5  General / The Forum / Re: Any mechanic's out there? my van is over heating on: March 13, 2009, 00:07:39

I have noticed oil in the water tank, not a lot but easily seen. I don't think there are any splits in the expansion tank (do you mean the tank i pure water into?) and the cap is fine

I'll have a look for white powder tomorrow and for egg white...well...i'll give it a go

Well oil in the water could be a sign of head gasket troubles... Or could be water and oil mixing if the intercooler is leaking, and works that way.

What age is it?  Is it worth replacing the head gasket, or just sourcing a recon engine.  I imagine there will be LDV breakers out there being a bit more specialist if you get my meaning.   Have you boiled the old girl over, causing the head to warp, thus ruining the gasket?

Try looking for an LDV owners club on the net?, see if they have a forum  Two Thumbs
6  General / The Forum / Re: Any mechanic's out there? my van is over heating on: March 12, 2009, 23:31:34
Is there water in the oil, or vice versa?

Any splits in the expansion tank, or is the cap faulty so letting water out under pressure?  Look for traces of white crusty powder around the cooling system, could source the leak.  You can try some of that fluid mentioned above as this may fix any small holes in the system, my mate swears egg white sorted his leak  Smashed

31  General / The Forum / Re: Las Vegas on: February 01, 2009, 01:46:08
I stayed at Ceasars and The Venetian and would highly reccomend both.  Two Thumbs

There is an Irish bar/casino opposite The Bellagio which is fairly cheap and good fun for geting drunk playing beer pong.  If you're with your lady take her for a gondolla ride in (yes inside!!) the Venetian, that place is fucking crazy.   Go and watch a show in the old town, we saw a Rat Pack (Sinatra, Sammy Davis etc not the rave cru) tribute which was fun.  If you hire a car the Hoover Dam is not far out of Vegas so take a look at that, then you can tick Arizona off the states you have been too.   Take shit loads of drugs on the road trip from LA to Vegas in a Fear an Loathing stylee.  The MGM grand has Lions at certain times of the year... if your into wild animals being stuck in a casino  Smashed  Rainforest cafe in the MGM.  Oh the dice lollipops Lil Wayne has in his videos can be bought in Vegas.  Get yourself plenty of packs of second hand genuine plying cards from the stores (with the various casino motifs on the back, Hooters FTW), cool to have around for drinking games and give as gifts.  The buffets are well worth the money if you have a big appetite, the Bellagios was really good.  Ceasars Palace had a massive new construction site next to it which put a downer on chilling by the pool but this may be nearly finished by the time you are out there, they dont check room keys either so some French birds we met could hang at the pool with us.

Book your casin/hotel online as it is way cheaper than with an agent and when you get there they offer cheap upgrades, we stayed on the 2nd to top floor of The Venetian for an extra $100 i think and the room was sweet.  And blag them for extra robes sayimng the maid didnt leave any, then you can get yourself sweet embroidered robes for nothing.

If you are playing the slots the free drinks will keep coming, and tip well so the keep on coming

Proof, if ever it were needed, that this is going to be far worse than the recession of the early 90's.

But was the boom far bigger this time around?  Bigger you are harder you fall and all that?

I have a feeling that the sharpest fall has happened and the rate of fall will tail off now until the end of 09

A post from B3ta's "credit crunch" QOTW:

Quote
i was asked in december which of my team i should consider for the chop in january - 'should the worst happen'

i said to my boss well that's a tough one but with some sadness made my recommendations. i was prudent enough to seek his advice on this..

"i have to ask (fat cunt boss) - i've been here 6 months now (Dubai) and i'm just about to ship my family and all my worldly possessions out here - i have another family poised to rent my property back home - should i still be going ahead with this?"

(reassuring voice) "of course spimf we still need a core management staff to run the business"

i was told this morning the final decision on my redundancy will be in "a week or two" from then i have 1 month to find a job (there are none, Dubai is FUCKED, 2000 cars have been dumped at the airport in the last two months) then after 1 month i lose my visa have to fund my trip home, my family's trip. oh and try and work out what the fuck to do about my belongings that are on a boat off west africa currently.

if i miss one payment for the new car i bought i go to jail. if i don't pay my credit card bills - i go to jail.

my wife is in bits

i'm pretty scared to be honest - i sold our cars - let my home, put all my possessions on a boat for these cunts - the owner is a multi millionaire but would rather dump me and my family in the desert than loose a few quid over a few months.

he has a history of this sort of behavior

that's why hes rich i guess

Well...part of me says serves you right but i do feel sorry for him..a bit anyway

Anyone else enjoying the "thrill of the chase" at the moment in the business world?  I'm absolutely fucking loving being quick to reply to enquirys, measuring up jobs, puting in fair and reasonable prices and geting in the work.  Where as 12 months ago the phone was red hot and the work was there to take or leave depending on if we could fit it in.

I hope all the cowboys fall by the wayside leaving the veterans in the market to keep on  Two Thumbs

Depends how old the battery is, the lead wafers in them start to fall apart after a few years.  Also is it sealed or can you top it up?, unscrew the plugs on top and check the lead is covered, dunno how much, cm or so maybe .  If it is low top it up with de-ionized water  NERD ALERT!
