Aye! I remember that, was a Dig Deep, with ThinKing and Toasty if I remember right? Was ace, though SLT were the worst MCs ever! Just kept mumbling "straight from the gutter, straight from the sewer" Doh!

Was the first Dubstep night not Pinch's first? Context or something...?

Pretty sure the first 'proper' dubstep night would have been Context at the Thekla, but arguably it might have been Hot Flush's night a few years ago - although I didn't live here then.

Hotflush's nights ran in 1999 and 2000, but were'nt strict dubstep AFAIK? The flyers from those events are in the Byte thread.

First dubstep nights were Context at Timbuk2 (it was the 1st Subloaded @ Thekla) and Pinch playing dubstep early in the evening at Vertical Sound nights at the Arc bar. Im fairly sure this is correct, Diccon might correct me tho  Wink

The first actual dedicated dubstep night was subloaded in sep 04. Context used to play electronica, jungle, techno etc as well

I know cos i was there at all of them pretty much with about another 5 people who were feeling it  NERD ALERT!

Preceeding that were odd garage nights here & there occasionally playing darker stuff ie Hotflush Andy mentioned.

First night to focus on dubstep was Context, although it featured a load of other styles - mostly drum n bass... Reckon the first night I can remember that was *strictly* dubstep was Subloaded.

edit : oh i see Tim already said all that  :belm:

Yeah that was the one, i thought that night was context for some reason. That was my first taste of dubstep, dragged a few friends with me but they hated it!. I think i ended up dancing with about two other people on the dance floor, was one of them you?.

I was at the first Context at Timbuk2. It was well early in T2's development. Wasn't that well attended from memory, but the music was ace.

yep, I drove down from Leicester to play at that night, or at least one of the early ones...! Big up Rob! It was the 7th August 2004 (I'm staring at the flyer Wink ) Rob, Peverelist, Blazey, Rit and myself all played. I came down with a couple of mates (and yes doubled the number of people in there but thats not important!) Right from the off Rob was a man with a wider vision for things.

I was trying to think what the first dubstep night I went was. It was definitely a context but it might have been the one at the croft? DMZ was like a month after~! Cannae remember.

First strictly Dubstep night (All emphasis on Dubstep) has to be Subloaded 1 @ Thekla

Was a big night, very proud of the amount of people that attended  Slayer

(ThinKing posting on Carly's account)

hahaha, the first ever proper dubstep nite to my recollection was the Context with Loefah & Cyrus b2b @ Timbuk2.

I played a few dubstep sets out well before that in 2003/early 2004, the first of which would have been at Getsome down at Level, and also the first Electrical Beauty at Level.

God seems so long ago, the music and the Bristol scene has come a long way since then. Love
