Sorry got a wee bit confused- it can open immediately as long as Mel doesn't appeal the decision (which he's not)

The upstairs needs to be reviewed by the fire service so he'll probably have to sort it out before he can use it.

So, to clarify, he should be able to reopen immediately but only with the main room and only til 3am.

Just hope promoters are still up for using it.

Good news indeed but sadly I think the restricted opening hours will hinder trade somewhat when there are other venues with a similar capacity open until later  Cry

Might help the smaller DJs who play early on.

The evening post reckons one of the conditions of them opening is that they won't play ragga though, while I'm sure this will be ignored if its true it's one of the wrongest things to be passed by the council ever.

Good work all, nice to see it opening again!

T'is a shame about the 3am close tho, obviously better than being shut completely, but 4am would have hit the middle ground nicely.  Undecided

Script
they tried to introduce a rule in some parts of london recently banning bashment and grime nights and it got overturned because it was so wrong... surely they can't do this?

Unfortunately I've already got plans afoot (hopefully with an even bigger line up than New Years!) at a different venue but we will return to the Swan...

Also think there are nights already booked in for jan which will prob still be going ahead.

I think Mel also wants to do a free event at some point to thank people for the massive support he's received.

It sometimes happens. I remember the ban on Drum & Bass nights in Manchester during the 'Gunchester' days.

I remember when club UK was closed down after the shooting I wrote:
The thing with club uk is the name. It sounds like “club racism”. If only they’d called it “club planet” or “club together” I doubt there would be this problem today.

Now we’re here:

...* People have been glassed or attacked with bottles but police said none of the victims have pressed charges.
* There was also evidence that a gun was produced and waved around on one occasion, although it was not discharged.
...

The thing with the black swan is the name. It sounds like “the racist swan” etc etc…Gunsmoke on the horizon?

All the best clubs have an overt inclusive policy – Bristol isn’t that fresh yet and that name attracts racist morons like a fat man eats pasties. What if there is a fatality?

If certain cerebrally controversial individuals hadn’t graffiti’d the racially segregating name all over the side of the pub he would have probably changed it by now – Mel’s quite a cool guy. Mod the graff on the side of the building and he’ll change the sign/name and then it might even get its really late license back.

This swan is way flyer, like the Prodigy, Smith & Mighty and Full Cycle spectrum.  NERD ALERT!

ya know, even though that night was full of names a lot of people might not know, it looked fucking wicked, proper decent shiz, but unfortunately it seems to have been cancelled, gutting.

Seriously though, thanks for the support, it was duly noted during the hearings.
