Sweet. You guys doing stuff on wax now? Any chance of a limited edition slime's greatest hits EP or similar at some point? You've got enough great tunes to fill it 5 times over by now I should think.
Yeah this our first foray into vinyl. I will be looking at the idea of a 'greatest hits' toward the end of the year, when we reach our 100th release

General / The Forum / Pledge 'Waiting' [Slime SLM057] - Melodic garage and deep house
|
on: February 19, 2013, 12:27:43
|
Pledge'Waiting' (Slime Recordings) Cat.No : SLM057 Slime welcomes Pledge to the imprint, coming to us with a pedigree of releases on labels such as L2S and Bass Machine. Here he delivers an EP with two very distinctive garage flavours, cementing his reputation as one to watch on the UKG scene. 'Waiting' rolls in on a wave of emotion, melancholy pads fused to a shuffling garage beat that creates an atmospheric experience. Distant chords sparkle in the mix with soft vocals gliding over the surface adding depth and warmth to proceedings. 'Back To The Future' flips the script entirely with a peak-time ride to the dark side, classic garage in the making with a retro bassline and brooding FX to match the mood. Drop this on a dance and watch them wind it up! Slime alumni Pickha reworks the lead track into a deep delight, old school piano keys washing over ethereal vocals for a sublime journey back through time to the golden age of house music. General / The Forum / Aleks Zen 'Sweet & Sour' [Slime SLM056] - Retro house meets bass music downtown
|
on: February 10, 2013, 19:31:36
|
Aleks Zen'Sweet & Sour' (Slime Recordings) Cat.No : SLM056 Aleks Zen is something of a renaissance man on the rise - producer, singer, DJ, MC... the list goes on. For his debut release on Slime however he strips it back to the bare essentials with two deceptively simple yet beguiling house tracks that are packed full of pure sunshine. 'Transcend & Unity' combines retro house and bass music with intoxicating results, warm pads and a simple kickdrum the driving force pushing the track forward. A subtle pulse of bass works it's way along the spine of the rhythm, constantly mutating underneath female vocal cuts and glittering keys. 'Unrequited Lust' switches things up with a monstrous bass groove that will have many a clubber pinned to the dancefloor for it's duration. A certain well-known vocal cut gets expertly deployed across the track whilst spiralling melodies are deftly interwoven with cinematic strings to make this a must-have for the discerning DJ's digital crate. It is a 2GB file; might be easier to post it to you?
It took ages to edit, partly because I've never used a video editor before, but I think I could knock up a couple more without much trouble now I've got some of the basics understood.
Dependent on your bandwidth use WeTransfer to send it on. Otherwise yeah bang it on a DVD and snail mail it to me What product are you using to edit?

I hope it keeps building up steam. I've knocked up a dodgy video for Nomurai which I'll put up on Youtube later; seems to be the place to be for people looking for music. Soundcloud views are still steadily increasing and I can't complain at over 1000 views.
Nearly 1100 now. I keep meaning to get everything up on YT. I know I can do longer uploads so might put the whole thing up for stream. If you do get the Nomurai video together I'll pop it on the Slime TV page too Given this has been a month or so out on the shelf now I'm really happy with the positivity this release has got from fans of the label, actually took me slightly by suprise how many were digging it.
It's been amazing Andy. People dig it becasue they have good taste, a discerning ear, and know good quality production when they hear it. Defo. A lot of the younger heads into the label have really had their minds blown by it, something that requires focus to listen to and unfolds further meanings on repeat plays.

General / The Forum / BSN Posse 'Love History' [Slime SLM055] - Spanish bass music future classic!
|
on: January 28, 2013, 13:28:00
|
BSN Posse'Love History' (Slime Recordings) Cat.No : SLM055 BSN Posse return to Slime after their celebrated debut 'Songs From The Sea' hit the label last year. The Spanish production team have conjured up another sensual confection for their second offering with the beautiful 'Love History', backed with a selection of remixes from some of the brightest young names on the bass music circuit. The original is a heady brew of breathless female vocals strewn across a delicate halfstep rhythm. Warmth penetrates the track like rays of pure sunshine, five minutes of suspended time that is eternally summer. Laney kicks of the remix package with a playful extrapolation of the more seductive elements of the original, strapping it to a future-proof rhythm for maximum impact. Sker opts for a more ambient structure, chords low and loose in the mix with a glimmering autonomic finish. Mr Beeb switches things up a gear for a classic garage shuffle that is packed full of swing. Manul goes straight for the jugular with his interpretation, dubstep rhythms suffused with jungle flourishes and a four to the floor finish that will leave you breathless. Lojt takes it down a notch, combining the warmth of the original with a feel-good house groove that is sheer perfection. Finally, Elias Smith offers up a take that comes on like a long lost rave anthem with piano stabs and skittering beats played over warm chords and rolling bass. Slime - designed to move minds. Great review of this over at Juno Download : Wonderfully titled label Slime was founded in 2010 with the firm intent to 're-capture the wide-eyed thrill of the first age of rave'. Since then they have put out a multitude of forward thinking releases all leading to this, their second label compilation. Literally bulging with underground goodness, the tracklist weighs in at 26 full-length tunes (plus a free one!). Highlights of all this madness include the sparse 2 step of "Jaded" by Akin, the twitching, percussive "Tunwan" by SPD, the dreamy 3am RnB vibes of "Communication" by Totte, the deeply seductive rimshot house of DYP's "Vices" and the ominous rave of "There's No Way" by Frequent Flyers.

|
on: January 10, 2013, 09:30:18
|
Voice Hands Machine'Cold Jam' (Slime Recordings) Cat.No : SLM053 Slime returns to blaze a trail with a new artist to the label in the form of Voice Hands Machine.Founded by former DMC Scratch Champion DJ Kodh, the Parisian producer comes to the imprint after a string of impressive releases that combine skewed pop sensibilities with finely-tuned electronica, recalling the refined sounds of Hot Chip, Schneider TM and Bitpixel. 'Cold Jam' is a pitch-perfect pop song armed with a beguiling melodic touch and gossamer electronica flourishes that will capture your heart. Kodh drops an original vocal across the whole track as spiralling synths elevate the song higher with every play. Finnish production duo Jack The Hustler rework the track with the vocals pitched up and a booming percussive exoskeleton that will make many a soundsystem sweat. Fellow Parisians mad:AM provide the final remix, turning in a soulful house epic that retains the melody of the original and straps it to a deep and mellow rhythm that is packed full of sunshine. DJ Blakey'A New Chapter' (Slime Recordings) Cat.No : SLM052 Slime starts the year in style with a brand new selection from former DMC champion DJ Blakey.Blakey debuted his flawless production style on the label last year with the 'If You See Me' EP, much loved by garage fans across the world. Not to be outdone for his second release, 'A New Chapter' features four tracks of immaculate garage, smooth house and bumpy techno that will enrapture discerning dancefloors everywhere. 'Little Bear' comes correct with some serious old skool swing backed up by descending melodic interplay and shuffling percussion. 'Got Myself' spikes the formula with piano stabs and jacking beats for a downtown Chicago feel. 'Detour' does just that and takes us into minimal techno territory with swirling FX underpinning a relentless groove. Nice little review of this on Robot Bodypop : http://robotbodypop.com/2012/12/27/slime-presents-basswave-2-26-tracks-of-next-level-bass-slime-recordings/Featuring the best of their past 50 or so releases, Basswave 2 is the culmination of an outstanding year for Slime Recordings. The vibe is deep and eclectic with tribal, melancholic, soulful and heavyweight bases covered in the pick of the year’s releases.
Slime have had a swarm of impressive debuts this year, notably from the likes of Akin and Vausz to name just two – as well as a number of important releases from established artists such as Partyson and Totte. The bar is high, and that is reflected by the quality of the tracks on this compilation.
If you are new to this imprint then you could do much worse than start with this release – before you inevitably go sifting through their back catalog for their other quality releases.

General / The Forum / Re: Guns don't kill people - Americans do.
|
on: December 17, 2012, 16:57:05

Reading into this last night, the gun lobby groups used to be quite vocal after a massacre, NRA would hold a meeting in the affected area the day after etc. Nowadays they keep a low profile, not out of compassion for the victims, but because they know once the media storm has blown over there will be no change in law, no progress, nothing. So they just sit it out, and have been proven right each time this happens.
Yeah it's true - It is quite apparent that Obama really doesn't have much power to change anything There is a part of me that thinks the US will eventually destroy itself over this issue - in spectacular and brutal fashion. In 2011 - the latest year for which detailed statistics are available - there were 12,664 murders in the US. Of those, 8,583 were caused by firearms. http://www.guardian.co.uk/news/datablog/2011/jan/10/gun-crime-us-stateConsidering the population of America you might have to wait a whiile for that demise. This is a hugely emotive issue right now, but give it a year and I doubt much will have changed. There's so many guns both legally and illegally in the US I can't see how any regulation would help. I meant more from the point of view of the gov't saying 'hand over your weapons' and the people saying 'no' Despite all the homegrown militias, I doubt it'll ever get to a civil war scenario. Modern Americans haven't got the stones for it.
