I remember the days when you could post your tune in the 'Hijackers Tunes & Mixes' section and the next week be on ITV Cribs.

No-one wants to pay their dues anymore, kids with a broadband connection effectively learning their craft in public, via social media, and expect instant success.

You don't need the latest Mac, so you might want to consider a second hand one at a much discounted price. I would venture a 13" will get annoying if you are doing graphic design so maybe consider a MacBook Pro 15". Plus if you get one of the older models you can take out the optical drive and replace it with a HD if required.

And if you don't want to use OSX you can always install Windows on a MBP. https://www.apple.com/uk/support/macbookpro/bootcamp/

I have a 2008 Macbook (not Pro) and I have used it to edit video on. Render times are slower than my Mac tower, but it still did the job.

I am a freelance graphic designer, and I am leaving my part time job on 23rd April to focus purely on that. Work is coming in thick and fast, yay.

I am however a little worried that I am going to go crazy just sitting in the house all day with only a Bearded Dragon for company, so I am considering getting a laptop so I can sometimes go and hipster it up in a cafe or in the park (EDIT: or the pub). I have a very nice powerful desktop Windows PC, so the laptop would just be used to supplement that rather than to replace it. I want complete seamless integration between the two (I will use an external drive to store current projects)

Without wanting to get into a silly polarised debate, do you think it is worth shelling out $$$ for a Macbook [air]? Will it be annoying to have OSX and Windows on the go when I am working on projects in the usual Adobe software?

Are Apple laptops really worth the extra dollar?

And yes, I have seen that Mitchell and Webb sketch about working from home...

Missed this. But refrshing to see a student doing something other than researching dubstep and helath problems.

 Two Thumbs

Thanks for your response, sorry for the delay, I have been working on my dissertation (I still am actually).
I wanted to try and do something that was worthwhile, and I am considering going into teaching in the future, so was hoping to use this as a stepping stone on that road.
