on the road by jack kerouac is a pile of toss
Some good bits, but fuck, he needs to learn how to redraft, because most of it is rubbish. Also (and this might be my biggest issue with it), that book is responsible for so many crap writers. Certainly for writers remaining crap, rather than bothering to learn any bloody craftsmanship. oh dear someone completely missed the point how can on the road be responsible for so many crap writers? if someone is a crap writer thats their fault not jack kerouacs, lame reasoning anyway this thread is for people to talk about their favourite books not to rubbish other peoples choices But unfortunately, the majority of what 'just pops in' to people's heads is boring, or bollocks, or both. Kerouac was obviously gifted, and On The Road does contain some excellent bits of writing. I just found the majority of it boring, and annoyingly self-important. Obviously IMO. fair point
