Mono / Stereo & busses in Logic

If you're using a mono channel in Logic for your bass, but want to send some of the high end to a bus for some extra FX and want them to be in stereo, do you need to leave the original channel in stereo and sum it to mono later, or does the send operate 'pre-fader'? I've always worked this way so should probably already know the answer to this question...

 make 2 busses from the original chanel, roll off everything bellow 100hz on the 1st aux and everything above 100hz on the 2nd to make a crossover thus splitting the bass so you have the sub and the higher frequencies of the bass running independently.   Hope this is of use..
