Even the opposing group has two tescos in it - seems the numbers, and the notes and coins, are against them (Tesco Front Oink,"Tesco!" [anag], and for the haters, Telepatheic Heights = "hip leach gets tithe"

Just a little frivolous word play - I thought this board liked that kind of thing. (to explain if really necessary: "notescoinstokescroft" as well as being humorously readable as "notes coins toke croft", almost ironically contains the letters "t e s c o" twice. An objection to Tesco is their aggressive expansion, i.e. "they are everywhere", so the "joke" was there's even 2 tescos in "no tesco in Stokes Croft". The remainding letters can be used to construct the faux-conspiracy theory type phrase "Tesco Front Oink, 'Tesco!'" - "Cos the pigs are controlled by tesco's, yeah?" (This is meant ironically, I have and never have had either ketamine or dreadful hair) plus for a bit of fun "balance" threw in an extra anagram with, another ironic extreme - from a red-faced "there all scroungers, it's me who pays f***ing taxes" perspective. ( Personally, I do pay my taxes but I don't object to otherwise disused absentee landlord or council owned property being legally squatted. ) Hope a bit of, really not that undecipherable, word fluff made some one smile at least.)

http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2011/jun/15/bristol-tesco-opponents-day-in-court

"Campaigners against a Tesco store that has been the focus of rioting have won the right to have the granting of planning permission for the shop reviewed.

The protesters claim Bristol city council was wrong to give the go-ahead to the Tesco Express store in Stokes Croft. They will be able to put their arguments before a judge after they were granted a judicial review."

Quote
The judicial review will focus on a narrow element of the planning permission granted by the city council concerning the installation of equipment at the store.
Quote
A spokesman for Tesco said: "This judicial review is about the decision to allow the installation of plant equipment not about whether our popular local store should be open

Not going to change much even if they win, which is unlikely.

Of course the key is that the council didn't actually grant Tesco anything, they just gave the previous owner of the site the planning permission to put any kind of shop they like on there and then the owner sold it with the increased value this brought.
Bristol City Council actually had no power at all, this may be their first chance to do anything about it, who knows maybe they'll take it?  LIGHTAH!

I did. Outside of my frigging bedroom window until 5 in the bastard morning. It was like living in a house that's actually on the pyramid stage. I didn't give a fuck myself but tbf the purveyors of the sounds might've thought twice if they'd have had to deal with my missus when she got up for work at 6:30.

it was on the sort of raised bit/low balcony of the building next door to telepathic heights, there was some good jungle being played on a nice system, and a hundred or so people dancing - well mostly just standing about actually, but some dancing in the street, and the cabbies were finding it really hard to get past. I enjoyed watching for a bit.

To what ends?! Surely having property in a proper rioty community with no local amenities of a high quality and surrounded by squats does nothing for you financially or otherwise.

How the fuck do you define being a "twunt" and "turn[ing] Stokes Croft into Bristols Shoreditch" Huh?? What is the problem exactly - who is doing what!? I had you down as a rational person, Typowriter.

Most of the squatter crew are safe as fuck and are only trying to put a roof over their heads. There are shitloads of empties, so they're filling a void which the property owners have created. (Let's not forget why Stokey was/is such a mess.)

You might want to re-read what Tekton wrote before putting words into my mouth.
Here, I'll quote it for you and make it all big

Damn those trendy property owning twunts. How dare they have the business sense to develop a run down building into something that can be used by people other than squatters.

Just because a building has a bit of recent artwork on the side, it doesn't make it a national treasure. Some of you bollock on about the place as if it has major historical importance.

Yeah your taking my point to far Roz.

at the moment in Stokes Croft the people making the most noise have fuck all to do with the place. Also there are a load of squatters in bristol that aren't fuck ups, work hard, pay taxes on their earnings and actually improve the buildings they are in. Just cos theres one hellhole on the Croft thats painted to look like psytrance has been sick on it doesn't mean you should tar the lot with the same brush.

We all know that half of the street is owned by people just hanging onto property. If they actually did something with it instead of let it fester fairplay to them. But they aren't. The same shitty burnt out buildings are still there 7 years on. So yes, the property owners have a lot to do with the place being a constant shithole.

Plus i was more referring to the original development of Shoreditch, not so much the cunthive it is today.

I can't recall calling squatters fuck ups nor did I mention anything to with their actions, other than them actually being squatters.

You've gone from saying that the property owners turning the area into shoreditch are the problem, to saying that those doing nothing are contributing to the problem.

 Laugh Two Thumbs

So was this party on Friday actually in Telepathic Heights? Or was it just a big house party (cos the building next door isn't a squat, is it?) that people are desperately trying to link into all the stupidness in April? Seemed to have died down by the time I staggered home from Sureskank at 4ish

A couple of my friends went (I was down in London at the time). Sounded mental. People partying right across the street to the point at which no traffic could pass whatsoever, which is a pretty big deal given the importance of Gloucester Road in reaching certain parts of North Bristol. Apparently one guy tried to beep his way through the crowd. Got about halfway in, then people just engulfed his car and started dancing on the bonnet and roof. He was (understandably) not best pleased!

Heard it was fucking loud as well. Police turned up, but decided it wasn't worth risking another riot by trying to break it up, so just pissed off and let it be.

Edit: Oh dear God.... 35.  OMG Death Star!!!11

This is what I hate most of all. Its so popular to blame the police when trouble kicks off that my neighbourhood doesn't get policed at all unless someone's life is directly at risk. I'm all for organising a street party but it just isn't cricket to close a road without prior notice so you can have a stupid drug party with shit music and complete lack of respect for anyone who isn't a ketamised fucking cunt. I mean seriously what is the world coming to.
