im looking at these...  I want to be able to run from Laptop bus power (which they both provide) and also be able to use it as my main studio interface too.  So these both fit the bill....   can i justify spending the extra on the RME which id imagine sounds a bit better. How much better ?!  the motu provides some FX too which might be nice....

anyone got experience of both ?!

Hello,

I have the fireface 400 and its been amazingly reliable at home or on the road. Haven't used the Motu but I have been told that the converters on the RME are better.

i got the 400 its fucking sweet but i wouldn't take it out and about. The D/A converters and mic pre-amps are very very nice.

Good info on the 400 here. Also gives other alternatives.

thanks Joe.

another question I have regarding the RME is...  If i want to use the device on PC & Mac (not at the same time) am I going to have to flash the memory each time?

I read somewhre that the firmware has to be updated for it to work on each system which would be really annoying if I was switching between...

Anyone have any experience with the Lexicon audio interface? Looking at getting the I-Onix U22, which comes in a bit cheaper than the above audio interfaces...

Get up to Digital Village and audition them both. I had my eye on the Fireface for a while and it would be the one I went for if I had the cash.
