i know this thread is in here somewhere but the search function is broken blah blah blah Film: The secrets in their eyes - best film i've seen in last 6 months, epic, affecting, stunningly shot and acted. the stadium scene is Before the devil knows you're dead - Sidney Lumet's last film with very strong performances accros the board. Bleak but thrilling Serpico - One of Pacino's and Lumet's slightly lesser seen ones, but no less brilliant Ip Man - Fun time chopsocky action about the guy who taught bruce lee (i have the sequel lined up, can't wait) TV: West Wing - I'm very late to the party on this one but loving it so far (in series 1). Much funnier than expected Sons of Anarchy - Cheesy but fun motercycle gang drama which features the epic craggy features of Ron Perlman Psychoville - Series 2 is matching up to series one, the Tina Turner bit was too much 30 Rock - newest season keeps up the high standard of lols Looking forward to watching Treme season 2, Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad when it is back on in July

Skipping all the obvious stuff I can wholeheartedly recommend Parks & Recreation, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Community and Terriers (even though it got canned after one season it is a tremendous show and well worth watching).

Good call on the West Wing - for me it was the start of the epic drama series, and the writing is impeccable. If you make it much further than Series 4 however then you're a braver man than me. The politics suddenly bceome rather more difficult and Sorkin's not involved quite so much. Regardless, enjoy the ride There's not much new on that I'm into at the mo. Was getting into Sopranos S1 but got sidetracked - must find the box sets of that as I was really enjoying it. Have also d'loaded Spiral which I need to get my teeth into too.

I did it the other way round, I didn't realise how good it was until about 12 episodes into the first season then started watching it properly, I find the schmaltz is regulated by metacommentary on said schmaltz. If you're looking for pitchblack humour with zero message you want It's Always Sunny.

I've been enjoying The Shadow Line, it's on BBC2 at the moment, been 3 episodes out of 7 so far. Only watched it because it was being compared to The Wire... but it's nothing like it. Much more stylized in terms of dialogue and how it's shot, but it's still good.
Bit more trashy but also been watching The Event on C4... it's all pretty silly, but quite good fun.
Am I the only one who thought Breaking Bad wasn't all that? Got about half way through series 2 and kinda gave up. It's not bad by any means, I just found I didn't care enough about either of the main characters to stick with it.
Next things I want to check are Game of Thrones, Sons of Anarchy (although isn't that blonde twat from Green Street the main guy? That kinda puts me off) & Fringe. I also need some new comedy!!

It gets even better in season 2 once Danny Devito joins the cast. Yeah, Frank really makes it! Once you get into the babbling dialogue and start to get to know the characters, Always Sunny is pretty damn funny. Also, if you're into your cartoons I'd recommend Archer

Am I the only one who thought Breaking Bad wasn't all that? I think you might be. I thought BB was fucking genius - the end of Series 2 was one of the darkest pieces of TV i've ever seen, and some of the storylines in S3 are utterly wonderful. It's definitely in my top 5 shows of all time.

I found Lucy the daughter of the Devil on the net the other day. Funny Jon Benjamin cartoon that was on Adult Swim a few years ago.
Got Who's the Caboose? coming on DVD, which could be intersting and I was watchin the "sequel" to it called Pilot Season, which is on youtube in many parts.
I've consistently missed the second series of Archer on 5*, but I enjoyed the first season, so will try to get to see it.

In critical terms its certainly top three. In terms of my taste, enjoyment and preference its firmly in the top spot. Rewatching it entirely in the last few weeks in anticipation of season 4. Just got up to where Gus comes into it last night. Phenomenal viewing, even on the second/third watch.

Question: If you're watching a film with the Japanese translation written vertically, are they called sidetitles (assuming they're written down the side)? P.s. I'm aware Japanese can be written both horizontally and vertically

Kind of fucks the film up a bit as they're savagely pasted over the top of the film and take up about 1/5 of the screen.

Whoever is in charge of the promotion/distribution for this film really should've been fired, because the posters make it look absolutely fucking DIRE. It was only when I found out it was directed by Joe Cornish (I think, or Adam Buxton?) that I opened up to the possibility of going to see it. Pretty sure I'm not the only one to have made such a 'book-by-its-cover' judgement about it either.

We just decided we wanted to go to the cinema and that was the most appealing option.

There was two threads about "Attack the Block" on here.
I'm afraid I don't read every thread, and I'm not a huge tv/film person so those threads are easy missed for me.
