Quote
First time a scatty crackhead bird walked through the front door and entered my room (first room on the ground floor). I was mixing some tunes and didn't hear her enter but in my peripheral vision I saw something and turned around. Fucking hell, that was horribly shocking! I fell back into my vinyl feeling terrified while she was completely still staring at me. It was like a scene from a horror film when a ghost kreeps up on someone. Then out of the blue, she said 'can I use your toilet'. still in shock I replied 'ok'. Thinking that I might be going mad and this was all happening in my head I called out for my house mate dave who walked in and shouted 'Jesus!'. We both walked her to the toilet where she took a 10min 'piss' then left without saying a word

The second time wasn't that interesting, just a rude boy we chased out of the house with a bat.

brilliant Laugh

Quote from: Evans
I think you could pick holes about living anywhere. I live in a place with a relatively low crime rate and near a really decent pub and decent links to both Bristol and Bath. It also has a couple of greengrocers, a butcher's, plenty of places to eat, newsagents, supermarket, leisure centre, park etc.

The only crime that was committed where you live is when they closed down the chocolate factory  Cry

I was looking at £250k - £750k price range when I was house buying 2 years ago,
That explains the dog shit. If you can't polish a turd then just move it to Montpelier.

I think the dog shit problem in Montpelier is revolting and a point all residents agree, maybe we should band together and see if something can't be done? There's also lots of dogs off leads. I'm sure it is worse than other areas for this.

Been done

Or varnish it and stick a painting on top and make a necklace out of it.

The council should be clearing up the shit, might be worth reporting the problem http://www.bristol.gov.uk/page/dog-and-animal-fouling

I contacted them about litter and a dilapidated billboard in my street and by the next evening they'd been and sorted both, I was impressed!

Yeah, because the council and tax payers should be responsible for filthy owners of filthy animals complete lack of personal responsibility and hygiene.  It's not like there are widespread cuts everywhere in the public sector; they should be setting up a 24 hour Picton St dogshit helpline.   Roll Eyes

I would love my tax to be spent on cleaning the streets. Last year Montpelier was awarded £48,000 to do something with Albany Park (in front of the Star and Garter), and instantly people started talking about street art and sculptures. How about spending that money on maintaining what is already there? Keeping it clean, a couple more bins (including recycling bins) and an extra street cleaner.

Also, while we're at it, how about involving the school? The kids from the Primary school are obviously the main culprits of all the pop cartons and sweet wrappers. How about going into the school and teaching the children about the importance of not littering and making the kids clear up all their rubbish so they get into the habit of not doing it.

This should be the responsibility of parent's, residents, teachers and users of the area, not the burden of the tax payer.  You can't legislate for personal responsibility.

Yes it should be, and if this was an ideal world it would be; but people aren't doing it.The council and residents put up signs and notices about dog muck and litter and people don't pay any attention. Kids are out there all the time without adult supervision and you try telling off someone else's kid for littering in the day and age. There are lots of lovely residents in Montpelier who I've seen get out there with bin liners and I bet they are tax payers as well. All I'm saying is that the council are great at wasting money on useless projects when money could be directed at more sanitation and street cleaning. That is what council tax is supposed to be for! They could bring more, and harsher, on-the-spot fines, but it would still need enforcing.

Maintaining the play area and keeping it clean would be a great idea. Last summer there were a few trampy-types who took up residents on matresses there as well. I felt a bit sorry for the kids trying to play while some piss head lay surrounded by filth in their playground  I'M SO ANGRY!

It's hard to explain to kids about littering when there are grown men laying in piles of beer cans and needles.

Could you not use the grown men surrounded by cans & needles as an example of what happens if you don't pick your litter up?  Bad Teeth

Hey dont shoot the messenger, the council say themselves its their responsibility to clear up the poo, and enforce dog fouling laws. So in response to your slightly sarcastic comment, yes, it is the council and taxpayers responsibility. That's why we pay tax to have a dog warden service is it not?

Ha, only two months ago I was telling you how you would love it here once you moved...woops.

I thought Upper Cheltenham was meant to be one of the smarter roads, although it is probably the least well lit so I can understand car crime. Montpelier is a mix, it's a bit of a draw with neighbours, they can be from both ends of the spectrums, either middle class families (young kids etc) or all the way to rented house with K heads. I live on Shaftesbury Avenue and it's chilled, I do get woken up by the odd fuck head crew waking though at silly hours, which I imagine as the summer comes in, will only get worse.

Dog shit - this is a problem. Parking is a pain in the arse.

My hope is as the summer rolls in you'll start to see the good parts of it and enjoy the vibe and brilliant location to the city and nightlife, I wouldn't say there are good restaurants in montpeiler but there are some near by, but some good pubs though! Plus I find I bump into so many people I know in the area.

I've had friends with problems of drugs in private front gardens..it sounds lame to do but they saw results by reporting it and shouting out the window etc and it did die down...although this is not a nice thing to have to do and can be intimidating. Sounds like you've witnessed some quite extreme events. If you can try and get a room at the back of the house hopefully you should not be disturbed by events from the streets at night.

You've got my number, come round for a mix some time.

The place is good I thinks but for vehicles you need your personal parking area to safe them.
