1  General / The Forum / Re: 10 years on - roll call! on: March 21, 2018, 14:43:39
Nice to see a few people still look at the board.

I tend to pop by for a cursory scroll down the front page every few weeks and it makes me a little wistful.

I actually ended up looking at the board today as Facebook told me it was 11 years since I joined there. It reminded me that I was talked into joining Facebook by @Carlybag (just realised that the @ tag doesn't work on here!)  Roll Eyes and at the time I said "why the hell do I need this place when we have Hijack!"  Laughing

*On that note one thing that Hijack has that Facebook doesn't (and really needs) is these guys:  Smashed  Perv, mmmhmmm, yummy *rubs hands*  Tomato Slayer!  Bad Teeth

I'm still in Bristol. Still make it to clubs regularly but mainly in a work capacity as I'm a full-time events promoter. I guess I have Hijack to thank for helping me get started out promoting. Thankfully poster wars is now largely a thing of the past though.

I'm 10 years into a relationship with a lovely lass (who was never a member on here) and we own a house and a cat.

Still in regular contact with a few old members including Obscene (we share an office) Carlybag, Bandit / TS2W (who I run the events company with), Keef and a few others. Would be cool to see a fee more of you about too although I expect a Hijack party is out of the question these days.

Glad to see that a few others still check on here occasionally too.
2  General / The Forum / Hijack still has the best Emojis on: May 24, 2017, 01:27:15
Until Facebook, Apple IOS, etc. catch up to these essentials:

Doh!

Slayer

Perv, mmmhmmm, yummy *rubs hands*

Smashed

Hijack is still the winner for me...

I've lost count of the number of times recently that the Face Palm and Smashed smilies in particular would have been perfect!
3  General / The Forum / Re: Nobody posts here anymore on: May 03, 2017, 13:15:01

Also, I miss  Bad Teeth

On a daily basis I lament the fact that neither Facebook or Apple IOS have adopted this guy--->  Smashed

There are so many occasions when it would be perfect.  Sad

Bit of a shit effort so far this year IMO. I was expecting massive swarms terrorising the town, not just the odd ant pottering about.  Roll Eyes

Yeah I thought that to.  I remember when the same thing happened in SW19; things were very different.  Roll Eyes

Carpets of the bastards dying around your feet!
24  General / The Forum / Re: FAO: Love Saves the Day on: June 05, 2014, 09:44:21
On a related note I was wondering yesterday how come everyone is kicking off about how LSTD have turned Castle Park in to mud and ruined it for all the lunchtime office workers who normally enjoy sitting on the grass etc... But yet nobody seems to have mentioned the fact that 2 huge sections of Queen Square are also out of action after that Bristol Eat, Drink thing that was there last month?

 Huh
25  General / The Forum / Re: FAO: Love Saves the Day on: May 31, 2014, 14:07:32
This place has seriously died on its arse if people (even if it is just wold) are complaining about people doing drugs at a festival.
Script

I used to be on here for hours every day. Just came on here for my weekly catch up - read this thread - and remembered why I tend not to bother with this place any more.  Cry

:edit:

Haven't posted on here for ages.. I'm nothing to do with Team Love or Motion.

But 1984, you're evidently a complete tosser with nothing more to do than complain. Bristol has a distinct lack of dance-orientated 'festivals' considering the pool of talent and market potential, stating that you're going to complain by writing letters to the chief constable is an all time low, even for you.

Life is about trade-off's.. You can't tick every box! Most people I know who attended had a great time. The council's own words.. "The council says the festival brings many people into the city centre, boosting trade and the city’s image."

IMO (and I assume most others..) the gained value all-round out weighs the negatives.

I think once you calm down, in time you'll see sense and realise you're being a twat.

27  General / The Forum / Re: Where to buy serato control vinyl in Bristol? on: April 12, 2014, 23:19:58
I was after Serato control vinyls a couple of months ago as mine were fecking warped. I went down to Chemical and they actually didn't have any. Apparently their account with the supplier was no longer active or something... I ended up buying 2 copies of some Skream & Zed Bias vinyl that had a Serato tone on the flip side as that was all I could find.
Sadly I think mail order online is your best option now.

DAWN DAY NIGHT live (Astrophonica/Exit Records/ aka Fracture)
www.facebook.com/dawndaynight

Dawn Day Night and Fracture bring some distinctly rotten stylings with their zombie skank and hallowe’en bass. Somewhere between masterful satire and cartoonish horror, their debut single Get Busy on Exit and Re-Animations EP on Astrophonica could be a statement about rehashed rhythmic templates, neuro-toxicity, or modern-day counter culture: either way, the drums roll and the bass booms, and that’s as much as we need to know. In their own words:

"Before the outbreak in Ridley Road in Dalston, the market was full of exotic food, clothes and spices. Now all that’s left is a sea of mindless undead beings roaming the streets, a non stop 808 rumble and the stench of chicken bones. All this because of a record. It looked different. It sounded different. The results of playing it were catastrophic. As soon as Dawn Day Night’s 2012 debut EP was played, a ritual began. Unbeknown to music lovers all over the world, they had given Dawn Day Night the power to walk the earth once again. His power grew stronger and then came the re-animation of the undead booty shakers; the ‘Re-Animations EP’. Europe felt the full force of the infection over the summer as he traveled from country to country spreading his contagious dance moves and recruiting his army."

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

SAM BINGA (Critical/Exit Records)
www.facebook.com/sambingamusic

Something’s happening to the faster side of dance music. Maybe it’s the hyperactive influence of juke’s chopped-up 808s, the embrace of dubstep’s half-time flow at a higher tempo or perhaps it’s simply the ongoing evolution of the mutation started by dBridge and the Autonomic podcasts. Whatever the origin, that spectrum of music between 160 and 170bpm is sounding utterly vital once again.

If you’re fully in the know, or if you pay attention to wider movements in the music world, you’ll realise that there’s some serious weight behind the Sam Binga name, with countless gigs and worldwide tours covering pretty much the whole spectrum of underground dance music under his belt. But that’s not important right now: what’s important is that mix of dirty-south swagger, Chi-town footwork and UK pressure people like Sam Binga are bringing to the table. Fresh, weird and strictly fire on the dance floor.

Breakage's "Foundation" set at the Exit birthday party was wicked. Just him playing loads of classic old Breakage and lots of deep jungley vibes.  LIGHTAH!
38  General / The Forum / Re: Chemical Records - Gone into adminstration on: July 31, 2013, 11:55:11

The clothing business probably generates several times the revenue that music/vinyl sales do and they are probably just re-branding to focus on the clothing side of the business. Chemical Records would be a pretty whack name for a clothing focused company after all

They've already been calling themselves "Chemical UK" for quite a while as far as I know. Look at the logo top left on the homepage.  Two Thumbs

His copies of "2 degrees" and "tune your bass" must be without doubt entirely fucked. Not ever heard him play a set since about 1996 without them in.  Doh!

 Laugh
He did actually apologise for the quality of some of the tunes in the mix when he delivered it to us.

Still it is bloody nice to hear a proper old skool vinyl only, one take mix. You don't get many in these days of Traktor and Ableton etc.  NERD ALERT!

The Blast are very proud to present an exclusive 1 hour mix of classic jungle and 90s DnB from a true Jungle legend ahead of his upcoming appearance at STB on the 7th June at Motion Bristol. The mix is packed full of exclusives and rare dubplates and is definitely one for the heads.

The Lanes (or more precisely the London based company who own the Lanes etc) have bought it and are apparently turning it into a "Craft Beer" venue...  Undecided

I shall reserve judgement until I see it.

RIP to the Croft nevertheless.  LIGHTAH!
Yeah. Still lost a roots music venue. Stokes Croft and fine ales doesn't really go together in my head.

If the success of Brew Dog and the like is anything to go by (Not to mention the obscene queues who line up outside the Canteen every weekend) then I think it will probably do well. Also fro what I know of their London pubs they're actually pretty good in terms of decor, offering etc. Personally I am partial to a few interesting beers from time to time. Just sad to see The Croft go. Had some epic nights there over the years.
