I've learnt two things.

1) stereotypes exist for a reason
2) someone claiming to be at the 'cutting edge' fails to see that the word 'Crack' is associated primarily with Crack Cocaine

I thought the new Krispy Kreme store in town as the pinnacle, but Hijack has come with the goods yet again and this thread has turned sweeter than any sugar-based fried snack could ever be.  Cheesy

Krispy Kreme's aren't fried. They are baked.

There's always been a dig at people who went to private school, which I've never understood. Firstly, you go to the school that your mum and dad decide on, you usually have very little say in the matter; secondly you can bet that if you had the money and the local comp wasn't up to scratch you'd send your own little offspring to one. What school you go to doesn't make you a tosser, being a tosser makes you a tosser.

Growing up in an environment full of spoiled rich wanker kids when you yourself are a spoiled rich wanker kid reinforces the notion that it is OK to be a spoiled rich wanker kid. Worst case scenario what you end up with is Gideon Osborne. And I don't care what anyone says, being Gideon osborne is not cool.

lol really man u cant blame someone for growing up...
do you blame starving kids in africa for growing up in a malnurished area? i mean who do they think they are thinking its ok to be starving?

I don't blame the individual. I'm saying if I was the parents I don't think I'd send the youngins to a private school. The notion that thats what everyone would want for their kids is wrong, imo. Everyone wants the best for their kids, some people have a differing view of what best really is.

Once again commenting through assumptions. My parents worked really hard to send me to a private school, because I had learning difficulties they thought it might benefit me to have smaller classes and a bit more academic pressure. There were many girls at my school who's parents sacrificed a lot to do the same for various reasons. It's not like we all turn around at 11 and say Mother I demand to learn Latin and wear a stupid uniform!!

As adults I find very little difference between me and friends who have gone to private school and friends who went to state schools, most do similar jobs and have similar outlooks on life.

And again what I said was public schools don't have [imo] an adequate cross-section of kids from different classes and backgrounds, so if you live a posh life and go to a posh school you only know posh and can only be posh. You weren't posh, and so got your fair share of social balance in your life outside of school. For many kids school is the only exposure they get to different classes and people from different walks of life and as such I feel that many kids would benefit from exposure to so-called "real life" in a mainstream school. I certainly don't mean you and I hope you understand what I'm saying now.

Wow...what a difference a blog makes. We aren't at all precious about our little mag, but really shocked by the level of random distaste from a few people who've never met us (us being a group of people from all ranges and backgrounds) and felt it needed documenting. Which is why you're all welcome in Crack Towers for a Nescafe...oh sorry...Columbian filtered and a bourbon biscuit...sorry...Swiss chocolate. Then we can discuss the cultural demographic of all our schooling.

Has anyone seen this article on Ryan and Russell Oliver in Crack.. I saw it t'other day.

perfect example of featuring slightly risque art in this graffiti saturated city. Its pretty fucking dark but definitely something new. really good article actually,  I cant decide whether the art is amazing or just disturbing but it did make me question the ethics of fashion photography.  worth looking at...

http://www.youlovecrack.com/article/158/russell/ryan-oliver

firstly - blatant self-promo!

anyway I don't see what the "graffiti saturated city" has to do with the studio/gallery art of the Oliver brothers. graffiti isn't part of the 'cultural' scene. graffiti isn't for sale and isn't selling anything, and there's more to it than aesthetics or creativity. (when done properly, it costs nothing to do - I can see how a modern 'lifestyle' magazine would struggle with the concept of not paying for stuff.) it's an apples and oranges scenario: compare gallery art to gallery art.

lastly, Milk is not a graffiti writer in any shape or form. just another typical Bristol scene wastrel. Laughing

Depends on the school tbh. My sister went to a private/public/non state comprehensive school (in Bruton) because she passed a scholorship and didn't have to pay, otherwise she wouldn't have gone as my folks could never have afforded it. I got offered a scholorship with a another school in Bruton Kings I think it was but declined to go as I wanted to go to a school where I knew people, so went to a comprehensive. Many of my sisters friends were also on a scholorship and didn't pay to go, they were there on their academic merit. Likewise my comprehensive school had many rich kids that were not academically able to attend private school but where from much more wealthy families than kids that went to private school.

Think you have made a little bit of a sweeping generalisation here noodle that all private schools are filled with rich kids, which wasn't really the case when I and probably you went to school. Top tier fee paying schools yes you are probably right but not all non-state schools are full of rich kids. If my kids could get a scholorship to a private school I would 100% give them the option to go and I think I think as a parent I would try my best to ensure that they have enough "real life" exposure to different classes and people. However if I won the lottery and the kids wanted to go to Eton, they can jog on

Her: We're not like you think we are, you're prejudice!

Me: Yes you are, first page google brought up after typing in her name proved so.

Ill notice that it was only the posh girl that got annoyed about the posh comments, and wrote an article.

Try Crack Cocaine... best drug you'll ever do. Infact get daddies girl on it, her old man can send her to the priory to get her off it again when shes bored and wants to be a dj or a film star instead.

EDIT: And don't tell me she's not like i think she is, whether its still there or not, i could've written volumes on her based purely on the info i found really easily last night - shes one of those sorts who likes to paint a picture to the whole internet about herself. I even know all about her dad. He's not short of a few bob.

I'll leave you alone now, but 3 things:

1. Crack is horrible, with a magazine called it you seem like the cunce at Vice (first impressions and all that)
2. You chose the wrong silly little girl to write an article about it.
3. Dont feed the trolls.

Crack: Liking the mag less now. Still need to do your spellchecks; can't be having typos in the headlines of articles you're spamming about. Par.

Noodle: Let me guess, you didn't go to private school? You don't know what you're talking about. Not every private school is Eton.

I would go out more often if the sound quality was better in clubs.

Crack: Liking the mag less now. Still need to do your spellchecks; can't be having typos in the headlines of articles you're spamming about. Par.

Noodle: Let me guess, you didn't go to private school? You don't know what you're talking about. Not every private school is Eton.

Belm this whole thread.

"Magazine's OK, I suppose, but that blog is embarrassingly poor."

"Crack is horrible, with a magazine called it you seem like the cunce at Vice (first impressions and all that)"

"You chose the wrong silly little girl to write an article about it."

Another example of posts lacking constructive criticism; I suppose you must all carry the template for the perfect magazine and the perfect blog but choose instead to type drivel.

In reality, you're the obese men at the football stadiums obnoxiously yelling at the professionals and telling them how to play.

Not sure whether the post regarding accusations of multiple logins was aimed at me at all, but if so, then get someone to check the ip's and you'll find I'm not even in Bristol, let alone posting for Crack magazine.

Most people on here seem to be drifting far away from the topic of the thread, which is Crack magazine. If you want to talk about private schools vs state schools then start a thread about it, rather than filling this one with irrelevance.

If you have nothing better to do than to sit around criticising others, then I suggest maybe you could.....find something better to do than criticising others.

Crack magazine doesn't need to create multiple accounts to promote itself; it's already good enough to do so without the added hassle of sifting through this bullshit.

All the best to the guys at crack; I look forward to a joining you one day for a coffee/chat/and of course, a bit of Crack.

I hate the way you are all going after the newbie. Hijack has been pissing me off for the exact same reasons for quite a few months now, i barely read or post on it as much as i use to, and neither do loads of other regulars who use to make this board worth reading!

it seems spit and vitriol have replaced fun and banter. No wonder so few new people stick around and even much loved regulars are barley scene.

If you have nothing better to do than to sit around criticising others, then I suggest maybe you could.....find something better to do than criticising others.

Why should anyone on here constructively criticise a random magazine? Aren't opinions equally valid?

Obviously it's a rhetorical question... yes, opinions are equally valid, and as Steve said, Crack magazine needs to get a thicker skin! This is just another forum on the internet, essentially just a collection of disembodied opinions. Noone owes you constructive criticism although many here have offered it, but equally none owe you a positive reception. If someone's first impression of your magazine is that it's written by dog-raping child-traders, then that's their opinion.
You are no different to any other creatives (this board is FULL of them). Feedback and opinions, whether constructive or vitriolic, are part of being creative. You either look at the criticism, think about it and say 'yeah, actually I can see why they'd think that, maybe I can look at ways of better getting my message across' or you say 'nah, they're idiots, fuck 'em'.
What you don't do is go on the passive-aggressive attack with multiple logins (the mods KNOW) and a really quite nauseating blog post.
Fine, you didn't write it, but you published it... and it really doesn't put you in a favourable light... it's drenched in the naive arrogance of privilege and youth.
As I've already said, good luck with your magazine, I wish you all the success, and you've obviously worked hard. But I would urge you to develop a thicker skin if you're serious about working in a creative field.

Crack Magazine did themselves no favours IMO by spamming quite a few threads on this board with their copy & pasteing into irrelevant topics.
