1  General / The Forum / Re: Should Banksy's artwork be listed? on: August 24, 2011, 15:33:48
I got interviewed by the BBC radio on Friday about this, I said it shouldn't and the guy interviewing me was really surprised.

I guess the others he asked were Banksy bummers.

I had the same yesterday, i think they thought i was going to agree with them. i took them on a bit of a tangent and said instead of wasting money protecting graff, they should put money into legal walls, See No Evil is only going to breed a whole new generation of vandals and allowing one group of artists to paint and not the other is only gonna resort to more illegal graff. you want skateboarders off the streets you make skateparks.. you wants writers off the streets you have to give um at least 1 legal spot, you don't get good at painting without practice

Whats wrong with the cat & wheel ?

It smells like piss and nobody who drinks in there has a job or adequate standards of personal hygiene.

Incorrect Noodle, you seemed to have jumped into a post without considering the facts. Reminds me of the time you said you had read Einsteins theory of relativity, then someone showed you a picture of the complete works and you were quickly owned. You comment does stack up if you count daytime, weekday drinking hours, when the only patrons are the four horseman of the piss stained apocalypse. However there is a fair few people on here who potentially take offence to what you have said  Bad Teeth

There's always loads of people who take offence to everything I say. Also it was the NIST report on tower 7 that I was owned with. I'm pretty sure you can fit the meat of relativity (at least the special sort) on a fag packet.

In all seriousness though, the Cat & Wheel is fucking crap.

Go on then give us the low-down, what do you reckon is at the root of all this? Some sort of red button issue that'd be easily solved in a few small steps if only the men in suits would listen for a minute?

Find some money to employ lots of people like me to do youth justice work to help disengaged young people and their surrounding neighbours. Didn't see any riots in Bath did ya now?!  Pimp

I'm guessing that's aimed at me and pretty much a text book example of why you're blocked. At what point have I said anywhere, ever, that there's a single issue or indeed that it's easily solved? Stop being such an internet warrior Noodle.

There's more causes than I can list or indeed, know about; I would start with failure of the education system in the UK, the control the media has to sway public opinion to their own benefit, the lack of faith in any authority figures. The generational decay of job security, social security and any belief in a subsistent life is achievable. The backwards restrictive drug laws (which you yourself have cried about) and the completely re-active health system in this country. The unrelenting aspirational advertising and pressure that modern western life applies to people, especially the underclass. These kids are future parents, how are they going to be able to raise further rational, understanding, sympathetic and educated children. Not even to mention the UKs gradual slipping from a dominant world power with massively funded armed forces still at war with other countries. It's a horrific cyclic degradation of people that's endemic with the last 20 years of government and lifestyle in the UK. You need only look to the US to see what the advanced stages of this process is.

Do you genuinely believe, if these people were well educated, have access to good and involving community projects, felt looked after by the state, they would be out on the streets? When you've got a young man who may not have travelled far outside his estate in his 17 years of life, has no decent level of education, constantly bombarded with images of how affluent life is combined with constant portrayal of corruption in the same people, these people who are supposed to be looking out for him. Of course he's going to be out on the streets. And in a year or two time, when he has a child who goes through the same oppressive environment, but is further ill equipped to deal with it rationally as his parents can't. Where does that leave him?

An interview that almost epitomises the contrast between understanding, or at least being able to appreciate some of the root causes of the current riots and assuming that they're all freeloading pricks who want new TVs at any cost is beautifully played out in this interview with someone with a detailed and experienced understanding of what's affecting these kids against some wholly offensive middle class right winger. The interviewer might as well have put her fingers in her ears and shouted over the guy talking.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-wIOFv2biPY

I can't state anything I say here is fact, my research relies on what I have read, my understanding of sociology, little though it is and speaking to people. I certainly can't suggest fixes, that is far beyond my knowledge, I do know drastic changes are needed, beyond what we middle class will be comfortable with. But the UK is no longer the economic and unified powerhouse it once was and we're all going to have make some shitty changes to deal with this. I also wholly agree there are plenty of opportunistic cunts taking advantage of the situation, but the difference between me and some members is that I don't think they created the situation.

Very good post Two Thumbs

the opinions of the local community do need to be respected IMO.

What about the oppinions of all those who support such an establishment opening?
If people are that passionate about having Costa coffee open on Gloucester road then i'm sure there are avenues for them to support the proposal. Although it seems to me that in situations like this those who oppose are much more active in making their voices heard than those who support the idea.

Couldn't give a f**k, we live in a free market economy last time I checked

It's not really that simple though is it

Maybe not but I still dont care if one is put there, there are about 20 cafe's / coffee shops on Gloucester road, costa coffee in that location will fail imo. No-one seemed to kick up a fuss when more independent cafe's opened up, worrying about its effect on the other cafe's did they ?. If someone wants to buy the franchise or whatever let them, its a massive risk in that area considering the competition

Maybe people in and around area would prefer to have more local/independent shops. As members of the community they have the right to petition against a business opening in the area that they don't approve of.

I remember when someone was gonna open a porn shop on Gloucester road and that was lobbied against successfully. I was actually pissed off that it didn't open  Perv, mmmhmmm, yummy *rubs hands* but the opinions of the local community do need to be respected IMO.

His value will definitely depreciate if he's in the stands next season, and what good would that realistically do Spurs? They'd still have to sell him next year, so it would simply be an exercise in punishing the player, and watching his value halve in the process. I can't see it. IMO he's going to Chelski. Don't get me wrong I think he's being a spoilt brat, but realistically player power is such that if they kick up enough of a stink, they can pretty much do what they want

His value will not halve. We don't need to sell him, we don't need the money. He still has 5 years left on his contract!! A players value only depreciates if he is unwanted by the club or he is nearing the final years of his contract.

The point is spurs are trying to close the gap with Chelsea. Us just rolling over and letting them take one of our best players makes them stronger and us weaker. Not only tha,t it will make Levy look like a mug by going back on a promise that none of our top players will be sold this summer. And it will mean everytime one of our best players throws their toys out of the pram that they get a move. Clubs like Chelsea and Man Utd will know all they have to do is unsettle a player and the move will happen.

Levy has made very strong statements this summer so I really don't think we will sell him during this window. Personally I can see the club letting him sulk for the whole of the season and then selling him abroad.
23  General / The Forum / Re: Football transfer talk - silly season has officially begun! on: July 11, 2011, 10:19:06
He has a 5 years left on his contract. He can't do sh*t!! How can he force his way out?? The manager said he is staying, the chairman said he is staying. He can cry all he wants but the club knows if they let him go to either Chelsea, Man City or Man Utd there are wider implications. We are trying to close the gap with chelsea and man utd not make it bigger.

If he only had 1 or 2 years left on his contract then I would agree that he would be off, but he only signed a 6 year contract a year ago. The chairman has come out on 3 seperate occasions stating very clearly none of our top players will be sold. If(and I don't think it will happen) he is sold then the chairmans position will be untenable and spurs will forever be viewed as a feeder club with no ambition. He ain't going. End of story.

Oh dear.

Quote
Luka Modric: Daniel Levy 'broke agreement' to let me leave Tottenham

• Chairman has gone back on a 'gentleman's agreement'
• Croatian intends to force through move to Chelsea this summer

guardian.co.uk,    Sunday 10 July 2011 13.01 BST

The Tottenham midfielder Luka Modric has reiterated his desire to leave for Chelsea this summer and accused his chairman, Daniel Levy, of going back on a gentleman's agreement between them that he would be allowed to move if a bigger club came in for him.

Chelsea have already had a £22m offer for Modric turned down by Spurs at the end of June, and the Croatian midfielder immediately sought talks with Levy on his return to pre-season training this week.

Levy confirmed after those talks on Thursday that Modric would not be leaving White Hart Lane and that the player understood the club's stance and was happy to remain at the club.

However, Modric told the Croatian newspaper, Sportske Novosti, that he had not considered the possibility of Spurs not allowing him to leave.

"I haven't thought about it at all because [not letting me go] would definitely not be good for anyone. I have already told the chairman that last summer he said we would find a mutually satisfactory agreement if a club like Chelsea came in.

"I hope that eventually he will understand the situation and that we will reach an agreement and go our separate ways in an appropriate manner."

Modric also revealed that in his meeting with the Spurs chairman Levy had said he was happy to let the midfielder spend the season rotting in the reserves if he did not honour his contract.

"A lot has been published in the press about the meeting with Levy, who gave the public a twisted account of what happened. I must say that I am genuinely disappointed about what Levy said to me. He didn't care about what I was telling him. It all only convinced me further that I was right to consider moving on to another club.

"I reminded the chairman of our gentleman's agreement when we were in Dubrovnik last summer and I agreed a contract extension with Tottenham. Then I had an open chat with Levy – that if a bigger club came in with a concrete offer, we would consider it and agree the best solution for all concerned.

"The chairman said, 'Okay, we'll sit and talk [about any offers]'. Now Levy doesn't want to talk to me and said there is no possibility that I can leave Spurs.

"He threatened me – he said if I didn't accept the club's stance, they would make me sit on the bench or in the stands."

Modric knows he is highly sought after by the Stamford Bridge club and their new manager, André Villas-Boas.

"There is no doubt that Chelsea want me – they sent a concrete offer to Tottenham. I know that the new Chelsea boss said he wants me in his team. Of course I am flattered by this interest in me, it's a club that all players dream of joining, fighting for every competition available.

"It wasn't a snap decision, I talked a long time with my family and people whose opinions I respect. I thought about it, weighed it all up, and finally decided this was the best option."

The clubs position hasn't changed. Modric can cry all he wants I guarantee he will still be a spurs player come September 1st. Modric moving to Chelsea has wider implications on how spurs are viewed by bigger clubs. If we just let him leave now he has spat his dummy out, then who next - Bale? VDV? I think Daniel Levy would literally rather let him rot in the stands than sell him to Chelsea so it would proabably be best if Modric kept his mouth shut or he could find that he won't be playing any football at all for the next season. His value won't depreciate so it makes no difference to the club.

I don't think any yids should have total faith in him staying - he clearly wants to go and while Spurs have the power he could still force his way out. Personally I think he's off

I bet y'all now that Liverpool finish 5th at best.

Teams as they are at this moment, they'll be top 3 IMO.

But I'll wait until the end of the transfer window before I put my money up.

Seriously mate do you really think Liverpool have a better squad than Chelsea, Man City or Man Utd?

No, and I am a Liverpool fan  Laugh

I reckon we have a good chance of top 4.

I cant see Arsenal doing anything next season, they are selling their two best players and still have not bought a decent keeper. I guess the window is still open for ages though so who knows, presumably they will just buy on a load of French 12 year olds nobody has ever heard of.

As for Spurs, not sure they are gonna do anything next year. I read that they might take Joe Cole of us,  that would be fucking hilarious, what a useless cunt he has turned out to be.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/competitions/premier-league/8622089/Premier-League-Transfer-Talk-Club-by-club-Football-Transfers-Football-Rumours-.html?

Spurs will not be in a good way if/when Modirc fucks off. Modric for Joe Cole, proper lol. They were in for Adam as well and he chose us.

Adam is a good signing for £7m or whatever, a lot more excited about him than Jordan Henderson tbh.

We are likely to buy a new left back (Enrique?) and a new winger (Mata / Downing -belm), I wouldn't be surprised to see us sell Miereles though.

Top 4 is do-able, not sure about anything else really, although with no European footy the squad will be less stretched and if we get a good start we good push Utd/Citeh/Chelski.

Have you not seen the latest news? Modric is staying. 5 year contract and we don't need the cash so he can do what he is told like a good boy. Spurs were in for Adam during the last few minutes of the January transfer window but haven't made any moves since as far as I know. Even if we did, at 9m i'm glad nothing came of it. That's a crazy price for a player who was bombed out of Glasgow Rangers for half a million two years ago.

Spurs will surprise a few people next season. We managed to finish 5th last season and get to the quarter finals of the champions league without having any quality strikers up front. Once we add quality of the ilk of Mirko Vucinic, Guiseppe Rossi or Fernando Llorente up front to our already class midfield I think we will be competing for the top four next season maybe even the top three.

Modric is on £45k a week, Chelski are offering him 135K a week.

Good luck with that one.

I take it you've been reading the Sun or watching Sky Sports News recently?

If you want to know the facts and not the bullshit those media outlets peddle then let me tell you he is 1 year into a 6 year contract worth £70k + a week. He ain't going anywhere, the club actually has the power in this instance. He can hand in a transfer request, which will be rejected. He can strike and the club will sue him for breach of contract. So SSN, The Sun and whatever other bullshit media outlets can try and sell him for us all they want it's not happening. I 100% guarantee you he will be a spurs player come the 1st September.

I actually think the top 4 is more of a top six now. Once everyone has finished their transfer business it will be interesting to see how it all pans out. Personally I think Liverpool will finish 5th or 6th. Yes they had a good second half of the season but historically teams always have an upturn in form when a new manager comes in. Daglish could be found out through the course of a whole season. If you actually look at Liverpools team how many truly world class(a debateable term, i know) players do they have - Gerrard? Reina? I can't think of any more. Where as if you look at Man City, Man Utd, Chelsea and even Spurs and they have more players that can make a difference. Liverpool may prove me wrong but I think they are still playing catchup with the top four to try and get back to their previous level.
28  General / The Forum / Re: Football transfer talk - silly season has officially begun! on: July 06, 2011, 22:58:27
Adam is a class act, anyone who thinks otherwise is a stupid.

Dalglish is rebuilding the 5 man midfield that had Alonso as the anchor. Adam is a great passer of the ball and this will let Gerrard off the leash, which is what he's needed since Xabi left.

It was 7.5 plus two loan signings for Adam, which equates to about 9 mill once you take the waving of loan fees into account. Most likely be Shelvey, not sure if Spearing is too good for the championship.

Liverpool will cause problems next season. They've already shown they can beat anyone on their day. And Suarez/Carroll is as formidable front two as any team in the prem.

Gerrard/Adam balls + Carroll's spam head = goals galore.

Adam was the main man at Blackpool it will be different in the pressure cooker at Anfield. Gerrard is the main man, he dictates play, he takes penalties and set pieces. All things that Adam was used to at blackpool. I think he looked good surrounded by average players. He is prem standard but I don't think he is gonna propel liverpool back into the top four next season. Don't even get my started on that 35million geordie thug...

Thought it was very well made tbh

Yep, and in 15 minutes it would have been hard to fit in any of the other genres (e.g D&B) that don't get a mention. Plus, there's an argument to say that Bristol now has some genuinely interesting and globally respected house/techno producers - something we lacked in the past - many of whom originally came from the "bass music" scene (copyright Baobinga) is a genuine story, journalistically speaking.

It's easy to pick holes in things and as a miserable pedant there are aspects of the film that I would whinge about, but it's still a great piece - a good watch and gives a great impression of Bristol as a thriving musical hub. It seems strange to see our city held up there with places like Berlin and Detroit, but in some circles that's how we're regarded. That in itself is pretty amazing.

I think this is probably me lol

I didn't want to come across as negative. The film is well made and as you point out it would have been hard to cover all aspects of the dance music scene in Bristol. I guess, as someone commented earlier, that it achieves its aim of focusing on parts of the scene that Resident Advisor readers would be interested in.

I am never gonna be down on anything that bigs up Bristol though. Overall the documentary is a positive thing no matter what perspective you are coming from.

I don't think it purports to be a comprehensive documentary on dance music and clubbing in Bristol though.  It's just a film made by Resident Advisor covering the scene relevant to their readers.

Yeh, yeh I know this. Just thought they would have given it more of a mention as Bristol is pretty much known worldwide for its drum and bass heritage.

Also there is a cafe just near the entrance of temple meads where all the hackney cab drivers go. It would be useful to leave a note on the noticeboard there.

Thats what I was told when I left my records in a cab a couple of years back.

36  General / The Forum / Re: Why do promoters not announce headliners? on: July 01, 2011, 14:47:04
Alot of the time its to do with the fact they're playing at another event close to the date. Out of courtesy the promoter who has the same DJ at a later date will advertise as 'Special guest' to allow the other club night who have them first to get a crowd off the name. When that event has passed the name of the special guest will be revealed in advertising.
37  General / The Forum / Re: Whats your Glastonbury highlights? on: July 01, 2011, 00:00:34
at least she's got a new nickname now - Bambi

Remembered another highlight too:
The hosts of this round of Come Down With Me on Monday night won a score of 9 from me. Rain shower, cute dog, home cooked food, bloody mary's and beer. And not having to drive to London until Tuesday. Win

Haha yes - Come Down With Me has been a big concept with our crew for a while now. Glad to see others are on it  Grin

Highs: Wu Tang
          Chemical Brothers
Sunday sunshine dub/reggae/bashment vibes - The Heatwave, Macka B, Mungo's etc  Slayer

Lows: Not actually pitching my tent for the 5 days I was there  Smashed
Passing out in a pile of hay/shit/mud on monday afternoon and missing my lift back to Briz  Doh!
          Blisters

Ah, how could I forget. Irration Steppas, The Heatwave ft. Rubi Dan and Lady Chann was a great look on the sunday  Puke

Justin - Sorry for being aggy at ShyFX, don't know what I said but remember your reaction, sorry dude

I don't think you said anything that bad to me I was just shocked at seeing a woman with a bushy moustache who apparently knew me lol. Seriously though, I think I was just mashup so had a generally messed up face which could have been mistook for being outraged at something  Laugh

I can't remember the specifically which days and what venues each artist played at Smashed so in no particular order.

Julio Bashmore + Shadz
Addison Groove + Koast
Ms Dynamite
Netsky + Carasel
Wu Tang
Chase & Status Live
Youngsta followed by DBridge killing it in the London Underground  Slayer
Digital Soundboy showcase at The Hub
Loadstar outside WOW! tent
SL2 followed by Calyx / Teebee and Carasel on the final night

Lowlight - Hearing Morrisey whining on the main stage made me want to reach for the noose.

Generally wondering around  Smashed for the majority of the festival was a highlight. But it has meant this week has been  Cry  Cry

Wasn't Falcao saying he'd welcome the challenge of moving to Tottenham?!

Sneijder himself has come out today saying he loves Milan too much to leave... But stranger things have happened. Really can't see Harry flogging Modric either.

I reckon Neymar will be a city target tbh. He's exactly what the club needs to take it to the next level - young, full of flair, huge in a foreign Market and has a Ronaldo-esq air about him. He looks unbelievable. Can see them hijacking a Chelsea move tbh.

yeah can defo see that - they've been ominously quiet... reckon they're just waiting for the others to move knowing they can trump them financially AND offer Champs League.

Haven't seen that about Sneijder, maybe he is staying. I'd rather live in Milan tbh!

Did Falcao say that before or after Spurs failed to get Champs League? I'd be very surprised if he went to Spurs. Maybe if no-one wanted him though

Would love Falcao or any striker who can actually hit the back of the net on a regular basis tbh. Knowing Harry though he will probably try and coax Sheringham and Sir Les out of retirement  instead of buying the kind of world class striker we need  Bad Teeth

You've got to wonder why the people spreading the most shit in this thread have logged in under different alias. If you're that sure about the 'information' you're posting why hide your identity?

Cash machine?

Someone mentioned earlier (in this thread) that it was already being installed... at the back of the store.

So that's a cash point inside the Tesco? WTF is the point in that (unless it's going to be 24 hour).

P.s. In slightly unrelated, but still excellent, news, those lovely guys who run the newsagent opposite Sainsbury's at the bottom of Gloucester Road are going 24 hour in June. No longer will I have to fork over my cash to the surly and miserable shower of cnuts at The Best for my after-hours boozing pleasure.

Big news. I was worried they might go out of business when sainsbury opened. At least now they have opened themselves up to the wrong un market Smashed

is there a way we can get a subsidised ticket just for Ultramagnetic's? else will just have to ninja into Oceana and watch from the balcony...!!

Day tickets are around £30.. your looking at that to go see one band at 02 these days..! jus deal with it

Looking forward to this!

Yeah you say that, but this lineup isn't that special for £35 a day considering potentially 20,000 ticket sales, £700,000 potential revenue, with a lineup that probably cost no more than £30-40k max.. Somebody is gonna be making a lot of money  Pimp

"The south-wests most exhilirating festival" LOL I don't even need to comment on that.. Plus, why call it a festival? I guess I'm a bit old fashioned, but I allways thought a festival should be on grass  NERD ALERT!

and you know this how?

Well i had an eventful morning. Our bins have been left out but not emptied for 5-6 weeks.. So this morning i was up earlier to catch them out. The wagon pulls up , i jump out from behind the bush and confront them " 'er mate, how come you missed me three times on the trot?".... he says "well we don't never see your bin be , its always behind the bush"... i reply "its on the path mate, in plain sight - you got no excuse" whilst saying this im putting the sacks on top of the bin, i paid my ctax so imo he is taking the rubbish. I hears a "hey" , the driver was calling to the loader to leave all my rubbish "we aint got time for that, dont take it" he says.. i of course in my usual way say " you fuking asshole" "why you taking the piss"?... in that moment i pick up the sacks and continue to dispose of my own rubbish into the back of the wagon, as i come back round there he is, the driver has now jumped out the wagon and he is coming at me with a fist (like a ninja) , i shimmy to left , duck into my garden and grab a brick...

well needless to say they took my rubbish and i didn't have to disable some sita scum over a few bin bags, which was really odd because as i was telling him that i didnt want to scave his head in but if he takes one step forward and tries to attack me again he would become a paraplegic , and who will pick up the rubbish then? he still seemed as if he wanted to? maybe i should have hit him? who knows.

fukin sita. fukin people. fukin bristol.

WOW. How are old are you again?

Assuming this really is a 'clinical trial', in clinical conditions, can you imagine how shit it'll be?

Coke: Subjects become noticeably more talkative, before descending into paranoia at the thought of several million people watching them on live TV.

Weed: Subjects become noticeably less talkative, before descending into paranoia at the thought of several million people watching them on live TV.

Booze: Subjects become noticeably more talkative, before pissing in the bin in the corner of the room.

Ecstasy: Subjects become noticeably more talkative, before trying to hug Sir David Frost (who I sincerely hope will be presenting this shambolic excuse for a television show).

Heroin: Subjects slump in their seat for two hours, before leaning over to be sick into the magazine rack.
