I'm quoting it as it's bound to be changed soon.  Laugh

Kosheen were originally touted as a live drum & bass band - two of the members were producers of nondescript techstep set-filler before starting Kosheen as a way of making money out of fuckwits. Their single 'Hide U' was a crossover hit and also caned by Grooverider around the time he got a show on Radio 1 and stopped championing interesting music. It's without merit but remains by far the best thing they've ever done. They played their first gig at Ashton Court festival during which they displayed their true colours as a band who would play literally any style of music as long as their agent thought it might get signed up to appear on an advert. Their singer is one of those unpleasantly driven self-styled hippies who seem to be drawn from all corners of the globe to Bristol and the West Country. She is renowned in Bristol for turning up at free jam sessions and taking them over with her poweful yet charmless foghorn of a voice. They were personally responsible for killing Bambi's mother and all the little rabbits in Watership Down. They name their albums after endangered native populations in order to sell more records to people with confused consciences and no taste in music. They borrow elements from seemingly random styles of music (eg. "heavy" guitars, trancey acid lines, soppy breakbeats) in the most knuckleheaded and obvious way possible, using them to window dress the terrifying creative vacuum at the heart of their work. They were big around the time we started Choke and provided a suitable, if somewhat arbitrary, target for our ire at the way fashionable musical forms and other cultural signifiers are co-opted as Pavlovian buying triggers for dehumanised lifestyle whores.

Everyone from Bristol hates on anyone thats ever successful from Bristol. If they were still playing at Native every two weeks and you could get in for a fiver you'd all still be sucking on their nutsack and saying they're infinitely better than whatever London-based equivalent was the press darling at the time. Fact IMO!!!!!!!!!!!!!111111

Never heard the Ting Tings, but with a band name like that who needs to.  EDIT: just did some research and found out that I have heard them and they are responsible for one of my current pet hate songs.

Don't be a prick mate I was only making an observation. And it wasn't necessarily directed at anyone in the thread, more a comment on the wiki article in the OP. Plus there are numerous examples. Nobody ever said Banksy was shit until he was popular in the media. Well, except Harry, he said it. Probably out of jealousy.  Bad Teeth

Also, the Ting Tings..... If I hear that damn wench say "thats not my name" one more time I might die.

They're generalisations. There's a difference between imaginings and generalisation. Generalisation tends to be rooted in truth. And "sucking on their nutsacks" is a metaphor for "appreciating them and expressing this fact publically".

Ooh, you bitch. Not into Kosheen's music myself but the guys involved seem sound chaps. Darren Decoder lives in a very nice house in some Somerset village. Can't remember the name. Took me ages to find when I went to do an interview with him last year. Amiable sort of chap  Two Thumbs

The singer is a plebian - she was in E-shed I while ago giving it the large one, when she barged past me and Rogue...

When we gave her the frosty face, she turned around, gave it the "do you know who I am??" speech.

To which Rogue said "yes, you're that cunt from Kosheen".

She fucked off, thankfully.

well measured.

'go' is a tune but it has to either be the original or the trentmoller mix for me (subjective personal choice). though i hold no prejudice against dnb, just not my bag since i was about 20.

always thought the name sounded like a cleaning product too. 'loos and sinks gleam with kosheen'.

Well hold on to your hat because even more shocking I rate the Way Out West mix of Catch even more.

Although a certain local producer who has done a certain reworking of a certain tune has certainly got my vote as the best version of that certain tune.

Looking at their myspace they seem rather popular in Europe and Australia and are most likely making oodles of money, thus negating the requirement to give two tugs of a tramps todger what any of us spacktards in the internets think.

Yup, saw lots of posters for a gig in Krakow when I was there a few weeks back- my dance-music-novice mate asked "are they any good, should I go?" and I couldn't quite decide what to say.

Everyone's missed my subtle pictorial admission that that was bait. Bait that everyone's taken angrily.  Grin

Seriously, for a start most peoples still loves Roni Size. And Massive Attack. And I, for one, love Way Out West. And I've got mates who love Kosheen, although I could do without them myself.

I think offing your mates just because they like Kosheen might be taking things a step too far.

True. True. If the punishment for liking Kosheen is death I'd have to think of some fate far worse than death for the next person who tells me they like The Wombats. Dancing to Joy Division indeed.

I never got into Kosheen either, bit too flowery for me.

Looking at their myspace they seem rather popular in Europe and Australia and are most likely making oodles of money, thus negating the requirement to give two tugs of a tramps todger what any of us spacktards in the internets think.
OK, seeing as they aren't listening...they suck. Music for your "cool" mum.
