General / The Forum / Bass Kitchen UK presents Far Too Loud / TB2 / 5th July
|
on: June 10, 2013, 11:52:23
|
E-Tickets available here: http://goo.gl/PU8zeIRL Tickets available from Bristol Ticket Shop soonish. Far Too Loud, a.k.a. Oli Cash, has gained a reputation for hi-tech, dancefloor-destroying music that makes people throw their hands in the air and go crazy. Think high-energy, aggressive funk, big basslines, crazy edits, intricate production and you’ll know the sound. Since his first release, back in 2005, things have gone ever upward. Winning “Best Single” at the Breakspoll Awards in 2007 was a huge boost early on and later that year the huge FTL anthem “Play It Loud”, which saw a move from breakbeat into big, dirty electro-house grooves, received a massive response and remains a firm crowd-pleaser to this day. Subsequent chart-smashers including “Bring Back Boogie” and “Megaloud”, and remixes for the likes of Lily Allen and The Crystal Method confirmed Far Too Loud's place among the big guns of electro-house. 2012 saw Far Too Loud grow even more, with numerous Beatport top ten chart positions, remixes for artists such as Excision and Cyberpunkers and the release of his multi-genre Firestorm EP, which shook up the whole bass music scene. 2013 looks to be even bigger, as the “Faster Than Light” EP drops on June 3rd, featuring four brand new tracks bursting with his explosive trademark production and energy. Having toured the world over, Oli is well experienced in delivering unique sets packed with high energy, whether it’s 200 people in a sweaty underground club or 20,000 at an outdoor festival, you can be sure it’s going to go off! Not only that but we have a special guest in none other than DJ Theo Chamber Cox - one of the original Bass Kitchen Crew and our man in Thailand! Chamber has already played across the globe alongside many of the electronic music scenes biggest artists, such as Beardyman, Orbital, Benga, Dilated Peoples, Plump DJs, DJ Vadim, Ed Solo, Adam F, Donaeo, Stanton Warriors, Atomic Hooligan, The Freestylers, Benny Page, Lee Coombs, DJ Yoda, A Skillz, Freq Nasty, J Majik, Baobinga, Rennie Pilgrem, Jon Carter, General Midi, The Breakfastaz, Dub Pistols, Fabio & Grooverider and many more. His club-night, Bass Kitchen, is also spreading globally, having recently launched further international branches across Canada, Taiwan, China and around Europe, which will be booking some of the biggest DJs across the electronic music spectrum. But wait, there's more! In The Cage we have a fine selection of DJs from one of the Internet's best underground dance radio station: Brap.FM I think I might need a sit down. So join us on Friday 5th of July for promises to be a night of absolute awesomeness! ================= FRIDAY 5TH JULY ================= IN THE TUNNEL: FAR TOO LOUD SPECIAL GUEST DJ CHAMBER HI HAT LIVE, WOBBLING WOOKIE AND POOK IN THE CAGE: EMMA JAYNE, GUY THE REV, MOIF, 1UP, GUPPY SLIM AND MISHIMA ----------------------------------- DOORS OPEN AT 11PM £5 ADV, MORE ON THE DOOR ----------------------------------- Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/events/531444230253611/SPREAD THE WORD!

General / The Forum / Bass Kitchen UK Presents Utah Jazz - The Groove Therapy Tour - April - Timbuk2
|
on: March 05, 2013, 11:41:31
|
Spring is almost upon us and with it the promise of those long sought after evenings in the beer garden or the waft of the barbeque on the evening breeze. We're proper feeling it here at Bass Kitchen UK headquarters and to kick that Spring feeling into gear we've got something quite special for you in April. Touching down in Bristol is none other than the man like Utah Jazz and he's bringing the his newly launched Groove Therapy album with him. If Liquid V, Good Looking and Hospital Records is your bag then this is something you are not going to want to miss. But don't our word for it, check out these reviews: Mixmag Drum & Bass June 2012 - ALBUM OF THE MONTH Utah Jazz / Groove Therapy / Vintage Recordings
"One of the shining lights of the noughties' liquid-funk boom, Luke Wilson's much-envied library of rare soul samples continues to earn him legions of international fans and a unique perch in the d'n'b galaxy. True to his defiantly old-skool production ethic, album number three is awash with the dusky sax trills, lilting piano rolls and shuffling breaks that have become his smile-inducing signature - a trove of unvarnished rollers entirely devoid of mechanoid modern gloss or studio gimmicks. You'll also find sassy reggae-flecked funk ('The Warning' feat. David Boomah) and loping 150bpm breakbeat grooves ('Infinity'), but it's the tear-jerking brilliance of mournful piano gems like 'Loops for Days' that do it for us. Get those jazz-hands ready, people - summer has officially arrived. 9/10"
"Truly unique. Utah Jazz's burgeoning success is nothing short of remarkable. It's been two long years since the debut LP of the finest liquid funkster in the galaxy - and what a way to return..." (iDJ)
"Could Utah Jazz be the most underrated D&B producer out there? This unbelievable album certainly suggests so..." (DJ Mag)
"Experimental? Utah Jazz? Believe it – true to form, the world renowned party-rocking DJ is quite happy bucking all preconceptions as well as ignoring musical trends, and the results are his best work yet..." (iDJ)
"ALBUM OF THE WEEK. More emotion than a Bollywood film... Vintage has been painstakingly crafted, oozing finesse and attention to detail..." (The Metro)
"If the Drum & Bass scene’s upper reaches have a reputation for maintaining their rigid hierarchy with all the ruthless efficiency of a Stalinist accounting firm, then Utah Jazz is most certainly the kid who cracked the code..." (iDJ)
"X-amount of cast-iron jungle legends can’t be wrong – and they ain’t. When Utah Jazz waves his wand, D&B invariably swoons..." (iDJ Magazine)
"With his sublime debut album 'It's a Jazz Thing' out now on Liquid V, it's time to flip the script, and remind the pretenders who's really boss..." (DJ Mag)
"A remarkable composer... this is Drum & Bass royalty in the making..." (Knowledge)
"After 10 years of producing, ‘It's A Jazz Thing' is well worth the wait, showcasing Wilson's knack of excavating big riffs and hooks from 70's soul and funk, and melding them together in an uplifting dance floor soup. 4 out of 5..." (Mixmag)
"A dive into the inviting blue skies of summer, 'It's a Jazz Thing' takes the liquid funk template and submerges it in black-golden layers of '70s symphonic soul, equal parts Curtis Mayfield, Isaac Hayes, High Contrast and Calibre..." (DJ Mag)
"The most eagerly-anticipated debut album in years... Utah Jazz has got a rhythm, soul & vision all his own and the entire Drum & Bass world will soon be stepping to his beat..." (K-Mag)
"An original and unique listening experience. If you don’t know about Utah Jazz yet, what exactly is your excuse?!..." (ATM) We're a little bit excited to say the least. Alongside your usual BK residents we also have a selection of top notch DJs who will be bringing their own spectacular style and sound to Bristols longest running bass orientated night: Snowflake_F, Esque, Mossis Chesnut and Butcher are all in attendance and we're looking forward to seeing what they'll bring to the table. See you down the front! http://www.basskitchen.co.ukFacebook Event Page: http://www.facebook.com/events/225273644278422/https://www.facebook.com/utahjazzukhttp://www.discogs.com/Utah-Jazz-Groove-Therapy/release/3744020https://soundcloud.com/utah-jazz/groove-therapy-album-showcasehttp://www.utahjazz.co.uk/

General / The Exchange / Traktor Scratch Duo 2
|
on: November 19, 2012, 13:36:42
|
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/130800998150?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649We have here a used Traktor Scratch Duo 2 complete setup with 2 additional Traktor 2.1 Control Vinyls. Please be aware that one of the 2.1 Control Vinyl has a slight warp in it. I bought them new but left them on my 1210's near the window with the lid and it warped it a bit. You'll probably need to buy a new one. However, the original pre 2.1 Control Vinyls work perfectly. Also please be aware that there is no software included. However, if the winner has a PC then they should get in touch as that is a problem that we can very easily resolve. As you can see from the photos you get the Audio 6 and all the cables that come with.

General / The Forum / BassKitchen presents A.Skillz - Friday December 7th - TB2
|
on: November 04, 2012, 11:47:15
|
We've had some truly amazing DJs down to grace the decks at Timbuk2 and we're looking forward to inviting more of same next year. But we're not quite done yet. On December 7th we none other than the man like A.Skillz in attendance. There's not really much to say about how awesome this is going to be, if you know about A.Skillz then we're going to be going over old ground. But for those of you who need a refresher, here we go: "He has worked across the UK at FabricLive, Spectrum, Chew The Fat, Supercharged, The Boutique and Sugarbeat as well as gigs around the world at major events, festivals and music industry parties such as The Hit Factory (New York), WMC (Miami) and Field Day (Sydney). In 2003, A.Skillz released his debut album TrickaTechnology alongside Finger Lickin's Krafty Kuts. The album was a nod towards musical influences like De La Soul, James Brown and Jurassic 5, enlisting artists including Kurtis Blow, Real Elements and Ashley Slater. February 2004 saw A.Skillz and Krafty Kuts team up on the TrickaTechnology Tour with live MCs from the album playing shows all over the UK. The duo then played at Glastonbury Festival, Pacha (Ibiza) and a live session for Steve Lamacq on BBC Radio 1. In October 2004, A.Skillz then embarked on his first solo tour of Australia which saw him play to sell out crowds in all major capital cities, gaining new fans and respect from fellow DJs along the way. He followed this by extensive gigs in the UK and a busy studio schedule producing music for Channel 4 (Talk Back), Renault (TV advert) and Sony PlayStation (Gran Turismo 4). A.Skillz kicked off 2005 in January with a mini-mix for Annie Mac that was later voted best mini-mix of the year by Radio 1 listeners, beating industry heavyweights such as Basement Jaxx, Mylo and Scratch Perverts.[citation needed] He followed this with a series of remixes including The Fort Knox Five and a re-rub of his own track "Simple Things". Highlight gigs last year included 10:15 (San Francisco), Snow Bombing (Austria), Mystery Lands Festival (Amsterdam), Homelands (UK), and Live 8 After Show Party (London). A.Skillz was awarded with the title 'Best DJ' in February 2012 at the Breakspoll International Breakbeat Awards. The awards were hosted at Cable in London. A.Skillz also picked up the award for 'Best Free Track'." We've also got some of Bristol's finest back for more BK duty in Room 2 mixing it up with the BK residents: Esque, Trufflehunter, Paradigm and Ferryman. As usual the shenanigans commence at 11PM sharp. This will be a sell out night so you are STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to purchase your tickets in advance from Bristol Ticket Shop: http://www.bristolticketshop.co.uk/ or call them on 0117 929 9008 Scores on the doors are £7 in advance or £8 on the night. General / The Forum / Bass Kitchen presents Foamo. Friday 2nd November. TB2, Bristol.
|
on: October 10, 2012, 10:03:50
|
We're massively proud to be able to bring you the man like Foamo to Bass Kitchen in November. If big beats and equally as massive basslines are your thing then you will undoubtedly want to be there. "Foamo aka Kye Gibbon has already established himself as one of the best producers to come out of the UK in recent years. It’s not often that talent comes rising through the ranks fully formed, undiluted, and with as much potential as Foamo has done. Countless comparisons have been made between him and some of the very finest and he's gained the support of DJs including Diplo, Armand Van Helden and Rob Da Bank. Not bad for a boy from High Wycombe. Known not only for the depth and quality of his engineering skills (never mind the huge basslines!) but also as a respected DJ, 2009 has seen him tour America and Australia, play to festival-goers across the globe and earn an exclusive residency at Chew the Fat! in the UK and at Space in Ibiza. One of the next generation of dance music's elite Kye was raised on a healthy diet of drum & bass, grime and garage, but it was through listening to Kissy Sell Out on Radio One that he was introduced to the more house-orientated sound that gave rise to his bass heavy 4/4 productions. After the success of his first single 'Moving It Over Here' gained him international exposure his recent productions, including some huge La Roux bootlegs, remixes for Diplo & Laidback Luke and Dub Pistols, and 'It's Going Down', his ridiculously heavy collaboration with Lee Mortimer, have been supported by everyone from Annie Mac to DJ Zinc." - Resident Advisor Also gracing us with their behemoth like presence will be none other than the long running bass driven Internet radio station, Brap.FM. Representing Brap in Room 2 will be POoK, Kez n Becks, 1UP and Ursamal. It has been decreed up and down the land that there ain't no party like a Brap.FM party - it's safe to say that you're in for a bit of a treat. And as usual the Bass Kitchen crew will be there to help you along the way. Expect nothing short of massive tunes from DJ Fly, HiHat, JDO, P.O.D.G.E, Wobbling Wookie and Moif. Tickets are £5 in advance from Bristol Ticket Office and £6 on the door. Get down early to avoid disappointment. Friendface Event: http://www.facebook.com/events/463531300357948/

I'm doing a 1600 or less a day calorie intake thing. Planning to take up some form of regular exercise this week. Horfield Leisure Centre does a monthly swim only membership for £25 a month and I've got to get some road tyres for my MTB which I'll be using whilst I save up for a road bike.
Eating loads of salads, protein type things and cutting out as much sugar as possible. Going well so far. Even this weekends See No Evil adventures didn't tip me over the top too much.

Realised I'm a sedimentary fatso a couple of days ago. I work in IT, sit down all day and do pretty much the same when I get home. I'm two stone overweight and bordering on obese. So I'm making moves to shift some excess.
It's pretty simple really, be more active and eat less shit. I'm buying a road bike next week and am watching what I eat. The plan is to drop 2lbs a week for 3 months. It's interesting to take notice of what's in food, for example a pint of cider is 250 kcal on average. I thought it would be more.
