Started a new project this evening, bounced a bassline, chopped it up and stuck the bits in the EXS24. So far so good. However, when I play it back the samples play their full length regardless of the length of the MIDI note I've written. Normally the notes seem to act as a 'gate', i.e. cut the note short and the sample won't play its full length, but not this time...

I've tried closing and reopening the project, and creating a new EXS24 instrument, neither with any success. I've also checked old project to verify that they do actually 'gate' the samples as I've described, and indeed they do. Please tell me what I'm doing wrong, cos it's absolutely doing my tits in...  I'M SO ANGRY!

There's a setting on the sampler that determines whether it plays the whole sample (i.e. behave like a drum machine) or plays the length of the note (i.e. behave like a keyboard). I can't for the life of me remember what the setting is called though, and its probably different between different samplers/sampler plugins.

Vague and unhelpful!  Two Thumbs

In Reason ion the Redrum Drum machine, there's a switch on each hit that determines whether it plays the whole note through with on hit or the length it's drawn in for. Decay Gate Mode it's called. Not sure what the Logic equivalent is though, sorry.  Smashed

Never used it, but try this article

When creating drum samples, you generally want them to play all the way through when triggered, so the One Shot tick box lets you do just that.

Is there a box called "One Shot" ? If so untick it as you want to do the opposite of the above.

We have a winner! Nice one.  Cool

Turns out the catalyst was me trying to load multiple samples at once, using 'contiguous zones', i.e. the sampler maps the samples across keys for you rather than you having to specify the range for each one. The sampler apparently helpfully ticks the one-shot box at the same time...
