I am of the opinion that no genre should contain the prefix 'funky'. The only genre allowed to be 'funky' in any way is funk.

Aint Misbehavin @ Southbank centre, southville is always really good. A short 30 min lesson then dancing with all abilities afterwards, means you get to have a go with some really ace dancers to feel what its like to lindyhop properly even if you don't know what you're doing. So much fun. I don't go anymore because I'm rubbish though. Also, Sara "Sarajoy" on here, is really nice, and very knowledgable and amazing at lindyhop

I don't go anymore because I'm rubbish though. Also, Sara "Sarajoy" on here, is really nice, and very knowledgable and amazing at lindyhop Duder/dudette I was rubbish for ages before I got to what you reckon is amazing! It's all about muscle-memory, after a while your feet just hang on in there and you get more freedom to play - go back! Go! I Order You! JDO it's more difficult when drunk, like, but go for it Charlie did you go? Baker Boys were playing, a nice enough band but they're a bit twiddly/long-playing for dancers. David must be mates with them, as he keeps booking them, and they don't seem to take the feedback... Other bands we've had have been brilliant though! I thought I may as well paste in what I sent to Spalding in case it's of use to anyone else: "Totally! Two local options currently, Swing Dance Bristol or Hoppin' Mad (which from the thread it seems like you go to already), websites are here: http://www.hoppinmad.co.uk/ and http://www.swingdancebristol.com/ - they do 8-week beginner's courses, sadly the current one has started and is already fully booked. BUT I'd suggest carrying on with Graeme and Ann at HM in the side-hall, going to the Wednesday night Ain't Misbehavin' dances (they are aces, I should be DJing at the next one unless David's forgotten, the atmosphere is friendly++), and maybe signing up to SDB's next beginner's intensive weekender (26/7 Nov) - you're basically up and dancing comfortably socially after doing it! If you're happy at 'improver' level (post-beginner) then SDB run those on Thursday nights at 7pm." Jeez-louise I've not been to this forum in ages - how is everyone?

Truffle - ahhh, that's indeed one of the most impressive videos - always loved how crazy and random it looks until they manage to dance in unison towards the end. That dancing group is called Whitey's Lindy Hoppers, they were amongst the inventors of the dance in the Savoy ballroom in Harlem in the 30s and started to perform for big Hollywood movies (though still being treated like 2nd class citizens, being black and all). The musicians to begin with are Slim and Slam.
Sorry, it's early and I felt like convincing myself that I know something!

We often get people from those dance groups at Night Train as we play lots of Rhythm and Blues..they stick out head and shoulders above everyone as dancers..the guys always look so confident and the girls always look lovely... Night Train is the third Friday of every month at the Big Chill https://www.facebook.com/groups/155997801131651/Shameless plug but we would luuuurve more of those dancers to come down

No problem, despite being rather too busy in life at the moment to actually do as much dancing as I'd like, I seem to be a bit of a social secretary for Bristol dancers, running a blog and facebook page etc. - so if any of you lot have things you want to target at the blooming swing dance population of Bristol, let me know
