Citywide site-specific performance - A Tale of Migration, Power, Family and Home

when  23/04/2013 19:00
to       05/05/2013 23:00

After sixteen months of workshops, events and competitions, the Bridges Project has culminated in a theatrical show The Ithaca Axis:

Odysseus has journeyed for many years conquering far away lands and fantastical creatures. From gold gilded temples through vast wild forests and over mighty peaks he has travelled with his crew. But always his mind wanders back to his wife and children at home.

Soon, braving the wrath of the Gods, he will return to the ancient kingdom of Ithaca - now modern day Bristol - and host to his seat of power the Poseidon Foundation. But is he still welcome?

Follow the stories of Odysseus, Penelope, Telemachus & Cassandra as they head towards the culmination of their tale; The Ithaca Axis.

An incredible journey taking place through several, secret locations across Bristol. Part theatre, part adventure, The Ithaca Axis is a modern reinvention of the Epic myth 'The Odyssey'.

Show dates: 23rd / 24th / 25th / 26th / 27th April & 30th Apr / 1st / 2nd / 3rd / 4th / 5th May (no show Apr 28th & 29th)

TICKETS: £10 (£7 concessions) available from:www.bristolticketshop.co.uk and Eventbrite. The performance will stretch across several secret locations across the City and will start promptly at 7pm from THE POSEIDON STATUE (near the fountains), Broad Quay, Bristol BS1 4DJ (pictured, right)

The citywide, site-specific performance is directed by Nick Young (director of At Tether's End) written by Dr Edson Burton (Raising Kamila).

Read through the trials and tribulations they faced while organising such a prestigious event here.

This show is the final part of The Bridges Project, funded by The Arts Council.

Releasing their much anticipated seventh album under their own label 'Department-H', the boys are back, hitting you hard with what they do best; 15 slabs of super heavy, psychedelic, beat-laden, post-hip-hop audio. Written and produced by Jake Wherry and Ollie Teeba, THERE WERE SEVEN takes you on an epic journey; from the undulating wobbly dub of "Welcome to Extravagance", through to the electronic takeover of "Mother Dove", and the manic spitting flute funk of "Take 'Em On".

Featuring collaborations with up-and-coming UK wordsmith, George the Poet, on "A Sad State of Affairs", the soulful vocalist Hannah Clive on "The Lost Boy", and super MC's from across the Atlantic - Twin Peaks and Teenburger.

Take some time out from the tinny, un-inspiring, auto-tune infected world of the machine, and feast on some deliciously full-bodied beats, brought to you by the original grand masters of sonic sound...;. THE HERBALISER.

The current touring line-up comprises :-

Jake Wherry – Bass

Ollie Teeba – Decks

Micky Moody – Drums

Ollie Parfitt – Keyboards

Dreadzone, the fervently followed British institution and original pioneers of UK bass culture released ‘The Best of Dreadzone: The Good The Bad And The Dread’ - a compendium of their excellent musical story so far in May this year. Still going strong after seventeen years, Dreadzone have carved a large niche and cult following.  Hit records, critical acclaim and a huge, devoted fan base are theirs, due in part to their utterly storming live shows. The all-killer-no-filler 16 tracks collate the many highlights of ‘the Zone’s’ output to date - a coherent and still fresh-sounding body of work.

THE PROTOTYPES- Shogun’s latest signing, The Prototypes, really ignite dance floors with their debut single since being taken under Friction’s wing. Though a step away from the associated ‘Shogun’ sounds, the pair are definitely showcasing their worth through this release and live sets. Having united after being rival promoters and discovered by the legendary Roni Size, the duo really give their career a kicking up the backside with their energetic release that has been featuring as many DJs opening track.

SIGMA- Cameron Edwards and Joe Lenzie aka Sigma, have been making their presence felt on the drum and bass scene since 2007. From early releases on labels such as Charge and Viper Recordings, to the seminal All Blue on Zinc’s Bingo imprint (DNBA’s most downloaded tracks ever), the boys stepped up to the big time with serious dancefloor killers Paint It Black and the anthem El Presidente VIP. .. .. With respect now gained with the scene as producers and highly sought after DJs, Sigma continue working to maximise their profile within the realms of D&B and beyond it. Highlights include their featured minimix for Annie Mac on Radio One, squeezing in 35 tracks in five minutes as well as remix work for artists such as Top Cat on Special Dedication.

Dreadzone Pimp

“A welcome return for the defenders of bass! Dreadzone are back with their new album 'Eye on the Horizon' and as usual they draw fast and shoot straight to the heart of the matter: music to move you mind and your feet.” Don Letts, Culture Clash Radio BBC 6 Music

April 26th 2010 sees the release of the much anticipated Dreadzone album EYE ON THE HORIZON. Reflecting the band illustrious past and innovative releases, EYE ON THE HORIZON firmly picks up where the bands popular top 20 chart hit LITTLE BRITAIN left off. It reinvents the band with ten tracks that signify the move into fully formed songwriting against a backdrop of dubwise dancabilty.

This style helped them to become one of the UK's original dance music pioneers, with a style that has since spawned many sub genres. MCing and reggae vocals partner the mix of live guitars, electronic beats and dub bass to perfection. The album features iconic samples (notably, the legendary theme from Long Good Friday on Gangster, a spoken word piece from Woody Guthrie and Dennis Browns Greensleeves classic Whip Them Jah on American Dread) all of which compliment the bass and beat heavy Dreadzone style perfectly.

Having created a genre of music that has taken hold of youth culture in britain, anticipation has been building to fever pitch as the band set about unleashing onto the world their debut album. a trail of incendiary live performances across the UK and Europe – from the Roskilde Festival in Denmark and Melt festival in Germany to London club Matter and the warehouse project in Manchester - have left festival goers and clubbers transfixed over the past year. The NME were so convinced of their potential that they featured the band on the cover of their ‘State Of Music Today’ issue back in April.

“With all three of us doing it it’s going to get ultra-no-holds barred” says Skream. “This is Magnetic Man. It’s no longer three people: it’s a whole.”

Helloooo!

We are The Trinity Centre and we have been hosting major musical events for over two decades and we are recognised as the birthplace of the Bristol Sound.

We offer a platform for local artists and performers to step up and enrich inner-city life by showcasing their talents.

We are based in a fantastic old church that, through a lot of hard work and a keen eye for what creates a cracking live music event, has become a top gig venue. With the combination of the atmospheric surroundings and the great artists who play here, we've become one of the most exciting live venues in Bristol.

If you've already been to Trinity then you know what we're talking about. If you haven't, then clear your schedule and make coming to Trinity the next thing you do.

Who we'd like to meet: Anyone who loves wicked gigs!
