Was proper scary plus it was never clear that it was hoax and fooled a lot of people resulting in shit loads of complaints -  someone even committed suicide over it I seem to remember.
it was meant to have inspired the people who made the Blair Witch Project.    Ahead of it's time, but I don't think the public were ready for it in 1992.

60  General / The Forum / A Night Of Live Electronic Music and Bands at the Louisiana 01st Nov on: October 27, 2011, 14:38:25

Lucid Sky Presents a Night of Live Electronic Music and Bands at the Louisiana 1st November:

Live:

VACANT SHORES:

A Bristol based electronic duo formed in June 2011. A mix of old analog hardware, synths and software have been used to create lush, reverb-soaked electronica, incorporating elements of Ambient, Dubstep, Witchhouse, Shoegaze, IDM and Chillwave.

http://soundcloud.com/these-vacant-shores

MY CHLOROFORM:

My Chloroform was formed in 2008 by Kate and Richard Sparkes and were later joined by Emma Holbrook. Their intention was to create a fresh new sound by combining rhythmic elements of trip hop with the psychedelic sounds of synths and guitars more reminiscent of early Pink Floyd and 80s cult band Japan, with further influences from Massive Attack, Portishead and Unkle.

http://www.myspace.com/mychloroform

KAYLA PAINTER:

Kayla Painter works with sounds to create electronic music which lends itself well to visual art, film, and animation. In her solo visual work she uses lights and found materials to play with the relationship between sound and image. In her composition work she aims to write unique music, sharing and interpreting the artists vision.

Live, Kayla plays her original compositions through a program called Ableton Live using midi controllers. Her music could be described as ambient, bass heavy, and plays with interesting rhythms. Drawing influences from her biggest heroes, The Beatles, Kayla's work is accessible and humorous, but is still rigorous and stands up to other dance-floor musical genres.

Tuesday 1st Novemeber: at the Louisiana Bristol. Doors open at 8PM Door tax 4

75  General / The Forum / Re: NEW VENUE LAUNCHING IN SEP/OCT - Needs Saterday events! on: June 21, 2011, 13:49:42
Good luck with this and nice to see the Arc back. We used to run regular nights at the place back in the day and did one of the last ever parties before it closed and then turned in to LAB.  Hope the roof is now fixed, the place used to flood frequently and we used to get regular electric shocks from the wiring, but it was all good -  some of the best nights were to be had at the Arc.
We always found that downstairs worked well for the more mellow or chilled out sounds with the upstairs being used for the more messy stuff.  Will be nice to come back as a punter and see how things have changed.

78  General / The Forum / Re: Who would you like see play at Bris Fest? on: June 10, 2011, 11:26:02
Are Big Joan playing yet?

Bands generally hate playing battle of the bands and some won't do it on principle. Also festivals that run voting systems where bands have to hassle their mates to vote for them on line are also despised. Ashton Court had a well regarded system where you had to submit a demo by a certain date. These were listened to by a panel. Another good thing about this was the rejection letter. At least bands felt they got heard and their efforts didn't go to waste. I know this is a lot of work for the organisers to wade through demos, but I think it's an excellent way to hear great bands (and lots of sh*t ones).
I don't think it's always a case of promoters and their mates, there are some good local acts that deliver at festivals (Babyhead for example). But I think if you are putting on a local festival and showcasing local talent. Then you should also be looking to the wild cards and digging deep to find new and exciting stuff. Again, something Ashton Court was always good at. You find something exciting in your backyard which you may never have come across.

Yerp. battle of the bands for a slot at a festival sucks and  I always liked the Ashton Court selection -  also these days bands don't have to send demos then can just post
Soundcloud links etc.

Hi - Liking the tunes.

Have started an electronic band with lots of hardware instead of software.  Here are some of the results.

This one is Kind of Retro Synth Electro and a bit wonky:

<a href="http://player.soundcloud.com/player.swf?url=http%3A%2F%2Fapi.soundcloud.com%2Ftracks%2F16715439" target="_blank">http://player.soundcloud.com/player.swf?url=http%3A%2F%2Fapi.soundcloud.com%2Ftracks%2F16715439</a>

I dunno what this is - you decide.

<a href="http://player.soundcloud.com/player.swf?url=http%3A%2F%2Fapi.soundcloud.com%2Ftracks%2F16147023" target="_blank">http://player.soundcloud.com/player.swf?url=http%3A%2F%2Fapi.soundcloud.com%2Ftracks%2F16147023</a>

At present they are only demos.  We hope to studio record them if we get enough interest.

Peas.

Not meaning to troll here, but I thought Snoo was Adam from Big Joan. . I might be wrong. Who knows eh?
It's cool. I'll clear this up! The Singer from Big Joan is my lady (aka Annette Berlin) and I've been friends with the Joaners for a long time. I wouldn't put their names forward if I didn't think they were up to the task. In fact it's because I've seen them play so much I know they'd smash it. Like I said, if Cheba wants to check them out to see if they are up to task I'll get him a guestie if possible or cover the entry myself (Money>Mouth is). People like Parasite may be able to back Me up as he put one of their releases out on Death$ucker.

Here is a review of them playing Harbourside last year (Dunno why they have a picture of Annette drumming though?)
http://listomaniabath.com/reviews/big-joan-at-harbourside-festival/

If I was trying to be sneaky I should probably hype the Annette Berlin band as that's something I'm actively involved in. But I genuinely believe you should put on Big Joan.

That's all fair enough. Fair play as they say in Bristol.

Jungle djs in their mid 40's

Fixed.

Seriously. BIG JOAN. Ask anyone who's seen them. In fact they have a few gigs in the pipe line so I'll post them up. If you want to take a look Cheba I'll see if I can have a word and sort you a guestie.

Nothing like a bit of self promotion.

Yeah, except I'm pretty sure Snoo isn't in Big Joan.

yup Two Thumbs  did that for miss dynamite last night - totally worth it too even if she was only on for about 35 minutes  Slayer Slayer LIGHTAH!

In my world a suitable replacement for UMC's would be someone like;

- Edan
- Organized Konfusion
- EPMD
- Jeru Tha Damaja
- Slick Rick
- Tricky... (actually this would be immense)

woot!

If they could get Tricky, then even I'd buy a ticket!
