Hola Hijack!

Looking back in the annals of Hijack history tell me 10 years have passed since Grooverider got send down in dubai for a blim of weed on his shoe and a laptop collection of porn. Lata and Basic still posted, Zammo was about to be proved correct-ish with his prediction of a property crash and we were all about to learn a painful lesson about US mortgages.

Hijack hit its peak in October 2008. Shit has changed. It appears wold is still talking to himself though, so no change there. The front page still has threads from November on it.

The reason for this post: what are you up to now? Post counts on this place indicate you're not wasting work time on Hijack so much any more. Have you all grown up with responsibilities and shit? Made your millions selling a web startup and rinsed it on coke & hookers? Most importantly, when did you last go to a nightclub?

I'm now in my forties (sob) and haven't seen the inside of a nightclub for years (unless 6 music festival at motion counts - was in bed before midnight). LinkedIn and Instagram have replaced Hijack, although it's rare I could afford time in the day for the internet in my old job until I jacked it all in to set up on my own terms, selling my soul to recruitment. Still live in Bristol. Still listen to music. Still married to Hooty. Still waiting for the long term effects of serotonin depletion to kick in, although that could just be confused with middle-age. Spending a bit too much time on PUBG on the xbox (old habits die hard).

Your turn. go go go...

Still working for the government, barely DJing at all, but still have the records. Still making music. Not grown up. Last time I went out was to see Kool G Rap at the Fleece in June 2017, so not really clubbing. Last club night I went to was probably Kerri Chandler at Motion in 2013. I can't recall going out to anything after that. I was 40 last year.

Ah I remember all the chat about Grooverider back then.

I still check this place hoping to be entertained by ramblings...but times have changed.

Still manage to reach the odd dnb night at Trinity, Blue Mountain or Lakota - mainly standing at the back thinking about having a hot bath using an excessive amounts of bath salts wearing a face mask whilst listening to Limewax...

So I am now wifed up and running a little graphic design business full time. The last time I was in a nightclub was probably circa 2012.

I think without Hijack to keep me company back in the day I would have gone insane as I bounced from shitty call centre job to shitty call centre job. There is probably a correlation in there somewhere though...

I've got fond memories.

To answer the question properly, 2008 saw me start working at Chemical Records as the dubstep buyer, where I eventually became the Head of Music. Was good working there and we also ran some great record labels in-house, but I jumped ship to Nokia Music in 2013.

Nokia was cool (and better paid!) but we were swiftly bought by Microsoft (which sucked) and then spun out to Korean chat business Line, who decided to lay us all off after a year. That led to 9 months of travel in S America which was ace, and came back to Bristol last spring, at which point I got a job at a small consultancy.

Coming up on 5 years of home ownership in Easton with Rosie (aka Hypnotits). We've been together 11+ years (!), no weddings or kids yet but we do now have a dog.

Still go out every once in a while, usually to somewhere like Cosies. The mere thought of going out to a bigger/busier club makes me angry at how rude and entitled the youngsters almost certainly are I'M SO ANGRY!

Alright.

Still knocking about; got married and have a school aged child now. Spend my weekends ferrying Jr to various classes and parties. A night down the pub these days is a rarity so going to nightclubs do not happen anymore.

Reconnected with Roadkill recently and somehow I managed to convince them to give me a job where he works. Starting in a couple of weeks.

Other than that, I spend a fair bit of time working on brewing in my spare time and stuff. Started running in September and am going from strength to strength, currently running 5K three times a week or so.

I'm also on Twitter a fair bit.

Still chat to CSB on WhatsApp and that.

I check in about once every few months just to see if the calendars working.

I have just turned 40, am still not married but we have 2 kids (1&3) and a mortgage so it seems kind of pointless now.

Living in Knowle a whole 5 minutes walk from where I was 10 years ago.

Twice a week I drive my grey estate car to the offices of a huge US corporation (by a roundabout in Swindon), rest of the time I work from home (not massively productive with 2 young kids)

I am not sure I even went to clubs very often in 2008, but I now cant remember the last time I did. Still get out to one off day time things every now and again, Downs festival, LSTD etc.

Have been loving some of the bumps of old threads, Hijack was proper funny at times, plus I still miss this guy  Bad Teeth

Still here every now and again - used to laugh at those threads back then;  thinking how seriously some people took themselves and I  got told off a few times by Admin for rubbing people up the wrong way..  The whole  Bad Teeth thing - "if I put that at the end of an insult then its OK.."   Yeah.. OK..

Only really used this place to promote our night   laugh at Scrumpy? and Zammo and see what else was going on in Bristol - I was never part of the Hijack inner circle.

Now in my mid/late 40s with two almost teenage children and a respectable day job .   The last night I was involved with was in 2012 and don't think I've been out since apart from a few private parties where I felt I wanted to go home and go to bed at 10PM.

Social media killed Hijack, does Facebook have a calendar BTW?     The smoking ban, inflated running costs of clubs and the new generation who seem not interested killed small clubs in Bristol.   I hear motion is where its at these days?

Waddup!

I left Bristol about 8/9 years ago but I visit as often as I can. I was actually last in a nightclub a month or two ago for Mungo's Hifi at Thekla, but that doesn't happen very often! I work in CRM at Heathrow Airport but I'm about to start up a production agency producing all their marketing assets. I also run a little music festival back home in Godalming. That's in it's 7th year this year. Stops me feeling too old, and helps me pretend I'm cool. I still DJ parties and pubs as long as I can playu what I like. I've run through a few girlfriends including 1) Drug addict 2) Married and 3) 16 years my junior. Surprisingly none worked out. Latest one is definately a keeper though.

I'm really keen to see what matey with the motorbike, the haircut and the unhealthy interest in kids is up to.

Nice to see a few people still look at the board.

I tend to pop by for a cursory scroll down the front page every few weeks and it makes me a little wistful.

I actually ended up looking at the board today as Facebook told me it was 11 years since I joined there. It reminded me that I was talked into joining Facebook by @Carlybag (just realised that the @ tag doesn't work on here!)  Roll Eyes and at the time I said "why the hell do I need this place when we have Hijack!"  Laughing

*On that note one thing that Hijack has that Facebook doesn't (and really needs) is these guys:  Smashed  Perv, mmmhmmm, yummy *rubs hands*  Tomato Slayer!  Bad Teeth

I'm still in Bristol. Still make it to clubs regularly but mainly in a work capacity as I'm a full-time events promoter. I guess I have Hijack to thank for helping me get started out promoting. Thankfully poster wars is now largely a thing of the past though.

I'm 10 years into a relationship with a lovely lass (who was never a member on here) and we own a house and a cat.

Still in regular contact with a few old members including Obscene (we share an office) Carlybag, Bandit / TS2W (who I run the events company with), Keef and a few others. Would be cool to see a fee more of you about too although I expect a Hijack party is out of the question these days.

Glad to see that a few others still check on here occasionally too.

I'm still in Bristol, since 2008 I've got married but no kids so far.  Nowadays I'm working as a developer / SQL guy but I still do the odd bit of music production here and there.  The last time I went out to a club was a few months ago to Duvet in the Queens Head, which along with some D&B nights in Trinity are pretty grey hair friendly raves Bad Teeth

Yo.  About 2008 was when I fucked off to Aus for a couple of years, said hello to Ritesh and came home again.  Couldn't get work in Bris so moved to London and then met a local girl at the Oxford Totterdown on my first trip back to Bristol.  I clubbed for about a year riding that post-dubstep wave and now I doubt I see the inside of a club more than once a year.

So now married and home-owning with aforesaid local girl, we must be some of the rare people of my social group who've managed to actually stay in Totterdown and not have to move to St. Annes or Fishponds or somewhere and that's only as she bought with the help of her dad 8 years ago.  1st and only kid is on the way, due June 3rd. I'm having a loft conversion done right now.

Somehow I've become the person I said I never would be and also I'm quite happy about it, a story I'm sure lots of us share.

I'm even pretty fucking successful with work at the moment having just launched next generation laminate packaging in Sainsbury's and Waitrose despite spending just as much time on forums as I used too.

Keep thinking I should bosh a load of MDMA and rave one whole night before June but the temptation isn't that strong.

Still going!
Love it.

Facebook and Twitter can't do nostalgia.

All the clubs are closed. Go to pubs every now and then and stay for a while before heading home to get woken up a few hours later by one of my children (2 and 6)
If i did want to carry on and hit a club though i wouldn't be able to. I think this is really sad and a BIG loss for nightlife as a whole. Motion is pretty amazing but it's a destination venue and just hosts events rather than resident nights that are running throughout the week all year round. the impromptu nights were nearly always the best.

I think we were/are lucky

Don't promote anymore. Still get festival slots and house party sets but slowed down to 80s Disco now that barely gets beat matched.

Working in Bristol with Stuart Warren-Hill of Hexstatic fame. We do holographic displays for installs and events. Fell into it after working at a major events company for many years. Pretty cool job to be fair and get to travel a lot.

Still fondly remember bread hats, Hijack night at TB2 (really miss that place and it's temperamental main room system and dripping ceilings) and savage dressings down on here. One guy moved to Bristol and wanted help getting his band known - was answered succinctly with lots of 'how about playing gigs'

Not sure why i came on here today but glad i did.

 Tomato Slayer!

Nice thread, good times.

Like most people i got married, had 2 kids (2&5) and haven't been out out in about 6 years. Last club night i remember going to was actress and pinch at blue mountain.
Actually planning a big night out next friday - more of a pain in arse than it used to be, had to organise child care and then an air bnb so we don't have to deal with the little shits people the day after. Seems like a lot of effort to be annoyed at the state of the youth these days.

Don't mix as much as i used to, but manage to have a little spin every now and then. Would like to play to an audience where the average age is above 4 but honestly can't be bothered to organise anything/put in any effort
