I'm still in Bristol, since 2008 I've got married but no kids so far.  Nowadays I'm working as a developer / SQL guy but I still do the odd bit of music production here and there.  The last time I went out to a club was a few months ago to Duvet in the Queens Head, which along with some D&B nights in Trinity are pretty grey hair friendly raves Bad Teeth

7  General / The Forum / Re: Soundwave Croatia - worth going? on: February 16, 2015, 15:21:59
I'd recommend it definitely.  I played there last year with the guys from Inflect and had a great time - its a beautiful part of the world and that time of the year you're almost guaranteed great weather. The music was on the gilles peterson / benji b side of things and the crowd were one of the most chilled I've seen at a festival.  Accomodation out there was dirt cheap for a 6 person chalet and eating in the town wan't particularly expensive.

One of the stages is a terrace on a beach so you end up with people just loafing in the sea having a dance.  The boat parties take you around hundreds of little islands in the adriatic.  The afterparty venue is this outdoor club called Barbarella's about 5 miles down the road and that is also a pretty wicked venue.  Was great catching the sunrise listening to Alexander Nut playing a load of latin disco.

11  General / The Exchange / Native Instruments FM8 / Massive licences (download only) on: April 14, 2014, 11:27:00
Both registration codes have been unregistered from my NI account and are ready to transfer.  On NI's site the price is 169 for each synth - I'm looking for 110 per synth or 200 for the pair  Two Thumbs

12  General / The Forum / Re: Chemical Records - closed down again? on: April 09, 2014, 12:50:47
Sad to see Chemical close down for good :/

In fact I broke a stylus yesterday and was planning on popping down there today on my lunch break so I'm glad I read this thread, saved a long and boring walk. Is there anywhere left in town where I can buy carts / styli or is it going to be mail order only for me now?
13  General / The Exchange / Arturia Minibrute + various pedals for sale on: February 03, 2014, 11:29:50
Hi all, I'm getting rid of some studio / pedalboard kit for relatively cheap:

MXR Distortion+ pedal
Distortion foot pedal, sounds wicked on acid synth lines - 50 ono

Morley Wah
Classic optical Wah pedal - 40 ono

14  General / The Exchange / Akai MPD32 & Novation Remote SL25 Compact MK1 on: January 08, 2014, 10:58:09

Due to recently buying an 'all in one' controller I'm selling my old ones to make room. Both are in good condition and work perfectly. The MPD32 is missing a couple of black 'knob covers' (see picture) - this is purely cosmetic and doesn't affect it in use. (Replacements are available on Ebay but I've never bothered)

The Novation controller is ideal for use with Ableton - its Automap functionality will automatically map to whichever device is in use on screen. The MPD32 is ideal for use with Drum Racks and has 3 banks of 8 sliders and 8 knobs for controlling a range of parameters.

Both bits of kit are bus powered so all you need is a laptop or PC/MAC and you've got a fully portable rig for creating music at home or on the move, or for playing live.

They are up on Gumtree for 230 for the pair but I'm happy to sell to a Hijacker for 215 ono Two Thumbs

I don't even understand what reddit is.

Its essentially thousands of forums all hosted together with an upvote/downvote system so in theory the best content rises to the top.

  • COMPUTER GAMES (Child Forum)

EDIT: this is by no means a complete list of the possible boards and any final list would probably benefit from debate/voting etc.

I remember back when this was an NCP carparks and cricket bats forum Oh my! That's so funny, but EEEEEEEEEEEK!

On a serious note though,  I used to use this place a lot more when it was full of people promoting nights or general banter.  Obviously Facebook and to some extent Headfirst have taken over as outlets for promotion and for general internet banter Reddit is pretty damn good if you edit what you see on the front page.  If we're actually seeing Hijack's death throes it might be worth setting up a 'Bristol Music Culture' 'subreddit' on Reddit (as r/Bristol is pretty lame at present), maybe in collaboration with Choke? Two Thumbs

26  General / The Exchange / Not for sale any more: Octatrack on: May 15, 2013, 14:16:14

I'm thinking about trading my Octatrack. Its an absolute beast of a live sampler, just don't think its getting used to its full potential on my tracks so its got to go. Probably the closest you can get to Ableton Live without a laptop.  Want to trade for an Access Virus TI / TI2 / TI Polar or similar  Two Thumbs

Stick to Playa D'en Bossa or the old town part of Ibiza Town imo.  We stayed in San Antonio last year as it was a fair bit cheaper and ended up getting the discobus down to PDB most days.  Much less of a 18-30 vibe down there tbh  Two Thumbs

...wheeling the rig into the middle of origin stage and playing hip hop to the psy trancers. Some loved it, others were mightily offended!

Classic Laugh

I didn't realise that was your rig!  I stumbled across Resinate belting out some tunes on that on Sunday I think. That drummer was pretty sick too,  I think he called himself the Dru Machine or DruMachine project or something like that.
41  General / The Forum / Re: Glade reviews...? on: June 20, 2012, 15:33:54
I had an amazing time. I was booked to play on the Meteor stage and it was supposed to open at 3pm Thursday; after a 5hr drive we arrived at 7pm to find it wasn't open yet, and that I was going to be playing the opening set as part of the Jump Music takeover.  When the stage opened it went from nobody to completely rammed in about 2 minutes flat, and everybody was going for it (as I think it was the first non psytrance stage to open lol).  That was so much fun and I could happily do that every weekend tbh Smiley

The highlights of the rest of the weekend for me were:
- The Mutant Bass takeover with Kanji Kinetic / Rrritalin / Esquire etc etc all going for it onstage for 4 hours.
- Catching Dillinja properly smashing it on the Overkill stage, never been that impressed when I've seen him before.
- Rashad & Spin / Headhunter / Kuedo all dropping some lively juke stuff over the weekend.
- Twisted soundsystem - didnt know I could stomach psytrance but that was good fun.
- The weather being surprisingly good all weekend, I was in the car doing a booze run to Kings Lynn when the only real torrential rain happened, lucky escape!
- The Meteor stage in general, such sick design and run by a lovely bunch.

..and so much more.. best festival I've been to in years imo  Slayer Slayer Slayer

43  General / The Forum / Re: Virgin Media are a massive bunch of cnuts. on: May 21, 2012, 12:40:43
I got 'upgraded' to Virgin Media' s '50mb/s' service and now my peak hour speeds are about 3mb/s and around 3am its somewhere near 30mb/s.

The 50mb/s service is so flaky I haven't been able to do my SubFM show for over a month without continually dropping the connection to their servers.  Virgin sent an engineer round a few weeks ago who supposedly fixed it as my connection was 'underpowered' then a week later its as bad as it ever was  BRRRAAAAP I'M SO ANGRY! Cry
