Anything suitable for a total beginner? A fucking unfit one at that lol
All classes are split experience wise so you wouldn't lumped with someone who's been doing it for years! we do cardio and a warm up in every class so your fitness will improve pretty sharply!

(only just started so not on the rota yet) Saturday is warm up then probably 1hr 45 of sparring! pretty full on but good conditioning! MMA - Mixed Martial Arts BJJ - Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (submission based martial art with no striking, teaches fighting on the ground and how technique can overpower bigger stronger opponents)

Any of them are good but the womens kickboxing may be better as a lot of the others are more based towards competing (We have an active team that regularly competes (and wins!) all over the country, we are one of the top ranked academies in the UK for BJJ and Pedro won the prestigious coach of the year award last year) with specific fitness to that style. Muay Thai is also fantastic conditioning and fitness wise and is worth a look but of you have no previous experience I would recommend trying the womens only class first.

Okay, I now permanently employed on north street so I may well swing by to do some sessions. I first need to increase my fitness and would rather train with a friendly face (lol) like yours Gareth. So what's good for fitness and what classes you at mate?

So what's good for fitness and what classes you at mate? Fitness wise, the MMA class on Monday we do a lot of drills and condtioning coupled with a fairly gruelling warm up, you can't go far wrong for fitness if you come to this class. Classes I got to are MMA Monday, BJJ Tuesday, Muay Thai followed by No Gi Weds and then MMA sparring Sunday followed by a bit more BJJ in the open mat session. Give me a bell if you want to come down Pete be good to get you there! (and armbar you until you admit dubstep is rubbish )

Used to do Muay Thai at Welshback & only a couple of times at St George. Before that did Kickboxing & Karate in Gloucester for a couple of yrs when i was living with ma folks. Also did a few months of MT with a dodgy Thai instructor who just stopped showing up one week & f'ed off with everyone's joining fees. Also did a day course with Bob Spour.
Quit the Muay Thai out of a combo of laziness & the instructor beating the shit out of me. I understand it's a contact martial art, but kicking me in the balls twice & giving me a nose bleed in 30 secs is hardly going to teach me anything besides "don't come back"!!
still, I do love Muay thai. My Dad's Luton side of the family r all bang into it & my cousin fights in the ring over there. 6'4" with a hell of a reach!

Tai Chi is an excellent entry point - you can always console yourself with the fact that it means "ultimate force" it is a little bit "ross kemp" if you know what I mean. Good Luck.

what's his name mate, does he fight amateur or pro? Robert somethingorother. Lame not to know his surname, but I hardly ever see the guy & he's my Dad's sister's kid, so will have a dif one to me. I assume he's amateur, there probably aren't too many pros in this country. BTW........ Everyone get urself's down to Sportsworld for some 70% off bargain gear. Just got Lonsdale bag mitts for £6 & a gum shield for £1!! There's bare cheap boxing stuff in there atm.

This sounds perfect. Have a punchbag at home which regularly takes a beating, but been put off classes as I don't want to compete....

It's not too hard for beginners, the classes will always be structured to cater for the different levels of abilities the warm up is pretty full on but nothing too full on.
