I made the mistake of picking up fallout 3 for £2 from Game the other week.  There goes my social life / any chance of finishing music stuff for a few months I am laughing, but I am also sad

I got this the other week. Played it for a bit, found it boring and shelved it. I might play it again, but so far I'm not sure it has much appeal to me. A bit grey and dull.

Same here at first, then gave it another chance over the weekend and lost a good 7 hours to it (being an evil theiving bastard to everyone possible and getting away with it lol).  Might have to bin it if I want to ever get anything useful done again IRL.

On closer inspection, Coffee#1 is owned by S A Brain

http://www.sabrain.com/tenant/news/107159

In their own words they own '250 pubs across Wales, the West Country and the Midlands' - they even have pubs with Costa Coffee franchises inside - http://www.morningadvertiser.co.uk/General-News/SA-Brain-teams-up-with-Costa-coffee

Yay - go independents!

To be fair, I worked for the first ever Coffee #1 in Cardiff way back in the early '00s and it was totally independant, owned by some posh old boy called Tony  Two Thumbs

Anyone know of any good YouTube channels I can look into for decent quality tutorials on Ableton, both production and mixing / mastering? I've had a look but not found much - and those channels I have found only offer 1 or 2 vids from the last couple of years. I'd like something regularly updated if possible...

Installed it today and I am confuuuuuuuuuuused!

Dubspot are pretty good: http://www.youtube.com/user/DubSpot

But if you've just installed it, go through the lessons that come with it (the ones that you can pop up on the right hand of the screen).  They cover a lot of what you need to know and have example files etc  Two Thumbs
65  General / The Forum / Tonight >> Subsoil Sessions @ B45 - Ill Blu / Funkystepz / Kidkut / Wascal on: November 11, 2011, 13:06:44

ROOM 1

ILL BLU ( Rinse FM - Hyperdub - Numbers)

Ill Blu need no introduction to anyone who has been listening to underground music in the last few years. A production duo from London who formed in late 2007, made up of 2 producers Def1 and Jreel they have been smashing the UK Funky scene since it started. Productions such as Blu Magic, Dragon Pop and Bellion got people's heads turning including the Hyperdub head honcho Kode9 and Numbers boss Jackmaster who quickly signed them up. These guys have a lot more to give the scene so keep looking out for them.

http://www.facebook.com/ILLBLU?ref=ts&sk=info

FUNKYSTEPZ (Hyperdub - F.L.Y Forever Live Young)

Who better to follow on from Ill Blu than Funkystepz. Funkystepz again with Ill Blu should be well known to most of you. They are four creative producers Stimpy, Renay, Scrufizzer, Twitch and DJ Maxsin who can't put a foot wrong when it comes to releases. Fuller, Windstorm and Hurricane Riddim just some of their productions which were absolutely massive not just in the UK Funky scene. Like Ill Blu they have been signed up by Kode9's growingly funky infused Hyperdub label. Ones to watch for sure!

http://www.facebook.com/pages/Funkystepz/206689382728618?ref=ts

Ill Blu and Funkystepz will be supported in Room 1 by Subsoil residents J1 and Round Eye. Round Eye is a Bristol based DJ and one of the founders of Subsoil Sessions and has a lot of big things to come so watch this space! .London / Brighton based DJ J1 will be helping Round Eye get the vibes going before the two headliners. Expect House, Techno and BASS from J1 and Round Eye.

J1's Soundcloud http://soundcloud.com/jezz1

Opening up Room 1 for the first time at Subsoil Sessions will be Nedd Kelly. Nedd will be easing us into the night with Deep House and Techno.

ROOM 2

KIDKUT (Applepips - Well Rounded)

Bristol's own Kidkut produces house with a 2-step element at work. His realease I love 04/Lilt embodies his older styles, though his newer productions, in particular One Year Later/ Vanilla Imitate with Arkist have more in common with deep house. Expect a housey set from Kidkut, headlining Room Two.

WASCAL (TTKK)

Another up and coming Bristol producer, who has been playing a lot in recent times, and has gathered praise from Submerse and Mary Ann-Hobbs. His productions have a future garagey/dubstep vibe. In late 2010 he released 6 tracks on his own record label TTKK. Check out Know You, it's massive. Definitely someone worth keeping your eye on.

SQUAREHEAD

The talented Squarehead is a great example of some of the producers coming out of Sheffield right now. Releasing his first EP Move Your Body in June which contained the massive hit TNH, and in the process gaining support from Radio One's Toddla T, Melι and Rinse FM's Monki this guy is heading for the top and he's only 18!

http://www.facebook.com/Squareheaduk

Mi5chief is the other man behind Subsoil. Also Bristol based, he'll be bringing old skool garage flavours on the acetate.

Tickets are available from Bristol Ticket Shop for £6 + booking fee or from Antoni or Jamie on 07758271927 and 07533748003 for the guestlist. On the night tickets will be £6 before 12 and £8 after.

There were other things like turning up at brisfest meetings to offer the club free and their offer just being ignored,

Interesting - I played at Clockwork for a Bristol Festival Fundraiser: http://www.hijackbristol.co.uk/board/the-forum/bff-sessions-19th-dec-clockwork-dj-kryptik-wascal-b2b-superisk/

Get on to Amazon 'Mechanical Turk' or any of the other microworking / freelancing sites.  Tedious work (ie; writing a review or doing a few lines of data entry of copy-checking for 50p a pop) but if you're so bored you can't even be bothered to play computer games then its something to do that at least earns you money while killing time.

Quick disclaimer - I tried this once and lasted about a day and a half before I was so bored I gave up completely, having made roughly £12.

Buy a K800i from ebay for about £40-£50.

get a giff gaff sim. Will only cost you £10 a month with 250 mins talk time and unlimeted internets and texts

http://giffgaff.com/goodybags

^^^^^^  Wink

there's literally no point having anything else...unless your too poor to buy the phone you want up front. it runs on the O2 network and the data is fast, reception good and there is no need for customer service as everything always works. 0800 & 0500 calls are free, unlimited data and gg to gg calls and texts are free.

If you order your sim through my 'promote site' both myself and you get an extra £5 credit  Shocked

92  General / The Forum / Re: DJing and music production software for 11-16 yr olds on: September 23, 2011, 16:27:35
...but you can get Traktor to do the beat-matching itself, so they can learn other stuff like structure first, then maybe teach them to beat-match later...

Why on earth would you want to turn off beat matching on Traktor if you were a kid learning to DJ in 2011?  Serious question btw.

94  General / The Forum / Re: DJing and music production software for 11-16 yr olds on: September 23, 2011, 12:56:53
I used to do a bit of youth work teaching kids to DJ back in Wales in the early '00s - mainly trying to explain to kids that the Eminem record and the So Solid record will never beatmatch, while they generally beat lumps out of each other and tried to burn or nick stuff.  Good times  Laugh

On the software front you want something as instant as possible with the minimum amount of settings / things to frustratingly go wrong, so avoid cubase etc.

You can get Traktor Lite free with the most basic DJ controllers, same applies for the Lite version of Ableton (which you could use like garageband if you had a load of loops.)   Two Thumbs

97  General / The Forum / Re: D&B Producers / DJs and their hardnut mugshots. on: September 20, 2011, 11:58:21
A few months back I had Mixmag offer me 'breaks tune of the month' and 5 stars for the EP I had out on Louse, but they needed a press photo at 24 hours notice.  I had no press photos and no inclination to get any done, so they bumped the review down to 4 starts and no tune of the month.  Fuck press photos imo  Smashed
