MPD26/32 with Ableton or Logic, with the groove templates from the old mpd's loaded up should render the same experience minus the price tag surely? I know the older machines have a unique and perhaps coloured sound from the hardware i/o's and alike. So if that's your aim then maybe it is the way to go.

I have the MPD24 and fulfils my pad tapping needs.

the controllers also send the midi clock out so u can get the swing ect from there..
if u dont want to look at the computer go for the mpc,i found in my experience laptops and controller is better if u want to move about with it/do shows ect,if your keeping it at home itll be fine though..

yes! i grew up with joey and matt that wrote/perform the show..even though i know them really well i was still blown away by it (that sounds cheesy but u know what i mean,the style of humour is well familiar to me)...the bit with the record sleeves! incredible.
