I took the friday off and packed the mrs off to her brother's the weekend it was released and put in a solid 55 hours that weekend....was playing it for a couple of months after that too - fantastic game. Once I'd got to level 50, completed all main and guild missions and got all xbox achievements I decided to knock it on th ehead until some DLC arrived. I've been exceptionally busy with all things Bloc but after this weekend I'm ready to become a Dawnguard and lose my life to Skyrim once more...

I found it quite boring. After hacking up a couple of dragons nicking some stuff for the thieves guild, I found myself spending most of my time managing my carry weight and dropping enchanted items in the middle of underground dungeons.
I have no idea whats going on story-wise, the AI is terrible and it's pretty glitchy.
People go on about MW3 being MW2.5, well this is just Elder Scrolls 3.11

I found myself spending most of my time managing my carry weight
difficult thing to implement. realism of not wanting to allow a player to hoover up every item in the game world. but you cant make the play drop their 80kg burgen every time they want to fight a realistic rucksack would have enough space for a few basic tools and some food and potions. No ability to carry 200 bronze tipped arrows etc etc. They could have made it that to recoup health you have to eat, rest and tend wounds but the realism factor would make it like a LOTR Arma2 mod. Had the same issue in witcher2. Too many crafting components that are hard to find, you just have too much dross in the inventory - zero weight mod sorted that. Kingdoms of amalur had a much better inventory

Please no flaming, this is a serious question!! Is Skyrim worth playing? I absolutely loved Fallout 3/NV and general RPGs/strategies such as WoW etc. But I want to be able to play a few hours here and there without losing my life. Is this possible? Fallout certainly ate about a month of my life and I cant afford to spend that much time! Skyrim seems the way to go but if I literally have to spend hours setting my stats and inventory / sorting my bags for weight and space - every time I play before every quest then thats too much. And the weight issue everybody is mentioning is putting me off. If anyone can answer my questions it would be much appreciated! Cheers

Personally, I think calling games like this a "masterclass" and "One of the best games ever" is nonsense. As consumers we should be demanding more. Problem is, the secret is out that there's money in games, so it's all about drip-feeding a loyal and conditioned market. FML.

Carrier command
Having 'acquired' most AAA titles this year its one I paid up early for and got beta access.
Was my favourite game on the atari ST and it is just the same. Obviously its on steroids but the key strategic elements are there.
If they made piracy impossible I would probably enjoy games more

I think you're right, at least one of the big game studios could cmoe out with an ULTIMATE title, but then what would come next? where would the next money spinner come from if you couldnt top the original?! Saying that a few smaller studios are moving in interesting directions. Anyone played 'Dear Esther'? Some people say you cant call it a game but personally i think its one of the most interesting developments in game criteria in years. Essentially an experience, and an incredibly well constructed one at that. I look at it like a book that I essentially write myself in my mind as Im guided by the atmosphere and ambiguous settings provided. Not many games can do that!

I got bored of Skyrim very quickly, i thought the combat was dull, especially playing as a mage, and didn't want to spend most of my time walking around places. having said that if you're looking at the PC edition there are thousands of mods now so its probably worth giving it another shot.

Not bought, or even looked at any new releases on PS3 for about 8 months. What should I be buying? Please don't say Skyrim - I have a degree to start and that game will take my life for the next year if I buy it.

Went to this on Saturday: http://www.rezzed.com/Borderlands 2 is fucking great, looks to be everything the first should have been. Also: Far Cry 3 played brilliantly, really enjoyed the weirdness of it all, even if it's perhaps trying a bit too hard to be "insane". Got to play Aliens: Colonial Marines multiplayer too, it's awesome. So many cool little indie games too: Prison Architect is wicked, it's like theme hospital but you're building and managing a prison. Antichamber is loverly puzzle trippy madness. Watched a wicked talk by Day Z creator, and another by the Prison Architect creator. Hotline Miami: Top-down brutal shooter with DOS-style graphics. Well dark and a bit like Alien Breed or Loaded if you remember them, but crossed with a more murderous Vice City ( http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-07-03-hotline-miami-brutal-bizarre-retro-a-bit-like-the-original-gta ). It's really getting on now to be honest, I've been surprised that I can run any modern games at all; I've got a 2.2Ghz AMD 64 4200, 4GB RAM, NVIDIA 9600 GT running WIndows XP Pro 64. It was good when it was young but it ain't a baby anymore, they grow up so fast.

Moving house this month means I definitely can't afford an upgrade, plus my job pays me shit all. One of these days I'll be a real person with a real salary (at least I write about games for a living though).

Writing about games without a gaming rig - can work sort you out? Just checked your rig against specs, you should be able to play it.

I'm kind of a black sheep at the company working for a particular client and my company won't do much to help me in my games writing in the way of financial aid. I have an Xbox but I don't get the usual computer games journo shit you would if you were working at a proper magazine company or suchlike (i.e. free games, chance to play them at work etc). Odd job really but there's hardly a plethora of games journo jobs out there right now it seems. Future Publishing hasn't been doing too well of late and they're the main candidates for that kinda thing, especially round here.

I have one of these, a Samsung Core i7, and I have to say it is outstanding. £900, and it chews through everything I throw at it, Skyrim included. Very recommended

So I just thought I'd encourage people to buy/get back into Skyrim.
I got bored of my fighter around lvl 40, so started again with a mage, and I've made it to lvl 40 again, but haven't done any of the quests I did in the first run through. That is ridiculous. This game is enormous!!
And I'm erect right now thinking that they'll be on Fallout 4 soon

Hmmm, Deus Ex sequel was pretty good, and judging by the footage, this might live up to the original.
Fuck, no one else is even trying, so I'll give it a go

Hopped on the bandwagon, but couldn't get a decent enough connection

Warp radio.
Really good pc port (apart from a micro stutter issue)
