In a bid to shake off my studio tan and get fit after a decade+ of sofa-based tune tweaking I've been training to run Bristol Half Marathon on 11th September this year. Any of you who know me personally will know I can be pretty bone-idle so getting in shape to run this has been no mean feat Wink

I'm running to raise money for Leukemia & Lymphoma Research - if you have a few pennies to donate you can here: http://www.justgiving.com/Will-Lisa-RunNinjas/

Simple:

10:00 Wake up and press 'snooze button', go back to sleep
10:03 Wake up and press 'snooze button', go back to sleep
10:06 Wake up and press 'snooze button', go back to sleep
10:09 Wake up and press 'snooze button', go back to sleep
10:12 Wake up and press 'snooze button', go back to sleep
10:15 Wake up and press 'snooze button', go back to sleep
10:19 Wake up and press 'snooze button', realize the time and have a quck shower in a blind panic about being late
10:25 Wolf down a bowl of cereal and leg it to work

Works best if you stay up far too late the night before  Two Thumbs

I also have a large deck stand for sale   -  it's sturdy enough, fits 2 decks and a thin mixer but could add extra top wood to enable a larger mixer, and has a full length shelf for 12" storage...

Will post a pic later this evening.  Only 20 ono.

More elctronic and music items to come soon....  Wink

I'd have that if the dimensions are right - there are some awkward doors in my place

Hi mate, I've got piles of stuff that was in 5 for 10x12" 'mystery bags' from catapult years ago if you want them.  Various dodgy house / breaks / trance other drek etc.

I've also got some decent stuff thats just a bit too crackly and worn for club use if thats any good.  I'm not far from the Farm if you can collect, should have a box worth if not more  Two Thumbs

I've had LFO - You Have To Understand ( http://www.zero-inch.com/artist/LFO/track/You_Have_To_Understand/139678 ) on loop in my head for the last hour or so.

Wicked tune, the only problem is there's only one lyric and its repeated constantly, and I'm stuck on a problem in work that I can't get my head round  Cry

Actually the music industry should track down whoever came up with the idea of combining sub-par hiphop and sub-par trance, and banish them to a remote island
132  General / The Forum / Re: Should the music industry put digital first? on: July 21, 2011, 15:40:25
The music industry should read Retromania by Simon Reynolds then give themselves a sharp kick up their collective butts.
133  General / The Forum / Re: IDIOT BOSSES on: July 20, 2011, 15:53:04
I work in 2nd line application support and my boss makes me call back clients to confirm I have received their case, but I must not help them on the first call back in case they get used to getting help first time, which would be A Bad Thing apparently .

Instead I have to call, get them to pick severity on a scale of 1 to 5 and then hang up.  Then call them back in 10 mins to help if I'm not busy.  Mental.

Watched the Gruniad's live text feed of the Murdoch grilling while fixing a couple of SQL reports for a charity.

When I got home, ran 6.5 miles in 1h20 - not going to win the half marathon but hopefully not coming last.

Now working on a remix for a mancunian garage label til the early hours.  Quite the productive day, I've got a stinking cold too  Two Thumbs

Everything Everything were really good on the Thekla a few weeks back, I was pretty sure that they wouldn't be able to nail half of the tunes on their album live, but they pulled it off like it was nothing.  I'd prefer them to win over James Blake tbh.

The Africa Hi-Tech album should blatantly be on that list, and the Squires of Gothos one in a perfect world Wink

142  General / The Forum / Re: Beyonce at Glastonbury on: June 30, 2011, 19:37:10
You are allowing your views on sexism to skew what are facts.

She PART writes her songs... The older stuff she wrote more of, and there's a clear difference between the like of te aforementioned "Bugaboo" and her later output. I forget the later record where she spawned some alter ego she wrote a large amount, and you could tell it wa a return to her own writing. You can checker wiki etc. Smiley

As for me assuming there are men behind her success, it's not an assumption, it's a fact because that IS the system that is in place! The music industry is tilted toward men. It's a FACT.

She is someone who has been moulded (most notably by her father) for pop stardom since she was about 8 years old.

She's been a millionaire since her late teens most likely.

This isn't me allowing sexism to blind my judgement, merely dealing with the facts.

MJ is remembered as some pioneer of pop. Beyonce is the same. Both were fashioned from a young age and surrounded by an incredible team. Like I said, take it for what it is. A good performance by a good pop artist!

LOADS of singers co-write their songs and always have. Just because you've got a great voice and a lot of soul doesn't mean you necessarily can write whole ensemble pieces of music. I can't believe you don't know this already! James Brown is the Godfather of Soul but the JBs wrote the music.

 Script

I remember being shocked years ago after reading how loads of rappers have writing pools to write for them:  http://forums.projectcovo.com/showthread.php?t=432085

Would have loved to have seen Beyonce at Glastonbury but I know I would have probably been elsewhere if I had actually gone this year

143  General / The Forum / Re: Tactics for avoiding work on: June 30, 2011, 13:56:27
When I first moved to Bristol I somehow blagged a ridiculously overpaid IT contract for a few months in an office in Temple Meads.  The only work I had to do in the 2 whole months was blow dust out of a printer and ghost a few PC's.  The rest of the time I had a room to myself a company laptop, which I used almost exclusively for placing 'in play' bets on the 2006 World Cup and actually made a decent profit by the time I left.

IT contracting before the credit crunch was pretty much a licence to print cash for bare minimum effort from my experience  I am laughing, but I am also sad
