His mum had died in the last week, and it had obviously hit him hard. Are you one of those halfwits who think people suffering from depression and/or grief should "just pull themselves together"?

No, I'm one of those half wits who thinks 5.5 billion people in this world would literally cut off their own legs to have the life he had, the chances he had and the talent he had. Ben, I don't know if you're trying to be contentious but that is a very naive attitude towards suicide. Firstly depression is an illness, like many other illnesses if gone untreated or unchecked it can kill you, 5.5 billion people are not you, they are not feeling the same way as you, they are not relevant to what is going on inside your head. And grief should not be underestimated; I think many many people who have experienced gut-wrenching grief have had moments where they have thought 'fuck it, I want to go too', I know I have. I'm lucky I have amazing friends who pulled me off the ledge a couple of times, and yes, with hindsight, there was no way I wanted to kill myself, but at the time it seemed a totally valid option. Maybe McQueen couldn't reach out to his friends, maybe he slipped past the point of no return, maybe it was a moment of madness, but for god's sake don't judge him, just because on the surface he seemed to be one of the lucky ones. I hope he's at peace now with his mum

can't believe the ignorant comments about depression though - but I guess out of 5.5 billion people you do get some cunts.

I hope he's at peace now with his mum Let's set this straight. Yes, I have no idea about depression, never suffered it. But for anyone who did suffer it, I would open my arms wide and do everything in my power to get them out of it. I don't consider depressed people to be idiots. People who kill themselves, on the other hand, I do consider idiots. Fair enough, those people who have terminal illnesses or have suffered catastrophic injuries leaving them paralyzed. But someone who is healthy? Madness! Not only has he wasted the rest of his life, he has spat in the face of all those who would give anything to be born into his situation. And I'm not talking about his talent or money or fame, I'm talking about the blind luck that he was born in this country at this time. And seriously, consider what his mum will be telling him in heaven. You think she'll be happy? Her pride and joy, the person she bore for nine months, then looked after for 40 years, goes and throws his life away? Fine call me a cunt, or whatever, it doesn't bother me, but it sounds like quite a few people are condoning suicide here, and that I will never do. Just look at the fucking world we live in!!

Maybe McQueen couldn't reach out to his friends, maybe he slipped past the point of no return, maybe it was a moment of madness, but for god's sake don't judge him, just because on the surface he seemed to be one of the lucky ones. Depression is a mental illness, it's not just being sad or having the blues, and therefore can often induce irrational thought, hence why a lot of people who seem to have everything going for them may suffer depression and believe life isn't worth living. To get to a point where you actually want to end your life you will have gone through the rational thought barrier. You cannot see a situation where you would want to end your life; I can't see a situation where I would want to end my life (not now anyway); but we aren't suffering from a mental illness and lets hope we never do. as far as I'm concerned, anyone who suicides has died of a terrible illness, it just happens thjat it is a mental illness rather than a physical one. Again

Can't say I'd ever heard of him till this sudden lovegush of affection for him.
Good riddance I say - all fashion designers should be shot anyway.
