and entertaining the kids. We are so so pleased that we got that opportunity. When we found out the sad, sad, sad news we just couldn’t believe it, we were both reeling from shock and we kept thinking that if we were feeling like this then how must Emma and his immediate family be feeling right now- it is devastating news. Neil was a fantastic person, kind, thoughtful, fun loving and we remember how he used to talk about his music with passion, his face would light up and he would get all animated. In fact he did just that the last time we saw him and he was telling us about his internet site and new releases. He clearly was a really talented guy and it just doesn’t seem fair to have such a great person taken away from the people he loves and those who so dearly love him. Our thoughts go out to you Emma and all the family, we are thinking of you lots and lots and just wish there was something that we could do. Rosie and Tony xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

@ Beavis - that tune is wicked. Its the "Trick Or Treat Feat. MC Tails" Remix of Let Me Be Your Fantasy from a few years ago. I snapped a copy up last week after I heard Oneman drop it on his show. There should be a few on discogs for under a fiver if you are after one. :edit: I'm really sorry - I got it wrong. The Trick or treat one I bought from Discogs arrived today and its different + has a slightly annoying vocal on it from the MC. I'll keep digging though and if I find the one you meant I'll be sure to let you know.

There should be a few on discogs for under a fiver if you are after one. Neil dropped that a few times just for me because he knew I loved it so much, he'd shout across from the decks 'Babe this is for you!!', I think he once sent Blazey out to the smoking area at Native once to get me because he was about to drop it for me! As I said before, our song by a mile was 'You got the love' by candi stanton, it was one of the first things we ever agreed on that it was both our favourites, and as I said, it was going to be the first dance at our wedding. I haven't been able to listen to it yet (like photos, youtube clips and mixes with his voice on, it's just too damn hard), but I'm so glad I have so many many tunes that will make me smile and think of him when I hear them x ps, people keep asking me how I'm being so strong... let's just say that other than friends and family support and cuddles, the white wine and valium are helping, so forgive me if I'm rambling.

Both Mandy and I are still shocked, as well as deeply saddened by what has happened. Neil was one of the first friends I made in Bristol and was genuinely one of the nicest people I've ever met. It's difficult to imagine life in Bristol without Neil enthusing over Soul Motive, new tunes, new artists, etc all with a massive smile on his face. His passion for music, as many people have commented on, was infectious and via the nights we went to or events we played at, it was clear that he had a love of what he did and what he played that I doubt many could match.
It goes without saying that our thoughts are with Emma and both families, words really can't do justice as to how sorry we are for your loss.

A real loss not only to his family and those closest to him, but to the whole music scene. Neil was a proper gentleman, and a top DJ who it was a pleasure to work with a few times. Not to mention he had impeccable taste in football teams! Very surreal to think he was in our front room the day before this happened, still a shock. Thought the tribute to him at Thekla on Sunday was very fitting, it's the best way to remember his life.

This is really really sad news, I really cant believe it! Neil was a top bloke, the last time I saw him was a few days after my Birthday watching the Spurs game at the Cat & Wheel.. he was always happy with a smile on his face and im very proud to of had him play at Empathy several times.
Its good to see everyone showing so much love for him and without a doubt Emma for being so strong during a very difficult time. I really hope your ok Emma, we are all here for you.

This is just absolutely devastating. Neil is an amazing guy, always smiling and full of energy. So welcoming, genuine and friendly. A massive raver with the most amazing taste in music. I feel very privileged to have so many wonderful memories of times spent with Neil. I think my favourite memory is when we were at Exit last year watching Dubway play. I remember Neil shouting at him to play Snake Eater, which was played as the last tune. Neil looked SO happy and excited - it was an amazing moment I also have fond memories from various Carnival parties (especially the one at Tao bar, that was down to Neil asking the barman if they could get on the decks - what a party!), many many raves and afterparties. He will be sorely missed as a friend and an amazing part of the Bristol music scene

It really was a great day The one the year before in the garden was epic too, i remember him just running about well excited, was a lush day and probably the way i will remember him. Staning near the decks with a huge grin on his face with the sun blazing and the dubstep rinsing!

When I found out about Neil's tragic death I was utterly shocked and saddened - I can't begin to comprehend how Emma and his family must be feeling. As has been mentioned already, Neil was one of the Bristol club scene's most friendly, open and fun-loving guys. He was a terrific DJ and a fantastic bloke. I didn't know him nearly as well as many people on here, but I always considered him one of the good guys. His passing is a great loss.
My thoughts go out to Emma and his family at this terrible time. We're all thinking of you.

I didn't know Neil, but i so wish i'd had the chance to have met him now, he obviously affected many people's lives and was an amazing guy.. I guess i'm a pretty emotional person - but reading all these tributes and especially your words Emma, has made me cry ALOT of times. Those that knew and loved him must be having such a hard time with it. Emma, i cannot begin to fathom your pain, but you seem to be handling it like an absolute rock. All my sympathies are with you, his family and friends

Been listening to a lot of music today, and through my tears I think Dusty Springfield has summed it all up pretty well today...
Didn't I make you feel Like you were the only man? Didn't I give you everything A woman possibly can? But with all the love I give you It's never enough I'm gonna show you baby That a woman can be tough So come on, come on, come on, come on
Take another little piece of my heart, now baby Break another little bit of my heart, now honey Have another little piece of my heart now, baby You know you've got it if it makes you feel good
Yeah, out on the street And you know deep down in your heart That ain't right I know you never never hear me When I cry at night
I tell myself that I can't stand the pain But when you hold me in your arms I say it again So come on come on, come on, come on and
Take another little piece of my heart, now baby Break another little bit of my heart, now honey You'd better have a another little piece of my heart, now baby You know you've got it if it makes you feel good

I just got back from India on Monday and this was some of the first news I heard within an hour of getting off the plane. I am truly, truly saddened and still can't comprehend this loss to the scene that we all love, and that he loved and put so much of his life force into. It's so strange for me as Neil was literally one of the last people I hung out with before I went away two months ago, me and some others met him on Stoke's Croft at god-knows in the morning and he had a massive bag of records on him as he'd just been playing a house party, standardly! We walked up to another party with him, and we just talked and laughed all the way and I remember thinking just what a genuinely all-round wonderful person he is and what a pleasure he was to have around, always with genuine support and interest. We had a mix together at the next party and there's no better way to remember him than that really, doing what he loved and with such a heart as we may never see again. I'm so glad that I got to see him in his element before I left. I've never been so sad to come back to Bristol, knowing that the city was missing one of it's best people. He will always be remembered by everyone who met him and his contribution to this city will always be felt. There's absolutely no doubt in my mind that wherever he is now he's still wrecking dances in his blue pimp suit.. Such a legend and such a loss

I also have fond memories from various Carnival parties (especially the one at Tao bar, that was down to Neil asking the barman if they could get on the decks - what a party!), many many raves and afterparties.
It really was a great day The one the year before in the garden was epic too, i remember him just running about well excited, was a lush day and probably the way i will remember him. Staning near the decks with a huge grin on his face with the sun blazing and the dubstep rinsing! That was my favourite of all St Pauls Carnival, I kept going to the other rigs, but the front garden was the best. I swear everytime I turned round Neil was back on the decks! I want to try and sort sumit similar again this year. But i think that year everything just fell into place for us! 121 sessions was awsome! This has to return again that St Pauls Carnival thing was crazy. I was soo piss when the police came and shut it down. I never knew neil at this time, but i know he musta been raving 'ard

Just wanted to say how sorry I am for your loss Pippin. Can't begin to imagine (and in fact, I really wouldn't want to try) what you are going through and how you must feel Sounds like he was an amazing guy. To say that life is unbearably cruel sometimes is a total understatement.

i hardly know where to start, firstly my thoughts are with his family, and girlfriend who i have never met but who has cleary given him allot of happiness. i first met neil threw promoting genetic and with him running a great night trisect in leicester he promoted with his mates, and from the first time i met him hes allways had a smile on his face, allways had a good point to make, a very passionate person in many ways specially music as u all know, i havent seen him for a few years to my regret but often thought of him and allways wondered if id bump into him whilts in bristol, in the few years i knew him he was a mate id speak highly of a very good dj, and most of all a very good person, he recommended me to replace him with his job as a teacher at leicester college when he left to go to bristol which i have allways been very thankful for, your a top block mate and when i think of u mate its allways u smiling and allways will keep raving mate where ever u are this pic really is the way ill remember him. I've just heard of this and it's really hit me hard. Neil was a brilliant guy and an awesome DJ. He had time for everyone and I remember having long chats and jokes at his place back when I lived in Bristol. He played my music out and I always enjoyed his sets I remember technicality in London with him, driving round London-endless memories.
I was only thinking of him the other day, as I was listening to 'Drum I up Landlord.' to get through a long bus journey-I've missed the chance to thank him for it now.
I send all my wishes out to those of you in Bristol, London and around the world who have lost this amazing guy.

So sad to hear. Wasn't a close friend, but it was always a pleasure to bump into him and for some of his cheer to rub off. My heart goes out to you Emma and to Neil's family and close friends

I was told about this on Friday night by a friend. Couldn't really believe it.
As many people have said one of the safest guys you could ever meet. A proper institution in the Bristol music scene too. I had lots of good times with him when I living in Bristol, whether at raves or bumping into him about town or at rooted records. I'll always remember the many fun times round Neil's for BBQs and stuff in the summer it was proper quality. Really friendly, lots of jokes, tasty foods, and quality music.
Its still not really sunk in to be honest. My thoughts go out to Emma and his family.

Trying to keep strong but since Saturday night (which was amazing) I've felt really low, I didn't think it was possible to miss someone this much or feel so lost. I just want to thank everyone again for all the messages of support and condolance, there has been so many, I just haven't been able to reply to all, but hopefully I will in time.

i was just on facebook and saw the REWIND party and thought to myself, 'what's Neil up to these days then?' fuck in my too few years in bristol i always remembered Neil fondly as someone you could always have a bullshit-free chat with. a standup bloke who could always be relied on to keep the party jumping whether behind the decks or in front of the speakers. he taught me so much about music and dj'ing just by watching the guy play, a true inspiration. those belmont road after parties were some of my favourite times in bristol, sitting in his music room and soaking up the vibes playing with tara. he was so sweet and sincere towards me after my sister died, it helped a lot at the time. i don't really know what else to say, except you bristol crew better rave your feet down to their bloody stumps at lakota! big ups neil, you're a fucking legend mate.

while i think of it, can someone please, please, PLEASE compile all of Neil's mixes into one place for people to download? i only have the Sludge I Up and the first Dub I Up ones, both have a permanent place on the iriver and it would be nice to have the rest to see what he was up to musically in recent times.

hey dude, have been working on this and am in the process of gathering CDs and rips from all over... there is a soundcloud dropbox for anyone to upload to which i check regularly. awaiting a few incoming files at the moment, i will post an update of compiled files when i have those. also, stealth has offered to help put these all on a proper server once gathered so they'll all be in one place, without adverts, download delays and such... for an instant fix, check this link to see some of the mixes out there currently, the details of the dropbox are in there too if you have any rare mixes to contribute: http://www.hijackbristol.co.uk/board/the-forum/call-for-re-ups-of-kymatiks-mixes/peace, cam edit: i have several conflicting "Dub i up" mix-files without version numbers, so if you or anyone else can spare the time I'd appreciate unambiguous 1 & 2 mp3s uploaded to the archive for verification...

Can't beleive it's been two whole weeks since Neil died. On the one hand it seems ages ago and on the other hand I'm amazed that I've got through two whole weeks already. I'm amazed at what has been achieved in this time, in terms of tributes, the immense rave, the funeral and the amount of care I have been given. Neil would be so proud of you all. On a certain level it still seems very unreal, and I keep thinking that I've had enough and I want the joke to be over now, but I guess the next part of the grieving process is coming to terms with everything and slowly moving forward. What is evident though is that I'm going to be kept pretty busy, and that his legacy is certainly going to continue.
I just want to thank all you lovely people once again for making so much possible and for giving me such support. I know Neil is smiling down and feeling the same - proud, honoured and very excited about his tribute night.

Please make sure you put yourself first and make sure you're not on your own for the fews days after the funeral, I'll be about as off work and I'm sure James etc will be to (big hugs). See you Tues hun x

cheers for that Baggy, reading that just choked me right up! lovely words by steve redux.
while i think of it, can someone please, please, PLEASE compile all of Neil's mixes into one place for people to download? i only have the Sludge I Up and the first Dub I Up ones, both have a permanent place on the iriver and it would be nice to have the rest to see what he was up to musically in recent times.
its already underway - a temporary spot on Soundcloud before being moved to a permanent server. Let me know if you need any help with hosting them.

Just been passed the link too this site and can only say I am blown away. I lived with Neil in Leicester for a couple of years, with so many memories flooding back it is impossible to take. Sadly, since moving away from Bristol (2 1\2 years ago) our paths in life had taken different turns and I had not been in contact. I always knew our paths would join again, this has not changed. It is no surprise to me to see the impact he has made in Bristol, having been a part of it in Leicester. His dedication to music and people, having fun and living life to the full has never changed. My thoughts are with Emma and Neil's family.

I'm an old old friend of Neil's - I spent a lot of time with him when he still lived at home with his family in Guildford. I heard about what has happened on Friday this week and have been unable to stop thinking about him since, so I figure he needs me to say something here...
As I said we used to hang out a lot when he was at home - we went to college together and there was a group of us from a little village in Surrey called Elstead who all got to know and care about Neil over the years we knew him. I haven't seen him for a few years, (since I freaked him out at a photograhy exhibition at Birmingham NEC that I knew he'd be at) - I've often tried to get in contact through old email addresses or searching for him on facebook unsuccessfully - especially since I had been working in Leicester for the last couple of years and I knew he'd been living there.
Neil was the person who got me into techno - until I met him I'd never really heard underground dance music - only mainstream. He would invite us round to listen to his new records and have a mix, or bring his decks over to mine if there was the possibility of a house party. To this day I don't know anyone with better taste in music and the ability to be the first person to introduce you to a wicked new and unique tune.
I've been walking around just shocked and feeling really sad due to the news, until I realised today that Neil didn't die, he reached what we all strive for - he got to the point where he had learnt everything he needed to in this life experience and has moved up to the next. The more I think about this the more I see how obvious it is.
Everyone has been stating how he was a lovely genuine guy and would do anything to help anyone, no matter how well he knew them - and he's always been like that - he was exactly the same 18 years ago - the fact that he's always focused on doing what he loves - making and sharing music and evoking the fellowship it brings out in people just shows me that he knew his path and rather than being distracted from it, he followed it, and we should see his moving on, rather than a negative thing, as a positive - he totally showed us the way - how to live life, focus on the love and sharing experiences without the negatives people often allow to get in the way.
And there certainly won't be any rest or peace where he is - just pure joy, love and freedom.
Neil.....thanks.....see you soon
love Dan
p.s. everyone here who was touched by Neil also helped him on his journey

I was absolutely devastated to hear that Neil had pasted away. I lost contact with Neil about 10 years ago, after he had moved to Leicester. I had been meaning to get back in touch with him for some time, but, with family and work distractions, I never got round to it. This saddens me to the core, especially now that I find out that he was living in Bristol as I moved here 5 years ago. I met Neil at Godalming College in 1990. We were in a terrible band together called ‘Lunatic Fringe’. The band did not last but our friendship did. He became a key part of the lives of mine and my friends in Elstead. We were a very tight unit. Many a long night smoking and talking the sort of crap that only stoned adolescence can. Neil was the most argumentative person I have ever met. You could never make a statement without having completely thought it through, He would tear you apart. I loved him for it. I was lucky enough to catch some of his sets in Leicester. He had a real gift, and love for music. I am so happy that he kept doing what he loved so much, and in the process touch so many lives along the way. He is going to leave a big hole. I look back on my friendship with Neil with such happy memories, truly good times, and the sad thought that I won’t be able to share a bottle of Merridown with him again. I will miss you man, Dickie

I didn't personally know Kymatik, I haven't been on these boards for a while but as a hijack user and bristol music fan, I would like to express my condolenses to his family and friends. Pip sounds incredibly strong through all of this, both Kymatik and Pip should be inspiration to us all.

This to Pippin-Drill,
I am so so sorry to hear about Neil, Brian (Trisect) told me last weekend and it floored me. My deepest condolences to you and his family (mum, dad etc). Although I haven't spoke to Neil for a few years now, he was a very very good and loyal friend up in Leicester. I think I met him through Brian at Uni and he instantly, being Neil, took me under his wing and introduced me to a whole new circle of friends and experiences. Brian and Neil also gave me one of my first photographic commissions which was to cover their tri-sect nights. He in particular was a a great source of confidence and inspiration in my early days, pushing me to get techniques/effects that I hadn't tried before. I'm hardly a Robert Capa, but I learnt so much covering their nights and he always pushed me further.
As a friend he was always fiercely loyal and passionate about everything he did, a real human dynamo. To hear that his charge has finally ran out is such sad news indeed. I'll definately be attending the leicester event and I'm going to see if I can make it down to Bristol for the big one. I can't hink of a more fitting way to honour his memory.
Shine on you crazy diamond.

Forgive the hippy quote but read a really nice paragraph in a book today that really got to me so I thought I'd share: 'Love is worth death. Love is worth life. My search for you, your search for me goes beyond life and death into one long call in the wilderness. I do not know if what I hear is an answer or an echo. Perhaps I will hear nothing. It doesn't matter. The journey has to be made.'

I have a few on my mac, I can burn CDs for people if they want to pop over with blanks. Can't believe it's four weeks today. Seems ages, and no time at all, all at once. Still missing him like crazy, but I think Neil would be proud of how well looked after I have been

Just to say Emma that I think that the way that you have been so strong through this, reminding everyone that a huge part of Neil's life was the people he loves/lives with/works with/goes raving with etc., and getting everyone who touched Neil's life involved with his final resting, and getting people to face up to death as a way of celebrating life is so commendable.
Too many people I know have been forced to keep a stupid "stiff upper lip" attitude adn not talk about the death of their loved ones, not give away their emotions and sense of loss, not visit the bereaved in case "it's not my place to go and see them, they must want to be with close family" etc etc. ffs everybody needs to know that there are peeps out there thinking of them, I really get upset with the tip-toey attitude to bereaved people, these are the same people as they were before! Maybe it's a UK awkwardness thing? Anyway really sorry Emma about ranting in this thread, just saying that I'm glad that yours and Neil's friends didn't think to keep a distance when you needed them most, and that says everything about friends and community that needs to be said.

I only met Neil twice and I could see straight away he was an inspirational person who loved his music. I am saddened to hear of his tragic passing at such a young age. My condolences to everyone who knew Neil a lot better than I did - he will be missed.

I talked to him a lot online (I'm in Brooklyn, so) and then met him when I came over last year. What a pleasure . So happy I got to meet the man in person, and was sick when I heard. I'd been hesitating to post cos I'm not really part of Bristol but. My thoughts and love go out to those around him. He was a great guy, great DJ, all about pushing the music. So much respect.

I moved to London a few years ago and therefore not really around the Bristol scene any more. I saw the email about the tribute night come into my email and I just wanted to pass on my condolences to all friends and family. I remember the name vividly from my time in Bristol.

Just to let everyone know, as many of you have asked me, that the postmortem results came back today. Unfortunately they have not been able to ascertain a specific cause of death, only that it was 'natural causes', just not what those natural causes were. As you can imagine this has come as a further blow as we are no closer to getting any answers. However, Neil's family ans I have decided that we want to proceed and have a full inquest next year. I'm not sure what this involves but we feel we want to explore every avenue available to us, hopefully one day, we will find out why this happened.
