52  General / The Forum / Re: Bay window replacement on: November 29, 2012, 13:56:20
Im in a similar boat, got old fashioned lead light windows that are leaking all around the lead work. They are in curved bays as well, just to make it interesting (and extra expensive)
Seems it'd be just as expensive to have the windows re-leaded in the traditional style as it would be to have them replaced with double glazing. I really don't want plastic windows as they're horrible, but would quite like the extra insulation of double glazing.

I'd end up so conflicted between my own strongly held values and beliefs and the general will of the populace that I'd end up a useless pile of jelly on the floor

Yeah, realistically I'd probably end up in the same boat. But until I have to face that reality I'm pretty sure i'd save the world and make everything better.

Capping profits and wages at a sensible amount would be one place i'd start.

Had a panic in the polling booth when faced with a long list of people i didn't want in charge and tried to figure out who to vote for to deny the worst getting in power. Since everyone's either been saying "vote for fergs to stop labour", or "vote for marti to avoid redtrousers" - wtf do you do if you don't want either of them! nearly had a breakdown until i decided it probably wasn't worth stressing about

What's George Ferguson's actual policies then?  It's not really apparent from his website.

i don't really believe he has any. It's all wishy washy marketing speak. It's all what he wants to do with no indication that he has any idea how he'd do it
Script
Crack magazine seem to be behind him running with a picture of Massive Attack with him. Who are also supporting him they say.

Don't believe the hype! he's just got the slickest press/marketing team. He's put out shitloads more publicity than the other candidates, almost all of it deceptively using that Post headline from months ago (but reprinting it to omit the date so it looks current) claiming him to be the bookies fav.
It's that kind of sneakyness that makes me distrust him, and fear he will put his own and his buddies' business interests first. I'm not quite sure what the merchant venturers are, but i don't like the sound of them.

Everyone I know that has worked at the tobacco factory hates him, and says he's a despicable person to be around, that's enough for me.

Just incase the good people of Hijack haven't heard already...

There's a bloody great big afterparty in the Ashton Court Mansion on Saturday the 22nd, so when you leave Brisfest, you only have to walk 100m (ish) to keep raving!

Lineup:
--Room 1--

Luke Vibert
Nick Warren (Way Out West / Hope Recordings)
Doc Daneeka
DJ Cheeba (Full AV Set)
Run Tingz
Lumen

Mapped visuals by Limbic Cinema

--Room 2--

Alfresco Disco

They’re keeping their cards close to their chests as always, but needless to say the infamous bespoke party squad will have more than a few treats in store..

Sound by Ohmen Audio

--Room 3--

Unity

Sets from all of the biggest and best Bristol club nights representing the dance music community.

Intrigue
Sureskank
Empathy/ Blowpop/ DOP
We Dont Play
FFTT
Bass Kitchen
Bedmo Disco

Sound by SmokeLife
Mapped visuals by Limbic Cinema

Plus outside there'll be a massive bar/chillout/marquee  & smoking area. Plus hot tubs and inflatable fun!

10pm - 4am

Its £25 a ticket, which - before I get jumped on by the hijack price police - I know is alot, especially in comparison to the ultra cheap weekend ticket, but we're not trying to spin a quick profit on you, its just expensive to put this on at the mansion! If you just think of it as £55 for the whole weekend festival & afterparty then that's still bloody cheap  Wink

that's a bloody long article, i was quite enjoying it when i gave up and just started skimming down towards the end. Finding this snippet has made me really want to finish reading it properly:

"That was the lesson of Coki’s set at Belvedere’s Ultra-Dive on Butler Street in Pittsburgh one Wednesday night. The last time I had been to the venue, the world-renowned noise duo Lightning Bolt had filled the space with a screeching, claustrophobic din that was produced, improbably, by a single drummer and bass player. It was the sound of someone tuning a radio into armageddon.

By contrast, Coki delivered the sound of that same radio listener settling into the aftermath of armageddon: zero history and zero panic, just a timeless frequency so simple and so large as to fill up the entire room, to fill one's entire existence for an hour or two."

what are beardymans shows like these days? havn't seen him in a coupla years now, is he doing a cookery show?
The improv stuff I saw him do at the Cube was very good. When I've seen him doing DJ style set. Going through jungle, D&B hip hop etc it's been pretty dull, with occasional amusement. I think it bored Bangface to death a few years ago.

I think he's brought it back to the more experimental, nonsensical and amusing side after going too far into the middle of the road a couple of years ago  Wink

84  General / The Forum / stolen projector on: June 07, 2012, 20:39:33
I've just been informed that someone stole one of my projectors that was used for stokes croft streetfest (or whatever it was called) at hamilton house. I wasn't there, but it sounds like it was stolen the day after the event when they were packing down. It's an Optoma EP747 and looks like this:

If anyone notices that their mate has mysteriously acquired a new projector then please ask them to return it, no charges will be pressed, and i'd be happy to offer a small reward to anyone that aids its return (other than the person who stole it in the first place!)

Thankyou.
85  General / The Forum / Re: Car Vs Bike incident driver found guilty on: May 01, 2012, 15:58:24
Yeah my mates been talking about getting a gopro camera for his helmet for just such purposes. he's been knocked off a few times recently.

Doesn't really sound like full justice to in the op, don't see why someone that fails to stop after knocking someone off their bike should ever be allowed to drive again really, especially after a previous conviction.

87  General / The Forum / Re: this years see no evil project on: May 01, 2012, 10:11:17
The whole object turns and the comp is tracking how the different textures would change under the light source. Live tracking/mapping.

yeah i guess it's more impressive from a technical point of view than from a wow factor point of view, they are very nice textures. Don't think it's camera tracking tho if that's what you mean, the servo will replicate the virtual model's movement so the projection stays mapped, doesn't need to 'track' what's happening in the real world
88  General / The Forum / Re: this years see no evil project on: May 01, 2012, 09:32:25
Projection mapping isn't 3d projection, its mapping onto 3d objects. That being said, there is of course stereoscopic projectors but people would require the glasses.

This is the latest projection mapping shiznicks (and its utterly insane considering its realtime)
http://vimeo.com/40670699

Saying that, it's AntiVJ doing the show. I wouldn't even know what the term projection mapping meant if it wasn't for these guys.

Didn't quite see what was so insane about that video tbh? looked pretty standard mapping with some well lit metallic textures.

I'd much rather it was mapping than actual 3d projection, although, i spose 3d mapping done with actual 3d projection could be bloody amazing, but the glasses are just so annoying.

I'm sure with Joanie doing it it'll be a lot more exciting than just exploding bricks, or they'll atleast be very very nice exploding bricks.

And so glad upfest are involved this year, it seemed a bit of a kick in the teeth to have them not involved last year, on such a high budget event when they've been putting in loads of work building a rep doing essentially a very similar thing for years

What Steve said really.  They ain't as stupid as you think they are.  It's a win win for the Tories really.  As well as diverting the attention from Cash-For-Access and the rip offf budget, they get to demonise the unions AND get enough spending at the end of this quarter to barely keep us out of recession.

Quote
Today the OECD has predicted a possible double dip and estimated negative growth for Q1. The government has responded by saying that OECD have not taken latest data into consideration and that they’re confident OBR will show Q1 just about positive.

Comeon, if we can think this up I'm sure they can.

 Script Script Script

the lib dems may be stupid, but unfortunately the tories are terrifyingly smart. (at least a few of them are anyway before anyone posts a picture of boris)
