what other stuff apart from keys do you want? knobs, sliders, drum pads? you might just want keys of course... i'd normally go for one from one of the bigger manufacturers, roland (edirol is them too) or korg, i'm not up to date with current models though

i find having a few sliders etc can be fun so you can twiddle parameters on the fly, makes for some nice effects, drum pads would be if you want to play rhythms in by hand in real time

I've found that keeping it simple is the best way to go... you dont need all them fancy bells and whistles on a midi controller it just jacks up the price and most hardly ever use them... I have a small "ekeys evolution" USB midi kb that 42 keys and fits in my laptop bag.. perfect for on the go production and rawkin.. the 'O2" is also nice (I had one till I broke it and replaced it with the ekeys one lol) and it has faders and what not.. a lil more pricey but maybe more of what you are looking for ... I know for sure the ekeys evolution is well under your stated price... mm I'm pretty sure both are within your budget! =)

bells and whistles don't need to be expensive. Had mien ages, pretty fucked now but been gigged and breakcored to fuck lol.
£130 is a fuckign good price for this, edirol is a good manufacturer.

nope I haven't had any problems... although I haven't used the model I think its just a newer version of the O2 which I did own and used till I broke it like I mentioned before... the only real problem I've had with it is that although the keys have velocity sensitivity they are not weighted so it takes a bit of getting used to playing.. other than that it worked just fine for me! =)

knobs or faders are a must imo! I've used an e-mu x-board 25 for years and it's still going strong! 2 octave, pitch shift wheel & 16 knobs... makes eq'ing a hell of a lot easier.

I am agree to visit this site and read this post.Because this post has many important things.I have got a casio 3800 and it is supposed to have a usb interface with midi but so far no vista drivers so i cant go midi with it. but the midi path requires a learnin curve and i cant figure out what to do with the 800 sounds that came with it. for 400 bucks i got a touch sensitive super feel keyboard with 76 keys synth with 800 thingamagigs (voices) 200 auto drums, a stereo amp and speakers and great art and a headset out which i interface to the computer with. I am really happy for knowing this great post.
