Politicization of the police? By a Tory
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_PeelSir Robert Peel, 2nd Baronet (5 February 1788 – 2 July 1850) was the Conservative Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 10 December 1834 to 8 April 1835, and again from 30 August 1841 to 29 June 1846. He helped create the modern concept of the police force while Home Secretary (leading to officers being known as "bobbies", in England, or Peelers, in Ireland, to this day), oversaw the formation of the Conservative Party out of the shattered Tory Party, and repealed the Corn Laws. What point are you trying to make? The police were created by a tory politician.

Yes I know who Robert Peel is... but in the modern day and age shouldn't the police be independent of the elected government? Rather than pandering to what politicians want?
And the thought of Boris Johnson having influence over anything serious fills me with dread. Man is a buffoon

Instead of complaining about it, why don't you just quiet down and accept it like normal people?

I'm sure you do, I'm just being silly. Anyway have you got a link to whatever it is that sparked this post? I though Boris was in Brussels at the moment.

That's what worries me - the police's achievements should be just that, not a tool for political party point scoring. Anything good the police do between now & next May will now be attributed/claimed by the Tories as proof of why you should vote for them. As much as Labour have fucked up hard, and let a lot of people down, I honestly think it's about to get worse for most people

unfortuanlty I think your probably right. But its going to get worse as the Conservatives try and sort out the mess Labour has left the country in. I love Labours "Lets spend our way out" policy.

Funny that most serious economists have actually applauded Gordon Brown's handling of the recession. It's sensationalist (and probably Tory) commentators in the papers that have criticized it... *waits for people to start playing the blame game...*
