Watershed might be a possible lunch location, I think. It's always a nice place!

Dinner at the Pump House, that could work alright... been there only once on a boat trip (for beers naturally) but it did look good.

Yeah the Pump House changed hands about a year ago and they do really good food now.

Sunday lunch i'd definitely take a short drive to Chew Magna for The Pony And Trap. Amazing little country pub with nice garden and a truly fantastic roast. You need to book though they get very busy...

Can't recommend this place highly enough. Its GURT

16  General / The Forum / Re: Tinnitus! on: November 18, 2010, 10:45:13
There is actually a cure for Tinnitus if you get it early enough...

They don't do it on the NHS in this country though, so you would have to go private which will cost a pretty penny.

can u ellaboarate? i've never heard of a cure. only the TRT training and various other counselling / coping methods.

17  General / The Forum / Re: Tinnitus! on: November 18, 2010, 10:31:03
I've had it for years not much you can do about it really, it'll become less noticeable with time and buy some earplugs to prevent it getting any worse. Mine always seems worse in really quiet places like when I'm on bed trying to go to sleep but you've just got to try to not focus on it. Not much help really, sorry!

Same here. I've got used to living with it now. Use earplugs in clubs and stuff but only to prevent further damaging

Just seen Mulder's post and I've been thinking about doing this for some time. it doesn't have to be white noise though, just any consistent sound such as waves, wind, all sorts. But not something that your brain woudl process semantic meaning from whilst you were sleeping, such as the radio, tv etc.

some info and links to TRT products if interested - http://www.rnid.org.uk/information_resources/tinnitus/what-can-i-do-about-it/products-help-tinnitus/

I think it can take 6 - 9 months of regular useage before you'd notice and signs of improvement. this is what initially put me off. It would be a long slow process

19  Food for your Ears / The Desk / Re: Recording an External Synth into Logic on: November 11, 2010, 11:22:16
you can intergrate hardware into logic so that it acts like a software instrument so a bit differnt to recording vocals ect.

Oh really? How do you do this. I just set up 2 tracks. 1 track with the midi notes and a 2nd track as an audio channel with the synth as an input on that channel?

Is there a better way of doing it?

is there a readme doc or tutorial about this?! Smiley

"Rubber dinghy rapids brother, Rubber dinghy rapids"  from Four Lions

and on a more serious note, been reading and really enjoying "How To Win Friends And Influence People"... just read a chapter about the best arguements are the ones avoided

"If you argue and rankle and contradict, you may achieve a victory sometimes; but it will be an empty victory because you will never get your opponents good will" (Ben Franklin)

This book is gold. don't underestimate how good it is. and don't be put off by the title

What's the security of the spaces like?

I would love to set up out of my bedroom. Not sure i can afford that much though.

Out of interest what do the smaller spaces go for? I know they full but things change!

hey josh
security is really good. all doors are locked plus padlocked main gate. smaller studios vary in size but most are £160 - £200 a month

30  General / The Exchange / Large Studio available for hire... any takers? on: October 08, 2010, 11:08:02
HI there

We recently set up our studio in a great space off cheltenham road. There are 10 studios there a mixture of artists, photographers, musicians etc

There is still the largest space available to rent. High ceilings, work benches, loads of space. Its £100 a week but could easily be shared between 2 or 3 artists?

Anyone keen?

This shows the style of studios. But the studio in question is a lot bigger! Go see it and you'll be bowled over

PM me if intersted

and his words about the daily mail attacking the BBC are spot on. even paxman doesn't deny it.

what exactly is the problem here?you've been busy working on other creative stuff.

so what if the last track was finished in January? does it really matter?

not really i suppose. i've def been far from inactive... but i do want to make more of my own tunes. and i need to make time for it

39  General / The Forum / Re: Arghh Having Musical crisis. if i write it down maybe it'll kick start something on: September 24, 2010, 15:20:11
sample stuff! or collect sounds somehow.

Script Yes, spending some time collecting drums or just twatting around on a synth can be good, you can use the sounds later or find yourself starting something inspirational.

yeah i need to do this for collecting ideas. Mike Monday writes some great stuff in his blog, in particular he talks about making an audio sketchpad. A folder that is always in use where ideas, samples, new sounds and stuff just get plopped in for future reference. i gonna start doing this for sure

here's his post if you're interested

its not even that i'm uninspired... i've been busy doing drum machine at glasto, soundtracks to film, and more recently starting our own company which take a huge amount of time and mental enegry.

but still, its weird to see the last track i finished was so long ago!!

i wish i didn't spend all my free time drinking and having fun with friends... its too easy   Tongue

50  General / The Forum / If someone said Indie/Electro. who springs to mind? and whats you favourite toon on: September 17, 2010, 14:27:36
weird question i know... and totally open to your own interpretation. as years go by the lines between genres get more and more blurred but the last decade was definitely one where guitar and drum machine converged.

now, i was recently asked to write a track for someone. They wanted it to sound indie/electro (their words). and i have to say the look on my face was flummuxed. for me indie/electro would be DFA or summin but i've got a feelin thats not what they has in mind

but what does it mean to you, whats your favourite tracks/artists?
