Just in case anyone has skipped the first post, and the second, and glanced down here first, be it by accident or on purpose, I feel it my duty to inform you, before you look back up and read what has come before, to brace yourself: this thread contains insightful critique.

Wrote American Psycho amongst over books. American Psycho is a great book The Informers is also a great book, it was turned into a film, but didn't make much impact here. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0865554/ I've not seen it, but I'm curious to see how a bunch of short stories can be made into a film. American Psycho is a great book also. I recently re-read Less than Zero, which may also be re-made, rumour had it that Tarantino was going to do it, but nothing further seems to have happened, so I imagine it is just a rumour. I really like the original film. I've seen some of Rules of Attraction, but never got all the way through it. I liked the fact that it has that guy form Dawson's Creek in it, playing a qunt.

Yeah go for it. It's one of my favourite "what the fuck is the point" books. It's not very long either so you won't feel like you've wasted too much time if you don't like it.

the sequel to less than zero is on its way. american psycho is very good, i think less than zero is overrated and is certainly no gatsby. however catcher in the rye is much better than all of these

I haven't read it since I was 12/13 or so, but I remember it making me feel weird for about a week after I finished it. Might not have quite the same effect now that I've been roundly desensitised by the internet.

The book isn't particulary well written, but Brett Easton Ellis was still at college when he wrote it. I like the vapid subject matter. Brett Easton Ellis uses characters from one book and moves them into the next book, but not in a sequel way, the books have no relation to each other, just some people pop up in them, like Sean Batemen in Rules of Attraction, who's brother is the central character in American Psycho and Sean turns up briefly in that book.

I read it when i was in my early twenties and i thought it was a pretty good read...i liked Holden Caulfield and while nobody gets there lungs ripped out it is a good tale..very similar in feel to the Great Gatsby..evocative of an era
"when a body sees a body coming through the rye"
trouble with young people today is that they are cunts

Well I've learned something today.... According to the content of his twitter feed Brett Easton Ellis is the world's most boring, morose, midly homophobic douche-bag. Never read any Sallinger. Its got that whole link with serial killers, which makes a lot of people go "ooh it must be all deep and moody if it makes people kill". Whereas in reality this book tends to come highly recommended by self-absorbed, miserable little fucktards like Timothy McVeigh. So I figure its a book for cunts.

Haven't read it since I was a teen but remember thinking Catcher was an amazing book.
American Psycho also great altho I did find myself skipping thru the lengthy descriptions of what shirt, jacket, tie, tie clip, etc everyone in the office was wearing after the first few times...

I guess it's probably only good when you're a teenager (and you'd probably need to think you're intelligent and/or emotionally self-obsessed), fixed FIXED Can anyone show me a teenager in Britain that isn't self-obsessed? Dead ones. Oh and those really fucking pious methodist christian ones who've had the upbringing from hell. But they'll get theirs, when they turn from "perfect" children to roaring fucking cunts of adults.

Don't even joke - my cousin has just turned into the most tedious, evangelical christi-anus ever - she's 19 and just gone to uni, joined some religious club and gone bananas. EVERY conversation apparently descends into "you're all sinners and you're going to hell unless you see the light of the lord" - even to my grandparents!

Fucksocks. As a wise man once said to me, you can't reason someone out of a position they didn't reason themselves into. Fortunately you can ridicule them to the rest of the family whenever their back is turned. edit: whats the crack? Is she hot? Cos maybe I could fix her for you.
