The genre I've most enjoyed whilst using ketamine to date has curiously been classical music. It made for a beautiful combination.

I've gotta say Reynolds has missed the point countless times in that article, which is a shame because he is (was?) a brilliant writer and, perhaps more importantly, he helps to command a lot of opinion.

It's quite depressing really.

In what way? I only read it quickly but I thought it was a good article. However I have limited experience of ketamine and dubstep so maybe I'm missing something?

Script He's made a potential link that sounds pretty plausible. He's bypassed the whole ketamine is bad thing, but that wouldn't have made such a good article IMO.

some good (but obvious) points in that article but on the whole it's shit lazy journalism. his claim that k is driving the direction of dubstep or 'wonky'  Doh! makes me laugh - you could say the same thing about smack driving the direction of downtempo or chillout music. clearly not true.

k is just another drug that people use at raves, it aint revolutionary and its been around for fucking ages. i wish people would get over it

Have you actually read the article mate? He goes on to say that ketamine isn't driving the scene, but it has found it's place there, much like ecstacy in the 90's rave scene. He quite clearly points out that he doesn't believe K to be driving the direction of dubstep, but that the experience of ketamine use suits the music of dubstep to an extent where it has become almost synonymous with it.
It's a journalistic technique - make a bold and controversial assertion in the opening paragraph, then spend the rest of the article weighing up the pros and cons of the argument.

But yeah - interesting article. I wasn't aware of "Wonky" as a genre, but it doesn't seem like my preferred type of dubstep.

And Bass Box Girlie is famous too  Tomato Slayer! (I read that quote and wondered who it was from - for a moment I thought it was something I might have said, although it seemed a little more eloquently put Tongue

there certainly is no similarity between dubstep/ketamine and ecstasy/80's+90's rave music - k just has a similar feel to the sounds of dubstep - e's actually did drive and shape that scene. without ecstasy 'rave' would not exist

I stopped after the first couple paras - it is way to early imao for headz to start offshooting from dubstep.
Respect the pioneers and stop setting up stupid little joke genres.
That is all.
Oh, apart from Simon Reynolds and Everett True got me to buy quite a lot of music I didn't even want at the time when I used to read Melody Maker so they are both good writers and there was this really funny time when Reynolds went to meet The Beastie Boys and they totally dissed him because of how he looked (steam punk/gay).
Looks like we will be stuck with this "No publicity is bad publicity" ethos for time.
Don't worry about anything you write on Hijack...in a couple of years you won't even care.
