There's a lot more to Pigpen Social than the quality music! Free ShopThere will be a free shop, with books/vinyl/cds/dvds all available for free. We will be accepting donations for Oxfam, Book-Cycle and BrisFest. A free shop is a shop where all goods are free. They are similar to charity shops, with mostly second-hand items, but everything is available at no cost. The free shop reflects a switchover from scarcity to abundance brought about by increased material wealth due to technological advances and globalization. The free shop is a form of constructive direct action that provides a shopping alternative to the capitalist framework, allowing people to exchange goods and services outside of a money-based economy. Food Our resident Queen of Cakes Katrina will be baking some delicious savory muffins and cupcakes. These are very popular indeed at our parties and disappear literally like hot cakes, so when you see them we recommend you grab one quick! We will be asking for a suggested donation for each treat with proceeds to charity as usual. All ingredients are ethically sourced and where possible certified organic and fair trade. No.51's lush pizzas will be served all day into the late evening. Lovingly handcrafted and baked in their wood fired oven. You can eat your pizza downstairs listening to the music, upstairs in the restaurant where it’s more quiet and relaxed, or out in the sunshine in the courtyard garden. There are lots of vegetarian and meat pizzas to choose from, also a selection of starters, sides and puddings, each named with a quirky Bristolian twist. We highly recommend you pop in any day of the week to fill your belly. http://www.pigpensocial.co.uk/oinkoink/parties/parties-2012/pigpen-social-winter-warmer-saturday-18th-february-2012-no-51-stokes-croft-bristol/

General / The Forum / The downgrading of St. Pauls Carnival
|

just been sent this email. is it true? anyone know? On the St Pauls Carnival website they are advertising the meeting on tuesday clearly and mention about soundsystems and stalls http://www.stpaulscarnival.co.uk/ There's a community meeting on February 28th at the Malcolm X Community Centre at 6.45pm will find out more there hopefully! Hi, As you know, yesterday was Valentines day. A day when we express our love for the people we adore. Today, and very much in the spirit of expressing love, S.O.C.A the (Save Our Carnival Association) are contacting people who love or care about saving St Paul's Carnival, one of the country’s loveliest community celebrations of culture, creativity and colour. Yesterday one of our S.O.C.A agents uncovered plans to move the St Paul's Carnival away from the streets of St Paul's to Portland Square. And as if that slap in the face wasn't enough, there will be NO sound systems, NO street stalls and NO performance stages of any kind. To be fair there will be a daytime procession and some night clubby stuff for the party hard crew. And yes that's it more or less it!!! We have it on good advice that this is not a HOAX!!!! We also learned that the apparent brains behind this outrageous move are unbelievably... The Carnivals management committee. Apparently they don't want YOU the community to know until its way to late for YOU to do anything about it. In fact did YOU know that the Carnival plans to hold a community consultation on 28th February at 7pm at the Malcolm X Center to 'consult, YOU, the community'. No you say... No surprise there we say. Apparently, this meeting is being kept pretty quiet as the smaller the turnout, the easier it is for our beloved Carnival to be butchered!!!! So now that YOU know. The questions are these: What can YOU do about it? And do YOU care enough to miss an episode of East Enders to be at the meeting on 28th February at 7pm at the Malcolm X Centre, 141 City Rd, Bristol. WE do and here's a few things YOU can do right now... First, spread the love. Forward this email to all of your mates and get them to send it onto all of their mates mates, etc, etc. Second, Spread more love by telling everyone you know to be there on 28th February at 7pm at the Malcolm X Centre. Third, stay tuned for more juicy S.O.C.A updates on how you can help and get involved! Lastly (for now at least), when it launches please join our facebook group and let us know what you think. If you want to, email what you think to us. We are looking for really good ideas on how the Carnival can thrive and if this email really is not for you and you don't give a rats whats not please email SOCA HQ with "Not for me" in the header and we'll remove you. Cheers. Team S.O.C.A "The Save Our Carnival Association is a mish mash of choreographers, artists, dancers, producers, DJ's, MC's, community activists and the volunteers who makes the Carnival what it is. That's uniquely special. Collectively we adore Carnival and believe that the people are the heartbeat. We believe that the current plans are unacceptable and that better ways forward should be explored and acted upon now. We want to ensure that Carnival thrives and has a vision and team that continues to grow Carnival to be better and stronger each year. We believe that it should remain in St Paul's and within the hands of the St Paul's community for the good of the soul of Bristol." - Join us on facebook if you feel the same.

Oh no, where were they stolen from?
My friend had her bike stolen from outside her house and saw the man cycling off on it but it was quite dark so she didn't get a really good look. A couple of days later she saw the man leisurely cycling her bike past her house, so she jumped in her car and drove after him shouting out of the window so that everyone out and about turned and looked at him. He eventually gave up and abandoned the bike on Stapleton Rd. Closest I've heard to putting someone in stocks and publically humiliating them in their neighbourhood
haha good work

I read about the dark web a couple of years ago and thought it sounded really interesting. Downloaded some program and used it for a couple of days - least interesting thing ever. It was like using the internet when it was first invented.
No doubt I was doing it wrong.
i found tor to be v e r y slow indeed.

And what they don't tell you.... Onion routing was invented by the US Navy and DARPA but they realised they couldn't hide their own comms in it unless the number of nodes was large enough, so they made it public in order to make it grow to a working size. If they want it, and they do, they have to let us use it and they have to resist it being policed. True facts. didn't know that! this thread full of fact, hijack needs more of this!

I expect Lovefilm is fine on a normal computer, but the PS3 app is bug ridden. It is certainly not the PS3 or the connection as iPlayer and Netflix are both fine. Lovefilm frequently just hangs on loading, again and again and again. then once you get in, you search and it crashes, you back out of a film and it crashes. It is basically total shit.
odd! completely different to my experience. it's running smooth as can be for me on my slimline ps3!

saw netflix on ps3, been meaning to check it out, but not has time as signed up to watch now love film which i think is rather good, have watched loads of films on that over the past few weeks.
have experienced no issues whatsover with it's stability. it may not be love film itself causing your problems. have you checked all the other possibilties like updating software, internet connection speed and wotnot?
so what's mostly on netflix then? US television?

I hardly ever see them on any page i'm looking at and i was wondering if anybody actually takes any notice of them or buys stuff as a result of seing them
Im a Digital Marketing Manager, so spend most of my day looking at click-through rates on adverts. generally speaking, we get an average click-through of around 0.02% (fortunately we pay per click, not per impression). We sell B2B software, so it's quite targeted; usually if the ad gets served to 10mil viewers, we'll get around 3k click through to our landing pages. The ad's do work, but conversion rate depends highly on what product/service you are pushing and whether you're pushing a free-trial, or trying to get them to spend money... i am wondering ... is there a way of measuring the effect impressions have? i suppose a real world comparison example would be this morning i saw a billboard for a new chocolate bar so when i pop over the shops later there's a chance i'll buy that over any other?

afaik, he has not been charged with it, and he didn't just share music on the internet there is a lot more going on that that, and he's being irrationally compared to some really nasty people. i thought this sort of thing could be considered cherry picking or just straight up bullshit. please clarify and correct me if i am wrong.

at home i have firefox with adblocker add-on and gmail ad-blocker so never see any adverts online.
targeted advertising, although serving you more suitable ads, i consider some to be an invasion of my privacy due to the way in which they collect the data!
