Does anyone know anything about them?

My mate from london just rang, said he'd just bought two 600W speakers off the back of a lorry for £200, specifically dst-303's, has he been mugged?  Undecided

He's been mugged.

I can't find the thread on Sound on Sound, but this scam has been going on for years. The speakers are usually £30-50 sold because of an "error in the order, means we've got an unaccounted pair, going cheap"

Just reading the article it says that they often set up fake sites etc. to try and  convince the mark... I myself would have serious doubts about it - but good luck!

Well google has no results for any company called Definitive Sound Technology. All other places selling these are ebay or craigslist with claims of the US selling them at $1000 etc, but with nothing to substatiate it. The Sound on Sound thread had details that the internal workings of some ofthes white van speakers were just cheap rubbish, but I guees the proof will come when the guy gets them home and trys them out.

http://www.definitivetech.com/about/about.html

But they don't have a range abbreviated as DST, they don't have the word "sound" in their name and there is no DST-303. Methinks a scam has occured.

He's been done by the speakermen, check their international facebook group:

http://www.new.facebook.com/group.php?sid=e6e59dc4786c0e0dd9dc6ce471f28e3a&refurl=http://www.new.facebook.com/s.php%3Fq%3Dspeaker%2Bwhite%2Bvan%26n%3D-1%26k%3D400000000010%26sf%3Dr%26init%3Dq%26sid%3De6e59dc4786c0e0dd9dc6ce471f28e3a&gid=2495927579

The speaker name is new, but the components will be the same shit they put in all of them.

I have been approached by speaker scam blokes a couple of times in Bristol, they tend to appear at the same time as the new students - good, not very honest pikeys trying to earn a wage, people are too hard on them. You are a dumb fuck if you buy anything off them though.

This scam is like 15 years deep, at least. Mind i havent seen them go out the back of a van for a while, not with ebay and such these days.

But, it is freshers - lots of folk in fresh digs with a grant to blow on having a system - expect to see more about.

Yes Definitive Technology are a home cinema company and they're not cheap, but I sincerely doubt that the van speakers are from this company.
