So I've realised that I have finally given up on Drum & Bass.. Just doesn't do it for me anymore, I'm sure there is some good stuff out there, but I don't have the energy or motivation to search for it anymore!

Anyway, I've decided to do a bunch of mixes collecting a load of my favourite tunes from over the years, the first one turned out pretty well so thought I would share it with you lovely people. Recorded live so not perfect and the aim is just to get people jumping around rather than being cool or impress anyone with my smoooooth mixing, hopefully that comes across.. Enjoy! If people seem to be feeling this then I will share the rest of the mixes as I do them, the next one planned is an all Dillinja mix from when he was the man!

I really dont get tho why people think this is so wierd...

If you go faster than the speed of sound, it has to catch up with "you", if you go faster than the speed of light, therefore I presume it will have to catch up with you.. Why should light be a limiting factor in the universe, sounds completely retarded if it is to me...

I would recommend reading this:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Why-Does-mc2-Brian-Cox/dp/0306819112/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1316855115&sr=1-1

My understanding is that there is nothing special about light, it's just that there is a universal speed limit and light (along with other electromagnetic waves) travels at that speed. The one that always messes with me is that no matter how fast you travel, light moves at the same speed relative to you. That is some wierd stuff..

Does this potentially mean time travel?

I've never seen that, but that sounds worth a look. Doesn't look like there is a DVD, but there was an accompanying book and CD I've found on the net. There appears to be someone offering a stream or download, but I can't check these at work.

Looks like you can watch at least some of it on YouTube: http://youtu.be/LhrSlOa2bsA

Or I think I have it on DVD recorded from telly somewhere, could probably manage to make a copy if any one really wants it!

Smashed This is all getting confusing now!  Laugh

The date for the Die set was a guess from the tunes on there (mainly Die dropping Fluid/Hard Noize, whichever you want to call it, and Jakes not knowing it.) So 98 is just as likely!

As for the Mutiny pack, I haven't listened to it all for a very very long time, but I was sure Hype was on there.. Oh well, will carry on getting it all ripped and uploaded by the end of the week hopefully!  Two Thumbs This is all really making me want to put an old skool DnB night on, just need to work out where the funds are gonna come from!

Hmmm.. I just downloaded it again no problem.. If you try again and still have probs let me know and will re-up! Gonna try and rip all my old Ruffneck Ting tapes as well...

Oh and if anyone can ID the tune at about 5:33 on side 1 of the Die mix I will be forever grateful!

Right...

As there are a couple of mixes through this thread and I want to add more I thought I would collect them all up here now!

The original Die tape:

Side 1: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=42FHWLP7
Side 2: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=LVLRD3DX

The Mutiny Tapes:

Part 1: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ARMN4LVN
Part 2: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=C0H2D2T9

A Bukem Studio mix that I know very little about, I was given this years ago and it is one of my all time faves, no idea what any of the tracks are but it is an amazing mix! If anyone knows any of the details of this tape I would be interested to hear.

More tapes soon come... Gonna get all my Ruffneck Ting tape packs up... Slayer

Love

We had a great time as well and it was a pleasure to play - also happy to say all these recordings were done on a 4-track recorder with a stereo microphone which means all the recordings have the sound of the dancefloor on top of the music. It almost feels like you are there! Bad Teeth
I have been thinking about this for recording, makes a live set make sense if there is crowd noise.....

Definitely, the best set recording include the crowd, stuff like Jeff Mills Live at the Liquid Rooms wouldn't be the same without it!

Fair play for putting all these recordings up, I don't get out clubbing much anymore but it's great to be able to hear the sets from nights I couldn't go to..  Two Thumbs

Ha came across this kind of thing in hostels when travelling round S. America a few years back... Mainly from people who are travelling but all they do is stay in hostels all the time and never seem to go out (mainly cause they can't afford to, as they are trying to scrape by on 50p a day so they don't have to go home...), what's the point?? Could be in the YMCA in Bristol and would be exactly the same as being in a hostel in Montevideo!  Doh!

44  General / The Forum / Re: Raves for Old People on: October 20, 2010, 17:04:23
I have found that techno nights tend to get an older crowd, and I would also think that proper old skool nights would also attract the older crowd, other than that I think you're generally stuck with the kids, mostly cause staying out till 4am off your tits on drugs is more of a younger persons thing in general (and yes that is a big generalisation I know!).

Myself and the missus went to Thekla on a Friday night a couple of years back and we were clearly the oldest people in there by a good 4-5 years (and we were only 29 at the time!), which was a bit wierd.. Although it was useful for getting drinks cause none of the kids seemed to have any idea how to get served at the bar, so I could just walk through the crowds who were trying to get enough change together for a can of red stripe, and get served within 10 seconds..   Laugh Two Thumbs
45  General / The Forum / Re: RIP Benoit Mandelbrot on: October 18, 2010, 17:58:16
He devised the mathematical forumulae and 'sets' of which the patterns used for visualisations are based on.

No, I don't think he did.  He was an important mathematician and his life deserves celebrating, but not for something that he didn't do.  He was important in popularising these types of mathematical objects and in applying them to various mathematical problems, but I think the basic formulas were known before his work.  For example, Wikipedia mentions Julia and Fatou, which are two names that I associated with this stuff.  I guess the development of visualisations is actually due to various computer programmers, though a quick google search doesn't bring up anything particularly informative on this.

If I remember correctly he actually discovered the generalised version of the equations which was later shown to contain all possible Julia sets? I read the book 'Chaos' by James Gleick over the summer but can't remember all the details. He probably wasn't that important in the study of Chaos but was important for popularising the 'fractal' pictures, I think.... Never thought I would see the death of a mathematician being noted on Hijack, doubt it will happen when Andrew Wiles pegs it!

OK, if that's true then he probably did make an important contribution to the development of visualisations, and I was being unnecessarily argumentative.  I tried internet searches though, and couldn't find anything like this credited to him.  I have read that James Gleick book but it was years ago.

I think it was this book: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fractal-Geometry-Nature-Benoit-Mandelbrot/dp/0716711869 that was his key contribution to the whole visualisation thing. Oh and you are absolutely right Zenzic that the things like that are fascinating (to the right mind at least!), fractional geometry still makes my head go a bit  Smashed but it's all stuff that I want to learn so spurs me on in my studying!
